Re: any one on here use f123 chrome extention?

Gene

Whatever else may have used that or a similar name, F123 is an add on for both Firefox and Chrome.  I haven't used it.  I suspect that oddities encountered are the result of the add on but, without testing, that's just my suspicion.  I don't like the Chrome interface but in terms of working with web pages, I've found browse mode to work just about the same as in firefox and Internet Explorer.  Occasionally, there will be a difference, such as one screen-reader reading different text on a control because it's looking at different text in the control, but in general, I find that browse mode is browse mode.

You can turn the add on offf in Chrome and still leave it installed.  It's been a long time since I've played with this, but if you want to experiment and if someone else doesn't give the procedure, I can look again.

First, it may help if instead of just saying "weird quirks" if you can tell us what specifically those things are, so we can have a better feel for how to assist.

Second, did I perhaps miss something here? I thought F123 was a really old, and all be it also, very dead last I looked, distro of Linux that was made specifically for the blind. And before anyone gets OT asking me, no, I don't know if the packages included with it would be up to date, nor how far a sudo apt[get update would take you. I don't even know if apt is included. It might use either yum, or pacman. Anyway, that's not for this list though, so I digress. Point is, it's pretty old, but as far as a Chrome extension with that name, I'm curious what this thing does.

Antony Stone

So, who's the actual original source of these voices, then?

I thought "vocaliser" was the brand name for the voices, and that Codefactory
and Tiflotecnia were simply resellers - ie: passing on the same goods, in the
same way you can buy the same laptop in different shops, maybe for different
prices, maybe with different warranties, but at the end of the day the thing
you get is just the same.

Re: soule seek question

I don't use QT, only nS. Curious to know about your success with QT as I couldn't get much out of it.

On NS, can you find the search tab? When you activate it, a box should come up where you can enter a name.
I don't think you can tell Soulseek what type of file to search for, but it will work if you use an extension. Soulseek doesn't differentiate between types of files shared by its users, as far as I know. You can search for specific names of things, or browse file lists of users. I know you can search for a username as well, but I never do this, personally. I just use the file search. I do have some 'favourite users" and I've added them based on the type of files they share or if I know them personally.

What does it do in other software? I'm suspicious of the office program as there have been many versions of it and some are not very accessible at all.
What about web browsing, notepad or wrdpad. if the same is happening I suggest a look at the preferences menu and toggle a few things and see if it helps. Normally though, on a new installation sensible defaults occur.

More details of the system etc, and portable or installed version might also be useful, along with the version of nvda in use.

When I got Vocalizer a ways back, what you buy is the license to use it and after that, you can download as many, or as few, voices as you want.

Brian & Brandon,

Thanks to you both for your input.  I agree that the developer needs to do something (and probably won't).  At least Focus Highlight gave me a clear idea of what was, and was not, occurring.

I would think the best solution is the tried-and-true terminal mode. In this case, the device would be a braille display driven by nvda. Of course, this would require Braille display drivers, but wood share Braille information seamlessly.

I have not tried the device, so don't know what its abilities are. Best, Erik

Or if I’m on the desktop, just dump the current screen to the Canute? Or if on a website, and if using a reader addon in chrome or firefox or edge, send the website for viewing on the Canute? Or if I am in a view of a graph or chart in a spreadsheet like excel, send all info about, and regarding the chart, to the Canute for viewing? The canute would be more of a display for reading, not for editing.

Hello Quentin,
Thank you for your reply.
No, there is no problem to use the spelling checker with these errors.
But it seems that some of the gestures and scripts are not linked as expected.
I don't use the next and master of NVDA.
I noticed these errors from NVDA 2018.1.
I know that I'm going to send this information on the nvda-devel list, but I can't, do it as well as being registered and I don't know why.
So I hope someone dot it for me.
Thanks.
Sory for my bad english.

Subject: [nvda] NVDA and WordFinder (and, perhaps, other similarly designed programs)

Hello All,

I've had a long dry spell as far as NVDA goes but I'm back on the proverbial horse again. I am working with someone who is a natural language translator and uses a program called WordFinder for English to several other languages or vice versa word searches. The program appears to be somewhat odd in several ways as far as following any Windows coding conventions. For instance, you cannot use keyboard shortcuts to maximize or restore down for its window. The only way to maximize is to point and click on the maximize button on the window frame, which is not read by NVDA or JAWS, or to change the shortcut to run the program maximized. I am going to attempt to describe both the layout of the search screen and the specific behavior from NVDA in the hopes that someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong or not doing that I need to be doing.

The main search screen contains an edit box at the upper left that is actually a combo box that "collects" the searches you've been doing since the program was opened in case you need or want to revisit one without retyping or to get the specific dictionary search. Directly beneath that is a column of words that always displays the word you searched for, highlighted/focused on if it's found, with about 5 or 6 words in alphabetical order above it and about 15 words in the same order below. The intention is to allow you to arrow up or down if you search on a word that might have multiple definitions, and it displays the word multiple times if it does, or to see related short phrases that contain the word. On the left of that column, whatever word or phrase has focus has that word, a blank line, and then the translation into the foreign language presented. There are three "zones."

The edit box for the target word acts pretty much as I expect. You fill it in, hit enter, and the column below populates with focus on the word as described above. However, when you tab off of the edit box to that word column NVDA announces, "Pane." Once the Pane has focus if you up arrow or down arrow it will move up and down the word column, but announce nothing at all as focus changes. What, if anything, can I do to make NVDA announce the word/phrase you're throwing focus on in that pane as you traverse up and down the column?

In addition, we're having some difficulty with getting the third zone that shows the word that has focus in the column, followed by blank line, followed by its translation. The only way we've been able to do it is to use the program's "Copy Special" command which presents a dialog with this same material in a single text area that NVDA (and JAWS, too) will read. This is, however, extremely time consuming compared to being able to throw focus into that "third zone" where that information is already present on the screen.

The overall behavior in JAWS is quite similar, but because there is no equivalent of the Focus Highlight add-on I cannot be as certain of what JAWS considers where it has focus, and having that "compare and contrast" is at times very helpful in figuring out whether a given issue can be resolved or not.

Thanks in advance for any assistance or guidance you can offer.
