Re: Does NVDA support bluetooth connection?

Quentin Christensen

Hi John,

As Laz indicated, NVDA does support the full range of Focus displays.  From the NVVDA User Guide:

14.1. Freedom Scientific Focus/PAC Mate Series
All Focus and PAC Mate displays from Freedom Scientific are supported when connected via USB or bluetooth. You will need the Freedom Scientific braille display drivers installed on your system. If you do not have them already, you can obtain them from http://www2.freedomscientific.com/downloads/focus-40-blue/focus-40-14-blue-downloads.asp. Although this page only mentions the Focus Blue display, the drivers support all Freedom Scientific Focus and Pacmate displays. If your system is running 64 bit Windows and the drivers were already installed by another screen reader, you will probably still need to install the drivers from this link, as the files required by NVDA were probably not installed by the other screen reader.

By default, NVDA can automatically detect and connect to these displays either via USB or bluetooth. However, when configuring the display, you can explicitly select "USB" or "Bluetooth" ports to restrict the connection type to be used. This might be useful if you want to connect the focus display to NVDA using bluetooth, but still be able to charge it using USB power from your computer.

Re: Problem with Eloquence for windows

You need to contact whoever you got it from to get it reset or buy another copy I guess.

I think you were supposed to deactivate the software before you update then activate it again.

Hello List. Sky here. I have a problem with eloquence for windows. I
upgraded to windows spring update, and it went well, but when I restarted,
NVDA came up with SAPI 5 version of Eloquence, and it said, please register
this product. When I went to activate the product, I was told that all of my
licences had been activated. When I hit the deactivate button, I got an
error that says that your not connected to the internet, even though I am
connected to the internet. What can I do? I have a difficult time with one

Window-Eyes. Any help you could give me would be appreciated! Thanks, Sky.

There is a plugin for NVDA but I don't use it and I don't know what features it has.  But you can make a note of where you stopped and use it to
resume.

When you want to stop, pause Winamp with c.
Use control j to open the jump to time dialog.
You will be in a field showing the time where you have paused Winamp.

Don't move around in the field.
Just use control c to copy the ttime.
Now, stop play and close Winamp.
Open Winamp and paste the time into it.
Save it with whatever name you want.
When you want to resume playing, Open the file in Notepad.
Copy the time to the clipboard.
Now open the file you want to listen to in Winamp.  It's your choice whether to pause it now or leave it playing.
Open the time dialog with control j, the same command as before.
Paste the time in with control v and press enter.  You will now be at the time you left off.

This may sound a lot more cumbersome and time consuming than it is.

Hi Roger and all!

I installed Windows 10 1803 today as well.

It is the most snappy build of Win10 yet for me. I really like what they added in 1803 to the Windows defender. It installed without a hitch, and it works with NVDA.

Take care, everybody, I feel like a kid on Christmas LOL!

Enjoy the 1803 update!

Re: Problem with Eloquence for windows

And when you get your new keys, remember that if you do major updates
like this, switch synthesizers and deactivate Eloquence, then reactivate
it when it's done updating. You don't have to do it for every update,
just the big ones that change versions like this.

Hello List. Sky here. I have a problem with eloquence for windows.  I
upgraded to windows spring update, and it went well, but when I
restarted, NVDA came up with SAPI 5 version of Eloquence, and it
said, please register this product. When I went to activate the
product, I was told that all of my licences had been activated.  When
I hit the deactivate button, I got an error that says that your not
connected to the internet, even though I am connected to the
internet. What can I do? I have a difficult time with one core, and I
am familiar with Eloquence because I used it in JAWS and
Window-Eyes.  Any help you could give me would be appreciated!
Thanks, Sky.

Re: Does NVDA support bluetooth connection?

I believe your source of information may be incorrect. If your
computer supports Bluetooth that's all you need. It's not up to any
program to support Bluetooth it's your computer that needs to support
Bluetooth.

Hello NVDA Group mates! How are you?

I am a visually impaired person from Pakistan, with an MPhil qualification in mathematics and working as a college-level math teacher.

My question is, what level of support does the NVDA screen reader provide with Urdu, Persian, and Arabic texts?

Is it NVDA reliable enough for reading the Quran character by character, word by word, sentence by sentence, line by line, paragraph by paragraph, and using SayAll, just as it is possible to read through materials in the English language?

Can one read through the poems and ghazals of such Urdu poets as Iqbal and Ghalib with the help of the NVDA?

What additional software is needed, if any, for best results?

Regards.

Re: NVDA from bed

David Griffith

I am currently typing this with my legs elevated on a normal reclining chair purchased from Ikea about 10 years ago.

I am using an extended “Mechanical” keyboard on my lap connected to a PC by USB which is over to my right housed in a cupboard. I am receiving feedback through headpones connected via cable extension to this machine.

There is a monitor on top of the cupboard  over to my right connected as well but this is only ever turned on if there is an access issue  for which somebody else’s eyes are needed.

So essentially the vast majority of my work  and blogging on a PC is conducted just with this keyboard and my headphones and the majority of this time I also have my legs elevated because of medical advice.

Sadly I am having to do this at the age of 62 so I think you have done really well to only encounter this issue now.

This setup assumes you do not need to use sight and can rely on screen reading and or braille for feedback.

Hello,

because of problemds with my legs and feet (I'll be 82 in July.) I have to keep my fet elevated most of the time. I have

a hospital bed for that porpose. I'm loking for a small and light lapotop on which I could install NVDA and a ssh

program to access the Linux machines on my network. Which ssh program works best with NVDA? I am deaf-blind, so I will

be using a Focus 14 Braille display. I know

this works through USB. Can NVDA handle a bluetooth connection? The ssh program will be used to access my Linux

maschines. I will use the laptop for accessing my Twitter account with EasyChirp. It will be connected to my router

through wi-fi.

Thanks for any suggestions,

John
