Re: embedded object in Firefox
Cearbhall O'Meadhra
Hi,
I found a problem in Firefox when attempting to listen to a sample of an audio book in the BorrowBox library system. I don't know if this is an NVDA problem or exclusively a Firefox Flash Player issue. or if Bolinda need to do something with their Java script. I should mention that the sighted user has no problem playing the audio sample using a mouse. I am using Windows 10,, NVDA 2016.1 and Firefox46.1 on a desktop PC. If List members would like to see the problem for themselves I recommend the following url: https://fe.bolindadigital.com/wldcs_bol_fo/b2i/productOverview.html?b2bSite= 4834&browseItemId=366096&fromPage=1 It is not necessary to sign in to sample the reading of a title. Here is a typical audio book display: --Start of clip ----------------------- link graphic Railway Viaduct embedded object unavailable (this should say "Preview" but doesn't!) Link Reserve On Loan, Available on 22/05/16 Link Railway Viaduct Link Edward Marston Read by Sam Dastor Crime & Thriller, Historical Fiction eAudiobook - Unabridged ---end of clip ------------------ The player for the audio sample is activated by an "embedded object" that is flagged by NVDA as "not being available". The BorrowBox help page advises that Adobe flash must be active to enable audio sampling of each title. I have Adobe flash installed and active. For example, I can play any song in YouTube in Firefox without any problem. After many weeks of failing to play the preview, I found the following workaround using NVDA: From the top of the web page select eAudio if not already selected. Then press "g" to find a book title. If the next object after pressing down-arrow once is "embedded Object" then you have an audio book and we can start. Here is the full sequence of steps: 1. Press G for the graphic of the book title; 2. Press down-arrow once to the embedded object. You should hear "Embedded Object not available"; 3. Press NVDA + numpad Enter to activate the embedded object. You should hear "Embedded Object Unavailable Activate"; 4. Press right arrow once. You should hear ""Space"; 5. Press the space bar to start and stop the sample audio of the narrator speaking. If pressing the space bar does not act as a toggle and the enter key does not do the job either: 6. Press right arrow once; 7. Press space bar or main keyboard enter to play and stop playing the audio sample. Can anyone advise what to do about this? A. Is it an NVDA problem? B. Is it a Firefox problem? c. Is it a BorrowBox problem for the developer Bolinda to see to? All the best, Cearbhall m +353 (0)833323487 Ph: _353 (0)1-2864623 e: cearbhall.omeadhra@...

Hello,

This is the book I'm trying to read. The text is accessible with jaws, and when selecting "infer reading order", then it is possible to access and read it with NVDA. I can read the menus of acrobat reader, but not the text. This text, in particular, is not an image PDF file and it does not need OCR or any kind of conversion.

Hi,
I liked the Instant Translate addon because when reading a document with the occasional word say in German, I can have have NVDA translate it immediately without the hassle of going to the internet. I will be great if someone with the expertise can write another translation addon. Thanks. -------------------------------------------------- From: "Shaun Everiss" <sm.everiss@...> Sent: Saturday, May 07, 2016 7:21 AM To: <nvda@nvda.groups.io> Subject: Re: [nvda] Translation add-on As a temperary solution go to blindaudiogames.com

Re: Cannot read PDF documents with NVDA
Brian's Mail list account
Well firstly we need to know if the files are proper text and not as some instruction manuals seem to be, some form of image of pages of a printed source.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Obviously in that case somebody needs to fix the format. Normally you can test this by exporting the text and seeing if there is any. assuming there is then several things come to mind. I do not know about Windows 10, but sometimes one has to look in the config area of adobe reader and turn off any protection items or security etc, to be able to read them. Obviously also we have got to be sure that if these are complex documents with changes in columns and graphics etc, that the get tagged when created. This is a process few seem to do and even less understand. I know I don't understand how its done, but if its not done and reading order changes in a document, then it tends to go into gobbledegook. I really would advise if you can to suggest the texts are sent to you in a known doc format so that they can be manipulated easier. I had a very odd problem the other day while working on the UK elections pdf, where the first page was fine, but all subsequent pages were just jumbled up, as if the tagging had failed after the first page. I know Nvaccess has put a lot of effort into getting pdf files to work well but sadly those making such files need to play their part or its a total waste of time. Brian bglists@... Ian reed has written the jgt addon which works for japanese games, you will need a username and password on his site as he is paying for the translations for these games and the translations are cached on his server. He eventually hopes to have all the translated japanese games at least on his server making as little requests to google as he can. Its not an official nvda addon but it works, another unofficial addon which is on the jeff.tdrealms.com nvda site with all the others is if interpriters by nick stockman or is it stockton. This handles glulx and a few other interpriters this one is not official and has not had updates for a while but its good. The only thing one needs to do with winfrotz is to start the program first before opening a game with glulx this is fine. Sadly google translate will not work by addon but you should still be able to translate webpages, there is a user limit on it to.

Brian, are you using object navigation, document review, or screen review?

In object navigation/review, it also reports no formatting to me, but, with either document review - think that's the default for web pages - or screen review, it does - just not colour information in IE.
