A word of warning about this download. it has embedded in its installer, Ad Aware which it seems to install no matter what you tell it at install time. then when you make a selection in the main screen, it has changed the browser to use an AVG piece of software presumably to keep you safe but which wants to flog you avg stuff all the time. I had to uninstall both of these to get my home page back and then the next time I ran the conversion software it tried to install it again. Now I do not mind suggestions from software, and some of them have been good, but i dislike this you will have this no matter what approach, so I've reluctantly removed the convertor. As mentioned there could be ways around this I'm not aware of, but the nocandy switch installed from the command line seemed to do nothing in this case. Just be warned. Not all of these add ins are welcome or indeed accessible. I'm sure the intentions were good , but maybe not for a blind user. Brian

Re: setting up the people app on windows 10
Bobby, There are a couple of variables to involved in answering your question. Windows 10 has an app separate from, but closely allied with, the mail app called "People." It acts as the address book. I use Gmail and access it via IMAP on several different e-mail clients, including the Win10 mail app. The Win10 mail app has automatically synchronized my existing contacts in my gmail account that I use as my Microsoft account ID to my People app as well as those from the specific gmail account that I'm actually accessing via the mail app. If you have always created your contacts in your local address book under Thunderbird, which is quite likely, you can always export those contacts then import them via the web interface for the e-mail account you've been using. From there the People app will synchronize them automatically for any account that is in the mail & people apps. I have yet to find good documentation on doing an import from, for instance, a comma separated list or excel spreadsheet of e-mail addresses straight into the People app. It seems to presume you'll be using a modern e-mail client that synchronizes both messages and contacts with the server.

Re: Hi, from win10 Mail App!
I am guessing that he got windows mail - the older windows 7 version - working via the tweak available on the following page: http://opopanax.net/download/Look for the windows mail heading level 3 item, and if you're prepared to try work with the files in that zip file, then first read the readMe.txt, and it says that it's possible that service pack installations etc. might mess it up later on, but, you also need to make sure you handle part of the tasks frfrom the right context - run as administrator, etc. Either way, it says that windows mail is installed along with windows 10, but, sort of turned off, and does a couple of things to then enable it again - have run through this on my windows 10 pro 64 bit machine, and it works just fine, but, still trying to decide on best method to export all my archived messages from thunderbird, before possibly switching back to windows mail myself, since it's still pretty much an outlook express replica/clone...<smile> Stay well Jacob Kruger Blind Biker Skype: BlindZA "Resistance is futile, acceptance is versatile"

Re: Cannot read PDF documents with NVDA
Brian's Mail list account BY <bglists@...>
Often most conversion systems rely on a good reading order choice or tagging in the pdf. Unfortunately most of the files I've encountered seem to have neither of these set as default and end up having columns run together and words with letters and spaces alternating and some formatting stuff embedded in the text. If this conversion system has got around this by some kind of inteligence, then do say.
On a similar issue, how would one deal with doc files sent which seem to be embedded graphic dumps of scanned in paper documents. the nvda OCR add on fails to give me anything sensible and I did wonder if it was possible to extract the files and make them into tiff files so I could run different ocr packages over the result using nvda. Thus, I am converting all my school textbook PDF files into Word, using what is called the Oxillion Document Converter, which you will readily find via a quick google search. Do try and persist to be able to access the material in its original format itself, that is PDF, if you wish to, but as the last resort, bear in mind that a Word conversion trick would probably suffice. I followed the instructions I posted before that had come from Freedom Scientific Technical Support, but with Adobe DC, and it does cause NVDA to read through the document without having to scroll from page to page. There was no OK button at the last step of the things you have to do in Reader DC itself beyond the Accessibility Wizard, you just close the dialog after dealing with the Security (Advanced) setting related to protected mode. The first time I fired up Adobe Acrobat DC with NVDA active it gave me a dialog where I also confirmed that I wanted it to read all pages and infer reading order from document, and to use the accessibility options I'd set in Reader DC itself, then checked the box that said not to show that dialog again.
It takes quite a while to pre-process the text you're using because it's 305 pages long, but it does get there, and NVDA reads the whole document from wherever you start the reading.

I know like me people like this add on as if nothing else it alerts when a download is complete, however recently all my machines, xp, 10 and 7 have had a version of Firefox 47 installed. For one thing this version is like a slug on any single core machine, no matter which operating system it has, but rather annoyingly, the navigational sounds add on no longer works in it. I've just spent a good half an our downdating all machines to 46 which has fixed the issues. I have no idea what Mozilla have done but its not good. I have now disabled updates in the advanced options update tab in tools until somebody lets me know this issue is sorted out in 47. There are a lot of single core processor machines out there which will fall fouls of this and as blind folk the loss of sound I find very irritating and confusing. I do not have any idea how to submit a bug report like this, so if you can and do, check what I say and tell them please. In the meantime 46 is just fine.
Incidentally 47 is so slow on some of my AMD single core machines you get an nevda error when you click links etc.
