hi
the following might help. There is a next snap shot that is
meant to fix it but not sure if it is totally finished for the
tool.
the snap shot was created last night and can be found at
https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/snapshots/
You can jump down by headings to where the next snap shots are
and there is a download link.
But if it is the same bug i have seen you will not be able to
use your browser to get it. may be a sighted friend can grab it
for you?
I am just downloading it now and will also drop box it for you
if you can not get it that way. It can be gotten from https://www.dropbox.com/s/a4nazm0q8te5ivg/nvda_snapshot_next-14952%2Cdd1cbe50.exe?dl=0
If you do the following in the email to get it you should get
it down. Locate the second link which is the drop box link with
the letter k for link in the email. Then you will need to use
the applications key on the link then arrow down to save link i
think it is then press the enter key. It will ask you to save it
some where save it some where easy to find like the desk top.
If you can not use nvda you might have to use narrator to
locate the link and do the same.
When the file is on the desk top or where ever you put it
locate the next snapshot file then press the enter key on it. It
should start up with the musical sound. there will be the
documentation screen tab to the check box and agree to it. It
should not have to be installed. Tab again then use the nvda key
+ letter N to get into the nvda preferences then arrow down to
tools a sub menu will come off it then locate the comms fixing
tool I forget what it is called. You will know it when you come
across it. Press the enter key on it it will then come up with a
message likeit had to do some thing to the registery i can not
remember the wording tab to the yes button then press the enter
key on it.
Sorry i can not help you after that. I am thinking it should
fix the problems you might have to do a reboot but not sure as i
have not used the tool which is actually a snap shot.
I will also put in the other way from off my website below.
It has to be followed to a T
Troubleshooting - NVDA says “unknown” or “pane” in all of your
browsers, Mozilla Thunderbird email client and other places
If for some reason you have problems with NVDA saying “unknown”
or “pane” check for the following symptoms:
•
In all of your browsers, or the Mozilla Thunderbird email
client, no matter what you do, you still hear “unknown” or
“pane”.
•
In the browser, email client and other menus you notice you
cannot get into your menus, or you are unable to use the quick
navigation keys
•
When you have been told the page is loaded and notice strange
behaviour
•
Mozilla Thunderbird saying unknown while you try to navigate it
•
Your applications key does not work with it being spoken out and
other strange behaviour in Windows
•
The running applications icons are not being spoken out
It might be a good idea to do the following:
Please note: If you are hearing “unknown” or “pane” (as
discussed above) NVDA might seem like it is still working
properly but it may not be completely in Windows and other
programmes.
You could try the following solution which will allow you to
re-register your dll files in case they are causing the problem.
Press the Windows key then type the following into the search
box. Type in “command prompt”. Once you have located command
prompt, in the search results, press the Applications key to
bring up the context menu. Arrow down to select “run as
administrator” and press the Enter key. This will take you to a
command prompt window. This will not be spoken out. You may need
sighted assistance for this.
Type in the following command
for %x in (c:\windows\system32\*.dll) do regsvr32 /s %x
This should re-register all components in the system32 folder.
When it is finished, you can close the command prompt window
with the Alt + F4 key. You should notice now where NVDA was
saying “unknown” as in some examples given, NVDA should now read
the icons in the running applications area of Windows, speak the
content of the webpage and menus, and also in Mozilla
Thunderbird and other places in Windows including the Windows
applications context menu.
hopefully one of the ways either the snap shot or this way will
hopefully fix it for you.
By the way if the latest snapshot fixes it can you let us know
please.

I’d like to see if NVDA with MS Edge can recognize visited links by pressing V like IE 11 and Firefox. Every time I hit V on a sites where I know I’ve visited links NVDA just say not supported in this document. I love Edge, but this would help loads. Thanks.

