I had tried restarting the PC earlier.  I just now tried two different syntehsizers, but no difference.

Re: Typing Echo Change with 2018.1

Hi,

Hmmm, how about using a different speech synthesizer or restarting your computer?

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi,

Does running NVDA in “safe mode” aka add-ons disabled help?

Yes! I noticed it here so I decided to go back to older version and use my flash drive. Not specifically  for the mobile facebook but as well with typing to notepad that some kinda delay or what. I even tried to adjust the keyboard settings but got the same results. I think I will be working for now and use 2017.4 version.

I upgraded to the latest release of NVDA today and right away I noticed a change that is, well, quite annoying to me.

I am a fast typist who prefers to have typed characters repeated.  Since upgrading NVDA today, the letters I type are read back to me extremely slowly, where as previously, i was hearing the key I typed instantly.

Similarly, in a web browser when I use NVDA+F7 to jump to a link, there is also a delay.  For example, if I know the link I want is "Search", I could hit the S and NVDA would immediately say "Search" and I could then hit enter.  Now, NVDA says "S", there is a delay, then it says "Search".  Is this a new feature that has a setting I can't find to change it, a bug, or am I the only person noticing this?

Voice settings spontaneously resetting to eSpeak

Howard <howard.lee.harkness@...>

I have been using N V D A for several years on behalf of a blind lady in Texas, who I now support remotely.

Recently, N V D A has been spontaneously returning to an eSpeak voice instead of her preference, which is the Microsoft Zira voice for the M S A P I 5. I have checked the "save settings on exit" but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

She has a slight hearing deficit that makes it more difficult to understand the "mechanical man" (her term), and has had to have me set it back to Zira several times in the last few weeks.

Is there a command sequence that I can put into a startup file that can force the choice of synth and voice?

Re: NVDA randumly crashing?

Don H

I am running NVDA on a Win 10 64 bit laptop and with the last two or three versions of NVDA including 2018-1 I get NVDA crashing randomly when I hit the windows key to open the start menu. I simply restart NVDA and everything seems fine again until the next random crash.

Re: NVDA randumly crashing?

Gene

Here are some points that may stimulate discussion and help you find the problem.

I doubt this is caused by an add on.  However, you can check by running NVDA with all add ons disabled.  I've almost never done this and I don't remember how but someone else should know. If no crashes occur, then you can start checking add ons.  If the crashing continues, then add ons are ruled out.

The log may tell you why the program is crashing.  I haven't done enough with the log to advise you further.  Also, I don't know if it makes sense to send the log or to try running without add ons first.

And finally, what synthesizer are you using.  It may be the synthesizer that is crashing or the synthesizer that is causing NVDA to crash.

I don't know which link you are referring to.  The link I sent is to a full version, not a stub.  The program hasn't been available from Microsoft for some time.  Also, if all they have is a stub, they should take the opportunity to download the full version from the link I or someone else provides and back it up.  You may need the full installer at some point if the program needs to be reinstalled.

Re: bleeps when using explorer file list

Gene

I don't know what Windows 7 does to slow this down.  I don't see what indexing would have to do with it and, as I recall, it is off on my Windows 7 machine, which is slower when I look down a file list than XP.  The work around is to hold the Control key down while moving.  You won't be selecting anything and if a file is selected when you start to move, it will still be selected.  Once you get to a file you want to work with, release control, up and down arrow once so you return to the file you want to work with.  It is now the only selected file.

Well if you have a large file folder list, of audio files mainly not always large programs but it needs loading, mixed content really just makes your system work to load so you need to wait till its loaded.

Re: Alternatives to wordpress.com?

To be honest after using livejournal for ages and ages and all the spyware and spam from it even though they deny this, wordpress is what I am pushing, its easy to install, update and configure.

Its easy to make a blog on wordpress.com to.

There are only 2 disadvantages right now to wordpress.

They want you to buy their stuff so unless you set it you will be buying their stuff weather you want to or not which is easy to do but you need to scroll to the end of a list of buttons.

And once done, their wordpress.com site once you login just isn't really that accessible, quite cluttered, I use the mobile site to handle what I need.

I have 1 main blog, I have another but now sonnar does its news, I will let them do it, since they rarely sent me updates and if they can do a better job than me and they seem to be doing so, they can have their position back.

I've tried weebly and wix with NVDA and squarespace too. None of them work well because every site has unlabeled buttons and even frames that NVDA says has nothing in them, when there is visually. This wix and otherwise's fault for not making their back end accessible. To date, Droopal, wordpress... both dot org and dot com, and dreamwith are the only ones who make their back ends accessible. Oh. Blogger too, but blogger has not had an update in years.

Re: bleeps when using explorer file list

Well if you have a large file folder list, of audio files mainly not always large programs but it needs loading, mixed content really just makes your system work to load so you need to wait till its loaded.

Hi folks. i notice in windows 7 and probably 10, when you are in a file list in explorer, nvda bleeps like a progress bar, and seems to slug the movement of the selected files. I suspect tis is the windows indexer is it with a progress bar which increments to do the next page of files when you scroll etc. Can this be turned off and if so would it speed up the file selected that nvda sees as against what the sighted see?
These are often out of sync resulting in file copies etc being incorrect.

Hi all. Finally, I was able to access my account that machine. I had to go to my Settings account, from that Gmail website and check the box that says something like allow other applications less secure to access my email. Sorry if I can’t translate the right message but my email account is in Spanish.
Even though Gmail states that doing that procedure was a little risky because other applications can access your account, that’s the only way I can keep using Thunderbird in my 30 to beat machine. The strange thing is that on my other machine with Windows 64-bit, is not necessary to do so

So what we really need to know then is why gmail won't allow two machines running tbird to access the account?

Is it possible in tbird to save account details and reload them exactly the same on the other machine. If that works and both machines are on your home network and not behind some oddball firewall or something, that should work. I have for example got two machines using Outlook Express on the same gmail account accessing via pop3 with no problems at all.

Hi all.

First, thanks for all your responces.

What actually happens with my gmail account and thunderbird in my 32 bit
machine, is that I can not even sign in to my account. When I compleet
the whole proces of configuring my account, it redirect me to the gmail
page where I should sign in and authorise thunderbird as my Email
client, but when I heat enter in the website where it says continue
button, nothing happens. The website says something like: give your
gmail credentials and sign in to your gmail account to authorise
thunderbird.

On the other hand, when I read my gmail imbox from my iPhone I get a
message that says something like: revew this sign in that was locked for
your own safety. So, what I asume is that gMaile is not letting
thunderbird to acces my account, don't know why, because as I sayd, in
my windows 7 64 machine is still possible.

What are your suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

You can find the version with alt h, then type a. If the version

But I don't know why the program doesn't connect. What happens when
you try to send and receive messages? Do you get error messages?
What do they say? If the program works on one machine, it should work
on the other machine. there may be something wrong with your
installation or there may be some other problem. You could try other
programs but it might first be best to try to see if we can solve the
problems you are having with this program. I'm not sure how to go
about that. Those with the program may have suggestions.

Gene

I don't know which link you are referring to.  The link I sent is to a full version, not a stub.  The program hasn't been available from Microsoft for some time.  Also, if all they have is a stub, they should take the opportunity to download the full version from the link I or someone else provides and back it up.  You may need the full installer at some point if the program needs to be reinstalled.

Well if it means anything to anyone, and without installing it we get the
below details. However bit worried about the web suffix as this implies it
may well be a stub loader and the data is no longer on line. If I had a look
around I might find an old version on an xp machine though.
