Re: Focused mode

Jonathan COHN

I am not sure I understand. What is the behavior you are expecting. What it sounds like to me, is that you are enabling sleep mode which essentially disables all NVDA interactions for that application unless I am completely mistaken. But you are expecting that browse mode should still work while NVDA is sleeping. Are you perhaps wanting to turn off voice output but continue working with Braille Or perhaps you are doing accessibility testing in which case you should listen to the great tutorial DeQueue created on using NVDA to test accessibility with NVDA that is available on YouTube.
Best Wishes,

Jonathan

Re: Firefox seems slower?

its because javascript is activate by default.
i have this problem in any version of firefox and any version of nvda
that i tested until now!
i did not work with chrome, but activating javascript and refresh and
redirect of pages, also dynamic pages, make me very confused and sad.

Does anyone find that firefox is really slow?

I'm using nvda 2018.1.

As for firefox, I've tried all of the beta/ nightly channels, but chrome,

seems to run alot faster.

Microsoft have taken all the live mail archives down as far as I can tell. There may well be people here with the archive, but in later versions they were only tub loaders and these had the word web in their file names. these can no longer be used since Microsoft have removed the files they look for.

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Niche old days there was a routine in nvda to allow you to not let it initialise if xp was detected, is that still present in the code, if so then maybe just adding the line and making the windows version be the current one to make it work, admittedly that would create serious issues in other applications.
Incidentally does this function work in portable versions, if not then maybe if it does not crash on a portable version point made?

OK, some research makes me think that when I use the keyboard shortcut to change from Mailbox view to Calendar View in Outlook that the crash might be related to UIA not being handled correctly. Is there a way I could disable UIA for my copy of NVDA either in intirety or for Outlook just to execute this command without working with the NVDA core? I

So, could I write a Outlook addon that disables UIA when in the SuperGrid or in the INI files?

Thanks!

Hi All,
I came across a great Windows keyboard command on-line...
This will be useful for working with music files, like making a playlist, but sometimes I hate those browse boxes when it does not open into the folder where the file is, and you have to back out and find the folder where you are wanting to open or attach a file.
So when you have the folder open and you are on top of the file, do the following:
Shift + applications key
Then press the letter A.
This will put the entire path and file name into the clipboard, ready for pasting into that browse field.
This works with or without a screenreader.

Sure. Just put two backslashes.

dictionary and substituting back slash for the proper pronunciation,
NVDA locked up. I had to run Narrator and remove the item from speech

Has anyone else noticed this issue and if so, is there a solution?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Other tool for solving the Verification Image

Actually most sites use something preecapture or freecapture, and thats by google.

99..99999% of the time its accessible to the point it works most of the time.

The only time thats a problem is if a site used the older garbeled audio, or simply has no audio alternitive at all.

Wordpress alert

Hi.

I usually don't post as a tester of the wordpress team, however, this is an important message about wordpress accessibility.

As you may or may not know wordpress is making a new engine called gutenberg.

The thing is that its still not accessible even after a lot of testing and attempts to make it accessible.

So its possible that wordpress may become inaccessible in v5 Messages from the devs to access team have been good so far, and final testing for access was underway, I found it really bad though and so did the access team leader.

Currently we have been assured that nothing will be done till it works, but each test has gotten worse and worse navigation well its no good.

Anyway, while we can't change wordpress.com for those with wordpress there is a plugin called classic editor which should be installed to stop gutenberg being run, I mean we will give them the benefit of the doubt, but reguardless I am installing the classic editor on the blogs I admin, at least we are seeing these on the test group, even though they are in a word awefull.

Please post this at other lists you may want to or that would be good for this.

Re: constant refreshing of www.cordcuttersnews.com

hi.
thanks so much for reporting this issue!
i have this problem even using firefox 51 or 52 and previous one!
i joined in quora website to answer questions about islam.
yesterday, i spent more than ten hours on that site.
when i opened the site, it had near 3000 characters,
after many hours, the characters increased to 89000 characters and
after ten hours, firefox became unresponsive!
after ten minutes, nvda becomes very slow, even reports line and words
after some seconds and when increasing using of ram and cpu, because
of redirect or refresh of page, it even announces after 20 seconds!
previously, i deactivated javascript and could signIn my account and
answer questions.
but in these month, even signIn, following questions and answering
them are all impossible without enabling javascript!
i asked someone to test for me and replied: we can use quora website
without javascript!
i removed my firefox completely and reinstalled again, but the problem persists!
can someone please help me in this regard?
with this problem, using quora is extremely difficult with nvda.
thanks for any help and God bless you all!

This appears to be an example of what I discussed when firefox 57 came out.
the accessibility feature was removed that caused Firefox to warn when a
page wanted to refresh or redirect to another page. thee user could approve
or not do anything and the refresh or redirection wouldn't occur.

At the time, I said that those interested should send messages to those
working on accessibility of Firefox. I have no idea if anyone did. there
was an almost complete absence of comments concerning my message. This was
a major regression regarding accessibility.

Aside from that, if what I think is happening is happening, you may have to
use a program like noscript or turn JAVA script support off before going to
the page. In general, refreshes can be stopped by not allowing scripts to
run. I'm not sure if the page is refreshing or if a region on the page is
refreshing. It might well not be necessary to do anything if the feature I
discussed were still available and on. I may see what happens when I use
the page with the feature off and then on. Others, of course, may want to
do so as well.
