Yes, I feel the need for this too. Cliccable elements are getting more and more common these days, and I never know how to navigate between them. It would be great to have a dedicated letter. Ciao, Ollie

Re: Hi, from win10 Mail App!

Hi,
When you are using the win10 mail app, your contacts are imported into the
people app. So, you need to use the people app for your contacts and addresses,
and the mail app to work with the messages. So, you have the people app and the
mail app working together and you should have them both running at the same
time. The Calendar app is very closely related to the mail app as well. So
really, to have it all, you need the mail, people, and calendar apps running all

Re: setting up the people app on windows 10

Hi Brian,
This is how it worked for me. It took me a few hours to figure this out
LOL! When I imported my Gmail accounts into the mail app, those contacts
automatically imported into the people app. Really, the mail, people, and the

10 Bobby, There are a couple of variables to involved in answering your question. Windows 10 has an app separate from, but closely allied with, the mail app called "People." It acts as the address book. I use Gmail and access it via IMAP on several different e-mail clients, including the Win10 mail app. The Win10 mail app has automatically synchronized my existing contacts in my gmail account that I use as my Microsoft account ID to my People app as well as those from the specific gmail account that I'm actually accessing via the mail app. If you have always created
your contacts in your local address book under Thunderbird, which is quite
likely, you can always export those contacts then import them via the web
interface for the e-mail account you've been using. From there the People
app will synchronize them automatically for any account that is in the mail
& people apps. I have yet to find good documentation on doing an
import from, for instance, a comma separated list or excel spreadsheet of e-mail
addresses straight into the People app. It seems to presume you'll be
using a modern e-mail client that synchronizes both messages and contacts with
the server. Never underestimate the difficulty of changing false beliefs by facts.

Re: embedded object in Firefox

I should also add that at times, if I do try the
standard method and it doesn't work, I have to completely start over when trying
other methods. In other words, I have to leave the embedded object and
then move to it again and try another method. the standard method works on
certain Flash Players but I have found variations such as are being discussed to
work in more. So you may want to try the variations often first. You
may save time.

Re: need a free and accessible file converter which can convert wma or webm files to mp3
Dean Masters <dwmasters15@...>
I just downloaded and installed the latest version of Format Factory. It put other softwrare on my PC even though I thought I was being careful not to allow any other programs. And the program is not usable with a screen reader. One chooses what they want to do in a menu down the left side of the page and click on that menu heading and the menu opens. The only items that can be read are the first line of items. so if you have a blue ray DVD you want to rip to mkv then you are in luck. If you want to rip a cd then there is no way with the latest version. One must go back to version 3.6 to be able to see all the menu items.

I use another screen reader so maybe the newer versions work with NVDA.

Let's say I want to convert an audio file. I use the mouse cursor to find the menu on the left side of the screen to go to audio and left click. All the different types of audio files should appear under that menu item but with my screen reader a few would show up but not all of them. I know you can convert audio through the context menu but what if you want to rip a DVD? You must use the menus on the left side of the screen and the menu items are not seen by screen readers. Dean

Re: embedded object in Firefox

Hello Cearbhall,

I'm in the U.S. I'm running the same version of firefox as you but I am running Windows 7 home premium with all updates and NVDA 2016.1. The link you sent worked for me when I eliminated the linefeed character after the equals sign. I played several samples. Here's how I did it. 1. Arrow to the unavailable embedded object. 2. Route the mouse to the embedded object with nvda plus numPad slash. 3. Left click by pressing numPad slash. I tried three samples and they all played for me using this method. Give this method a go and let us know if it works on your system. Good luck, George

I don't know if this is an NVDA problem or exclusively a Firefox Flash Player issue. or if Bolinda need to do something with their Java script. I should mention that the sighted user has no problem playing the audio sample using a mouse. I am using Windows 10,, NVDA 2016.1 and Firefox46.1 on a desktop PC. If List members would like to see the problem for themselves I recommend the following url: https://fe.bolindadigital.com/wldcs_bol_fo/b2i/productOverview.html?b2bSite= 4834&browseItemId=366096&fromPage=1 It is not necessary to sign in to sample the reading of a title. Here is a typical audio book display: --Start of clip ----------------------- link graphic Railway Viaduct embedded object unavailable (this should say "Preview" but doesn't!) Link Reserve On Loan, Available on 22/05/16 Link Railway Viaduct Link Edward Marston Read by Sam Dastor Crime & Thriller, Historical Fiction eAudiobook - Unabridged ---end of clip ------------------ The player for the audio sample is activated by an "embedded object" that is flagged by NVDA as "not being available". The BorrowBox help page advises that Adobe flash must be active to enable audio sampling of each title. I have Adobe flash installed and active. For example, I can play any song in YouTube in Firefox without any problem. After many weeks of failing to play the preview, I found the following workaround using NVDA: From the top of the web page select eAudio if not already selected. Then press "g" to find a book title. If the next object after pressing down-arrow once is "embedded Object" then you have an audio book and we can start. Here is the full sequence of steps: 1. Press G for the graphic of the book title; 2. Press down-arrow once to the embedded object. You should hear "Embedded Object not available"; 3. Press NVDA + numpad Enter to activate the embedded object. You should hear "Embedded Object Unavailable Activate"; 4. Press right arrow once. You should hear ""Space"; 5. Press the space bar to start and stop the sample audio of the narrator speaking. If pressing the space bar does not act as a toggle and the enter key does not do the job either: 6. Press right arrow once; 7. Press space bar or main keyboard enter to play and stop playing the audio sample. Can anyone advise what to do about this? A. Is it an NVDA problem? B. Is it a Firefox problem? c. Is it a BorrowBox problem for the developer Bolinda to see to? All the best, Cearbhall m +353 (0)833323487 Ph: _353 (0)1-2864623 e: cearbhall.omeadhra@...

Re: setting up the people app on windows 10
Bobby, There are a couple of variables to involved in answering your question. If you have always created your contacts in your local address book under Thunderbird, which is quite likely, you can always export those contacts then import them via the web interface for the e-mail account you've been using. From there the People app will synchronize them automatically for any account that is in the mail & people apps. I have yet to find good documentation on doing an import from, for instance, a comma separated list or excel spreadsheet of e-mail addresses straight into the People app. It seems to presume you'll be using a modern e-mail client that synchronizes both messages and contacts with the server. Never underestimate the difficulty of changing false beliefs by facts. ~ Henry Rosovsky

Re: need a free and accessible file converter which can convert wma or webm files to mp3
Dean Masters <dwmasters15@...>
Is version 3.9 fully accessible? The last couple of updates have not been. One could open the program and choose the menu down the left side but then none of the items in the menus were read with a screen reader. so I have been using version 3.6.
