Besides it can be annoying if it keeps saying play and pause all the time or stop or whatever, so I tend to use the space bar to avoid the chat and the other keys when I do want to hear stuff.

Does it make any difference which synth is in use when this occurs? You say it does not have enhancements, but some people have found a generic driver has fixed this problem, implying that some drivers are hiding their enhancements or are just not behaving on synth use through screenreaders.

I don't use Gold Wave but not having feedback when
certain keys are pressed may be intentional. When editing, it might really
be nerve-racking to hear keys announced repeatedly that you already know and use
very often. When playing or recording, the same may be true. And, if
you are recording using Stereo Mix, you don't want the screen-reader to talk and
be recorded unless you are doing something you want to be recorded and you
generally wouldn't want commands involved in starting and stopping a recording
to be recorded.
Don't assume and, if something doesn't work as you
expect, think about why it may be the case. If something clearly doesn't
work properly, that's different.
I use MP3 Direct Cut. Even when I have NVDA
set to speak letters, when I issue commands in NVDA Direct Cut, NVDA doesn't
speak. I would think the same reasons apply in both programs. These
are my guesses about why this is the case. They may be wrong but they are
examples of what I'm describing.

FW: [nvda-spl] Important RFC: separate broadcast profiles dialog?
Hi all, Because this may impact some of you and to serve as a testbed for other add-ons, I’d like to gather feedback (privately please unless you are part of either the add-ons list or NvDA-SPL list) regarding the below proposal. Only those who have or are thinking about using NVDA, StationPlaylist Studio, and the SPL add-on together should respond. Cheers, Joseph

Hi everyone,
If you have time, please go over the following proposal and comment on it, as it’ll affect experience for everyone using SPL add-on in the future:
Currently NVDA Core users (those on next snapshots) are testing massively redesigned Settings dialog. The new design combines various preferences dialogs into a multi-category property sheet. If things go well, the new design will land as part of NVDA 2018.2.
For several months, I and some broadcasters were thinking about adopting this approach for SPL add-on settings dialog. Currently the dialog consists of:
The new design calls for:
Unfortunately, this means there may not be room to include broadcast profiles for various reasons:
Thus the proposal: should broadcast profiles be split into its own dialog, similar in manner to how NVDA itself does it for configuration profiles?
Advantages:
Drawbacks:
Comments from everyone are appreciated, preferably for those thinking about using NVDA and/or SPL add-on, as well as those who do have experience with multi-category NVDA settings design and the older method.
Thanks. Cheers, Joseph

Dear Gene,
thank you for your great job. This is very important for the whole community. I have forwarded your links to the german community and in the translations group.
I hope I will find some time during next week to provide you some suggestions.
I propose to split the related sources in “development sources” and “user specific sources”. In this way we could add links to github and bitbucket as well.

Hello, Have you tried to disable the audio enhancements, please read below. In order to fix the high CPU usage, disable the audio enhancements processed by the audiodg.exe file. To disable the audio enhancements, try the following steps: 1. Right-click the speaker icon in the right-hand notification area on the taskbar. 2. Select Playback Devices from the menu. A list of devices should appear on the screen. 3. Double-click the device that has a green checkmark. The properties windows for that device should open. 4. Click the Enhancements tab at the top. 5. From the list of enhancements, uncheck all of them, or click the Disable all enhancements checkbox. 6. Click the OK button to save your changes and close the window. 7. Click OK to close the Playback Devices window.

Hi All I’m having an alarming issue with NVDA eating all my ram through the Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation Process; audiodg.exe. Quite a technical issue – I’ll Try and explain it the best I can. I had been using my laptop, running Windows 10 and NVDA 2018.1.1, for about 3 hours doing a lot of Emails and document editing using Microsoft word; so not that advanced. Suddenly, I got a blue screen error telling me my virtual memory had been used up and my laptop needed to restart. I was naturally curious as to what could’ve, first used so much ram, then that it needed to eat all my virtual memory up. I consulted task manager and found that the windows audio device graph isolation process – file audiodg.exe was using just over a GB of ram! I new this wasn’t normal and as I was watching it was increasing very fast. It only increases when NVDA is talking though, that’s the weird thing. I’ve verified that all my audio settings are normal and my audio drivers are up to date. There is nothing else I have running that comes close to using this much ram. After a while the audiodg.exe program uses so much ram that it shifts some into virtual to try and free some ram. This process then continues until over 30 GB of virtual has been used; then I get the blue screen error. I then tried using narrator to see what happened to the amount of ram audiodg.exe was using and it was a normal amount and wasn’t increasing. I then played some music and the results were fine again. Has anyone had this issue before that could help me come to a solution on how to fix this weird leak. If there’s anymore info you need please let me know. Thanks Luke
