Yes this is not the only bit of software broken by the latest windows version I'm hearing. One might have thought Microsoft would have preserved keys and reinstalled them after the update.

Hi Group,

I updated to version 18.03 just this morning.  The process took a little more than an hour.  Everything seems to be working just fine.  The only glitch was that for some reason, my default sound card for speech (which is separate from the system default) was reset to about 40% of volume rather than my usual 100%.  I changed that under sound manager and now everything is as before.

I installed Windows 10 1803 today as well.

It is the most snappy build of Win10 yet for me. I really like what they added in 1803 to the Windows defender. It installed without a hitch, and it works with NVDA.

Take care, everybody, I feel like a kid on Christmas LOL!

My two cents on it: I was able to remove Avast with the use of nvda and Braille display... It requires pressing remove button, which I did  using display braille; I did it about four months ago, so I suppose it is still possible.

Avast clean is not accessible, I think.

Are you shure there is not a UAC window open and awaiting alt+y to allow the update? I get a situation when updating NVDA where the update progress bar is merrily beeping away, getting nowhere, when a UAC window is open in the background. Re: Handy Tech Active Star 40: gets just recognized after switching to pc mode

Felix G.

Hi!
All right, I'm investigating. I guess the driver will just need to tell the device to switch to pc mode as soon as the display is being used. This is what our original implementation did, and the native one currently does not do.
It's very much a matter of taste, since pc mode is so easily invoked by pressing chord+p. Should we introduce one more automaticity, assuming the user would like to switch to pc mode, or should we leave this up to the user, requiring them to memorize one additional keypress?
All the best,
Felix

Hi Felix,

Well what it basically does is it shows usb-device selected on the display.
well the german version of it but that should be the same at your place.
when i select pc-mode works fine.
sometimes i need to restart nvda.

it also works fine when the start up mode is set to pc mode.
that also works.
but when its selected to main menu which is the default the display is just showing usb-device selected.

NVDA though shows in the log that the driver has found the device.

it just gets recognized when the start up mode is pc mode.
