The other problem I'm having is that when I get a message back that's from me, I don't hear my name read out. There's definitely something wrong with thunderbird.

Well to be honest I agree, my view is that especially now that governments want backdoors for various things into your devices and digital accounts they can, but then security of all things are their issues and yeah they get hacked to.
Some of us may rebel but even I am going to have to bite the bullet one day, at least for the units I use and for the rest I am unsure, for my personal unit I may try to hack my way into something so that things work in a round about way.
But really who knows how long all the little patches will work just to make 10 as close to what I am using now.

Its not, but to be honest it doesn't matter anymore now days, just about everything you interact with will have some of your info stored online.
So if some of it is, then it may all as well be stored, if some of it is hacked from a system, well it may as well be all of it.
Its the age we live in.
Also most don't go round with 1 device alone, syncing is good for example if you have several devices and lets face it a fair number of us do.
The words security and privacy are changing, they were created pre net and don't mean what they used to mean.
Till real world/net laws equalise they will continue to change and even when they do they still may.
Its a different way of handling things.

One big caution on the "automatic import" of contacts for the People app
is this only works if your e-mail client was set up (or capable of)
using the contacts associated with your e-mail account and syncing them.

There are a number of e-mail clients that don't work that way, and when
I was last setting up Thunderbird it didn't work that way. Just a few
days ago I had to tweak a client's Thunderbird setup because the e-mail
account she had been using through an ISP no longer exists, and she was
terrified that all her contacts were going to go when that account went.
They didn't, though, because her contacts (or, perhaps, addresses - I
can't remember which terminology Tbird uses) are stored local to Tbird
and are not synced with her e-mail accounts. Since I'm the one who
installed Tbird for her several years ago and I know I didn't change any
defaults related to how contacts/addresses are handled, it appears that
they are managed locally.

When that's the case, you need to make certain to export from your
e-mail client and import via the web interface to the contacts for the
given e-mail account you're going to be adding to the mail app, and, by
extension, the People and Calendar apps. Whether you do this prior to
adding it or after will be irrelevant because as soon as those contacts
are imported into the contacts list maintained by your email server they
will sync with the People app.

I hasten to add this is also likely only applicable to IMAP access,
though I'm not 100% certain on that.

I wonder if it is the same idea as outlook.com? is it more like a online
email client? that will let you get emails from other email addresses
like g mail and so on?

I know in outlook.com there is like a pain you can set when you go to
read the email. It when opened could go below the message above the
message or like on another page. if it was set for below after you
pressed enter on the email then it was a matter of using the say all
command. If it was set like off to the side then I would use the table
command to locate it. But say after you read the email if i remember
right I had to use the alt key and the left arrow key to go back to
where teh messages were, then go to the next one. When I done replies
as well to a message I am sure this could also be set to reply above the
message or below it as well under the settings part.

I guess I will know if I setup a account just to see the steps required
and what has to be done once i locate my details to setup a account.

At present I am using mozilla thunderbird and I like it so the other
would be a look and see what you have to do.

using the new Win10 mail app that ships with every Win10 machine and
shows up on the start menu out of the box.

It's got little in common with earlier e-mail clients other
than the fact that it is used to read mail.


I'm still not able to get message text read using NVDA and the
Win10 mail app, but I'm presuming that this is operator error of some
sort.

I don't recall if I copied and pasted that character in the first place.  You can avoid unnecessary steps by copying the link the the clipboard,
Opening the browser you want to use, pasting the link in, then simply moving to the end of the link by pressing end.  If there is an incorrect character at the end, simply back space.  You can move around and edit in the address bar as in any other edit field.

I’m sure that the method used to remove the linefeed character doesn’t matter but here’s how I did it.
I copied the entire link to the clipboard.
I opened a new notepad plusplus document and pasted the link into it.
Next, I deleted the linefeed character and copied the link to the clipboard.
Finally, I opened firefox, pressed ctrl plus l, pasted the link into the URL edit box and pressed enter.
The link worked at that point.

The link you sent worked for me when I eliminated the linefeed character
after the equals sign.
I played several samples.  Here's how I did it.
1.  Arrow to the unavailable embedded object.
2.  Route the mouse to the embedded object with nvda plus numPad slash.
3.  Left click by pressing numPad slash.
I tried three samples and they all played for me using this method.

Give this method a go and let us know if it works on your system.

flagged by NVDA as "not being available". The BorrowBox help page advises
that Adobe flash must be active to enable audio sampling of each title. I
have Adobe flash installed and active. For example, I can play any song in
YouTube in Firefox without any problem.

After many weeks of failing to play the preview, I found the following
workaround using NVDA:

From the top of the web page select eAudio if not already selected. Then
press "g" to find a book title. If the next   object after pressing
down-arrow once is "embedded Object" then you have an audio book and we can
start.

Here is the full sequence of steps:
1. Press G for the graphic of the book title; 2. Press down-arrow once to
the embedded object. You should hear "Embedded Object not available"; 3.

Will you be using the nvda screen reader for the audio tutorial? so we
can hear what problems that we might have and how to get arond them? or
the other one?

I was just reading through the stuff from the drop box account to do
with the email client it sounds almost the same as out look.ocm in a
way. I might even have a look and set up a account with nvda to see what
has to be done when I get some free time.

Hi,
When you are using the win10 mail app, your contacts are imported into
the people app. So, you need to use the people app for your contacts
and addresses, and the mail app to work with the messages. So, you
have the people app and the mail app working together and you should
have them both running at the same time. The Calendar app is very
closely related to the mail app as well. So really, to have it all,
you need the mail, people, and calendar apps running all at the same
time. This is how it differs to other clients. You need three apps
running to have the whole picture.

Jacob,

Since David Moore has also posted elsewhere about this he is
using the new Win10 mail app that ships with every Win10 machine and
shows up on the start menu out of the box.

It's got little in common with earlier e-mail clients other
than the fact that it is used to read mail.


I'm still not able to get message text read using NVDA and the
Win10 mail app, but I'm presuming that this is operator error of some
sort.

The two OCRs I use, omnipage and freeOCR, do convert pdf. But the first one isn't free, and the second one prone to klingon.

do you mean libreoffice?
if so, i use my desire program and open my documents with it.
for example: i press enter in all my word and rtf documents and
libreoffice writer opens it properly.
or i can use libreoffice writer, press control+o to activate open menu
and brows for my file and open it with libreoffice writer.
or i can press application key and select open with.
between different programs select libreoffice writer to open my document.
but only i have libreoffice in my system and it recognizes the type of
my documents and in most cases, when i press enter in my documents
libreoffice opens them without any issue.
which version of libreoffice do you use?

Try pressing the F6 function key followed by escape, focus is sometimes
lost after using menus as well, make sure it's maximised.

Sometimes a PDF document is a picture of the text rather than the text
itself, so you will have to do OCR on it to make it read.
You can try the OCR ad-on, or if you have Kurzweil 1000, you can open
the document in Kurzweil 1000 and it will give you a text
representation of the document.