Re: Scanner / OCR recommendation
Yes I remember having "Acquire text" in the Word file menu back in the (pre Word 2007) day. I think mine was part of Omnipage from memory, but either way that's definitely the kind of functionality I'd be interested in, and I expect most have a ribbon add-on these days.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts - no purchase yet, but lots of new information.
Kind regards

What it could be set to also do was put the unrecognised stuff in as graphics, which I found not very helpful so never allowed it.
You could then edit it as needed It did preserve formatting in that it would attempt to use spaces to do the formatting but seldom got it completely correct.

As far as I know, the document that appeared in the program window was never properly accessible. I don't have Word. I used the program a little many years ago. I would scan a page. Select all, control a, copy it to the clipboard, then paste into a Notepad file. I wanted a text copy, not a copy with formatting. It was just for my own reading. Then I would scan another page and repeat the procedure. I don’t know what the program did in general. The version I had would ask me if I wanted to save the text, as I recall. I said no and scanned the next page, selected the text, copied it to the clipboard, etc.
I didn't have a program like Word to scan the text into. It was a little cumbersome but it wasn't bad.

My only minor disappointment is that it seems very much tied to

why can't it convert the unformatted text into a .txt file?
I too purchased KNFB Reader when it was on cheap price offer, but I

Re: bleeps when using explorer file list
When moving through the list of files, I'd second Jonathan's guess at file previews. I am not on my Windows 7 machine at the moment, but in the folder options in the view settings there should be an option to turn that off.
The other thing you can find on the tree view, is if you have things like network drives (and OneDrive in Windows 10), if the network is slow, that can cause issues loading.

Well, I am at a loss as far as NVDA is concerned. I have the latest update for both Windows 10 and NVDA and it still doesn't see taskbar, start menu, context menus, and web pages. I was afraid it was just me, but I installed it on a friend's computer that had just had Windows 10 re-installed and although it recognizes the taskbar and start menu, it does _not recognize web pages and just goes silent. The frustrating part for the developers I would think is that this problem isn't something that is across the board on everyone's windows 10 computer. Some people seem to be doing quite nicely from what I'm seeing on this list. I'm just fortunate not to have to depend on NVDA, but my friend does and I will have to find a work-around for when she wants to go on the web..

Thanks. I'm definitely going to be putting your tips
to good use. I'm loving this Thunderbird client even more then I
did Eudora Pro. Wish I made the switch sooner.

reading various sections of Mozilla Thunderbird.
I'm primarily using the NVDA+Down arrow shortcut
to read the message preview window. It does a lot more. Visiting

Kenny <kwashingtonbox@...>
Thanks for the heads up. I did get the Systray
add-on. Still trying to get use to using the Winkey+b shortcut.
I'm really looking for a way to copy and append
info onto the clipboard.
JAWS offered the [Insert+Ctrl+c] function to do
this. Does NVDA offer this functionality? I tend to do this alot
when creating my own cheat sheet for learning new programs (Like
with NVDA.)

Sure.
You'll want Windows App Essentials definitely I think. There are
some things that simulate functions of JFW, if you're used to
that, e.g. the systray or system tray, forget what it's called,
gives you NVDA-f11 which brings up a list like JFW. You don't need
it, you can get to the system tray with Winkey-b I think, but I
used it when I was starting out because I was so used to it in
JFW, and just kept on using it.
There's also a place markers addon and a ... I don't remember what
it's called, but it puts things in a window you can copy out of.
Looks like it's called "virtual Revision". Basically I'd say have
a look around the community addons site. They all have
descriptions so you can see if they make sense, or just try a
couple at a time and see what you like. For example, I installed
"day of the week" once because I actually needed that
functionality, but I found I only needed it that one time, so I
got rid of it.
There are a few addons that are useful for specific things that
aren't on the community addons site for some reason, the two I
know offhand have to do with games. But the community addons are a
good place to start because they're vetted by the community so you
know there's nothing bad in them. I think that happened once,
there was some addon, I forget what it did, supposedly gave you
access to a bunch of synthesizers illegally maybe, but it turned
out to be some sort of virus or such.

Hi Roger,
With the Windows 10 Weather App, can you get information in the

hi
the following might help.
By the way if the latest snapshot fixes it can you let us know
please.
