I also cannot update.  What is the best way to uninstall my current NVDA and reinstall the current version, but still retain my settings and addons?  I would hate to start from scratch with settings and addons.

I probably should not have listened to this, but I did. it was an
explanation of the new sets feature of windows 10 in the next update.
They are talking about  having  program sets, that open in tabs on a single
window. IE programs opening inside the same window hence the name set,  you
switch between sets with alt tab, but between applications in a set with
shift tab, which could pose some issues for things already using these keys
I'd say. In other words its a bit like browsers do with tabs.
Now when I first came to Windows in 3.1, it had program groups withed many
programs inside one icon named a group. Obviously in those days the power to
have so much going on at the same time was just not there, but this does
seem to be going back to those days in a way.
So instead of just shortcuts in the groups, you keep the running session of
that software, almost like windows within windows.
Back in the old days, a program called Desqview tried to do this in Dos,
but once again the power was not there to really achieve this.
I'm not sure how all this will impact the key presses we are all now used
to like alt tab, and I guess if we do not want to make up sets, then there
will be no differences. However they have already started multiple virtual
desktops  and this seems to be on top of this. One might get very confused
unless the non power user or learner can revert things to default while one
tries to get used to things.

On top of that a lot of the functions seems to be going toward doing most
things in Edge, and using bing as the only search system in programs like
Notepad which is also being updated they say to make it more Linux like,
something I'm not familiar with.
Just listening gave me a headache!

Hi everyone,

As noted in at least one thread, NVDA snapshot builds won't update
currently if you are running Windows 10 insider build 17666. This is not
actually an issue with NVDA, but rather with how this build of Windows
handles administrative access (which is needed during the update process).
This issue affects installing or updating any program, as well as running a
program as administrator.

For those Windows insiders running an installed Next or Master build of
NVDA and wanting to update it (or install anything else or run any program
as administrator), you might consider downgrading to the previous insider
build until a new Insider build comes out.

If you have NVDA 2018.1.1 installed and run temporary copies of snapshot
builds, you should be ok. We trust that Microsoft will bring out new
Insider builds before NVDA 2018.2 is due out (and yes, it coming around to
that time. Expect to see a release candidate in just a few weeks time).

Kind regards

Quentin.

I am really liking the experience the more I use it. The mobile site in Edge has more you can do with Facebook, than IE offers with the same mobile site. Thanks, Gene!

Hi David

The last time i used it it was very easy and much like a web page if i remember right. It is much more stripped down than the main site. If i remember right there was a audio tutorial on the main face book with written material and on the end of the audio one was a look at the mobile version.  It would be good if you can write one then share it with the community.

Well waterfox is still an option.

Aparently mozilla still do develop classic addons so those will stay but
as for interfaces it will all go to esr.

As for chrome, I don't know.

With the security extentions I have active, some sites don't access and
chrome likes to block everything unless it thinks its not dangerous.

I will be staying with waterfox as long as it stays current.

A couple of questions. it says that in the US to start with, Pocket will
be used to run adverts. One assumes one can turn this off. I've never had
a use for it.
Also there is some talk of using wider displays intelligently, whatever
that means. So for those who have no display connected, what size of
display is used and what can nvda see?

I'm trying to decide whether to just keep an old firefox and go to
Chrome, or to try to learn the use with no sound prompts.
Also I notice the read mode discussion for nvda reading the page without
clutter, but according to what I hear, the read command in firefox for
decluttering is now F9, which is changed I think. Also some settings have
been moved.

Well, I have problems with 59, so I'm back on 52, quite why some of us hate it but everyone else is happy obviously needs to be investigated. Could be almost anything video drivers, speed of processor goodness knows what else, but in Windows 7, I absolutely hated it. it would hang and mess about glitching the sound and all sorts in windows 7.
I think the answer might be to migrate to Chrome or Waterfox at least for now from what I've read on this nvda list.
Obviously something is playing up, but its a pig to find what it might be I suspect.

Subject: [nvda] Firefox Slowness in Windows 10

HI, everyone. I apologize in advance if this gets cross-posted to a bunch of lists. I know some people don't like that since it can make it harder to reply if you're not on all of the lists. I'm trying out the mailing lists feature in Mozilla Thunderbird for the first time. I'm just curious if anyone else has problems with Mozilla Firefox. I'm not talking about the extended support release that some people use. This is about newer releases and pre-release builds. I'm using Firefox on Windows 10 with NVDA, and for some reason, it seems to be very slow and hangs or freezes all the time. I've experienced this with the stable, beta, and nightly versions. All of them seem to be slow. I haven't found one that's better than others, and it doesn't matter whether I'm using add-ons or not. It's the same even if I disable all add-ons temporarily. Does anyone else have problems with Firefox being slow? Do you have any suggestions on how I could speed it up? Thanks.

I am guessing from your log that the only way you can get round this is to uninstall your current copy of NVDA and to reinstall it from scratch.

Hello, folks. There is a pretty serious issue with NVDA now. I cannot upgrade to the latest next version. Even if I download it, it just sits there. No upgrade happens. This has happened since I upgraded to Windows 10 1803.

Apparently, people who have other versions of Windows are having the same issue. I would say that this is critical. This has been the issue for a few days.

Toast notifications no longer being spoken

Roger Stewart

I've been noticing that since the change to Win 10 1803 that toast notifications are no longer being spoken by nvda.  Anyone know if a fix is on the way?
