This is caused by a commit that supposedly fixes how NVDA announces clock icon on the notification area. The issue at hand is: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/5751 I have notified NV Access and the person who wrote this fix (not me) as this is a critical bug. Cheers, Joseph

NVDA not reading in OpenOffice Writer
Vernon Webb <vernonwebb51@...>
I am helping a new user of NVDA. It speaks application names etc, and it echoed letters as I type in OpenOffice Writer, but it doesn’t speak letters, words or lines as I move around a small doc using cursor keys, up/down keys or Ctrl with cursor keys. Any tips where to look? Thanks, Vernon

It would be nice to find out what people think of the new system for settings in nvda now in the next branch.I think its very nice though whether it has any drawbacks is early days to know.

Suggestion for nvda
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
Now the portable and installed versions are getting dedicated downloaders that substantially work the same way, it would be nice to have a choice in both, to start the new version. At present this is only there in portable versions.
This delay seems to stop the issue of nvda restarting and falling over, at least on my machine. You just wait a few seconds and then OK and it always works, whereas installed version just jumping straight in can sometimes generate an invisible error and only esc and a restart of nvda can fix it. Minor but irritating. Brian bglists@blueyonder.co.uk Sent via blueyonder. Please address personal E-mail to:- briang1@blueyonder.co.uk, putting 'Brian Gaff' in the display name field.

Hi! There are perfectly valid reasons for rollouts as they happen right now, with the same update being delivered to different users at different times, sometimes over the course of two weeks or even more. We're talking billions of machines here. Best, Felix Rosemarie Chavarria <knitqueen2007@...> schrieb am Mi., 11. Apr. 2018 um 07:12 Uhr:

Microsoft usually makes major updates available to different parts of the world at different times. If it made it available through automatic downloads simultaneously everywhere, its survers couldn't deliver that amount of data. Also, considering that whenever there is a major update to Windows 10, from one full version to the next, there are numerous problems experienced by enough blind people to amount to something, be careful what you wish for.

Re: Does NVDA support edit controls TRichView and TRichViewEdit
Jim Bretti <jim@...>
Sorry to post again, but I'm looking for help with this to make our dephi application accessible from NVDA. There is a Delphi NVDAObjects file at https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/blob/master/source/NVDAObjects/IAccessible/delphi.py that is attempting to make TRichView and TRichViewEdit accessible. It looks like these entries are very old, but I'd like to know if the accessibility issues has to do with this NVDA file, or if I need to contact the TRichView author about the issue. I'd appreciate any help very much.

Out of curiosity, what happens for you if you type :-) [colon, dash, right peren]instead of just :) [colon, right peren]in FaceBook?

Subject: Re: [nvda] Facebook unhappiness To: nvda@nvda.groups.io Date: Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 2:17 PM I've installed the emoticon addin but it's not really changed anything. It does speak the text when I read what I've typed in the edit windo, so :) is identified as a “smiling smiley” whereas my dictionary entry used to render that as “smiling face”. But, as soon as I post it to Facebook it vanishes! The same effect as the example I placed at the start of this thread. Another curious thing is that the insert emoticon feature of the addin doesn't seem to insert anything into FB or a notepad window. I wouldn't expect it to insert anything but ascii emoticons like the colon and right parenthesis for a smiley face into notepad, but I would have expected it to put them into FB. When other people use emojis in their FB posts FB does attempt to describe them, such as "heavy black heart" (which always made me think somebody was sending love on a sad matter, but which a sighted person tole me is not a black heart at all but some version of a red heart!) ... so even with emoticon addin installed I don't seem to be any closer to being able to use ascii smiley faces in my FB posts!
