Re: What Level of Support Does NVDA Offer for Arabic, Persian, and Urdu?

Re: what can i do please help
Chris Mullins
Paul I googled problems with Dell laptops and numeric keypads and several years ago there were issues. I noted that fn key usage was also mentioned and there are some bios settings regarding fn usage, so it might be worth checking what settings your particular model has. Similarly, it mayh be worth checking for updated numeric keypad drivers.
Cheers Chris

In praise of new control panel
Brian's Mail list account
The new format of settings in nvda makes it far faster to change stuff than the old one as then you need to know which dialogue to open to do an adjustment, here they are all there all the time so its faster to find the right one.
I have not thought it through, but I imagine there are good reasons for the dialogues not included, due to their list of substitutions etc, making them tend to clutter up the clean system somewhat if they were included. Brian's Mail list account
I'm not sure about the control of linux machines, but have you maybe considered a normal desktop with radio keyboard or even a wire linked one. I certainly do this in my bed. One could easily have it within reach of the bed to turn it on or off and also feed it through decent speakers and use it for audio as well. If its a quiet pc, which many now are, then its ideal and less prone to issues than laptops of any power. No problems keeping it cool either.

Re: Tesseract update
Brian's Mail list account
This did come up some time back and as I recall the new version is a very big file and totally different to the current one in nvda, and was thought a bit over the top considering the paid for ocrs out there at reasonable costs, if this has changed then I may have missed it.

Of course it could be that somebody could implement the windows ocr in a third party app, but I've never seen this done, so may well be exclusive to Microsoft. Certainly, on the I phone I believes its used in the Microsoft Seeing AI ap. Brian bglists@... Sent via blueyonder. What Level of Support Does NVDA Offer for Arabic, Persian, and Urdu?
Saaqib Mahmuud
Hello NVDA Group mates! How are you? I am a visually impaired person from Pakistan, with an MPhil qualification in mathematics and working as a college-level math teacher. My question is, what level of support does the NVDA screen reader provide with Urdu, Persian, and Arabic texts? Is it NVDA reliable enough for reading the Quran character by character, word by word, sentence by sentence, line by line, paragraph by paragraph, and using SayAll, just as it is possible to read through materials in the English language? Can one read through the poems and ghazals of such Urdu poets as Iqbal and Ghalib with the help of the NVDA? What additional software is needed, if any, for best results? Regards. NVDA from bed
John J. Boyer
Hello,
because of problemds with my legs and feet (I'll be 82 in July.) I have to keep my fet elevated most of the time. I have a hospital bed for that porpose. I'm loking for a small and light lapotop on which I could install NVDA and a ssh program to access the Linux machines on my network. Which ssh program works best with NVDA? I am deaf-blind, so I will be using a Focus 14 Braille display. I know this works through USB. Can NVDA handle a bluetooth connection? The ssh program will be used to access my Linux maschines. I will use the laptop for accessing my Twitter account with EasyChirp. It will be connected to my router through wi-fi. Thanks for any suggestions, John -- John J. Re: Tesseract update
Diego Ricardo Matos <diegoricardomatosm4@...>
Hello guys! I agree, but sometimes we have to use computers that do not run windows 10 and it would be useful to update the OCR.

Re: Tesseract update
Brandon Cross <bcross3286@...>
Why. I thought the addon would be deprecated in favor of the Windows 10 built in OCR. If you have the addon, disable or uninstall it, and use the same keystroke, and you will have results from the Windows OCR available in a virtual buffer. It works quite a bit better than the addon, and the result of the OCR is better as well.

Tesseract update
Diego Ricardo Matos <diegoricardomatosm4@...>
Hello guys!
I was searching for information about the tesseract, the OCR engine used by the NVDA addon, and it is available updates for it. I don't know what changes but either way I'm posting the link to the project page on git ub. https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/releases It may be possible to update the addon?
