Steve, may I ask if you're running NVDA as portable? Truthfully, I
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
personally cannot replicate any of the problems you're having w/my Windows 10, latest build,. Can you tell us: 1) How are your views set? 2) What details do you have enabled? 3) Is your File Explorer maximized? I do know that portable NVDA just does not read lists as well as when it's actually installed. I don't know if this is because it's better able to hook into various machine processes or what, but that is something my experience has definitively shown me. I really hope we can help you get this solved, because it does seem that many of us don't share this experience, so I suspect it may be something unique to your setup that can be rectified. Keep plugging, & we'll hang in there w/you till we get to the bottom of it all.

Another thought, now nvda is capable of getting usage data from the users, does it allow folk to see, for example that one user is using Speech player in espeak and what variant they use etc, or is it just what synth is set as default?

Not strictly true, they are going to charge an arm and a leg for every user that third party clients has. I guess its academic as it amounts to the same thing in the end. Are twitter feeling the pinch in their profits?

I just close file explorer and reopen it when it starts acting funky. either that, or I shut down NVDA and restart it. Alternatively, I can sit here and stare at the computer for a few minutes, until it decides to behave itself, which it does eventually do. It has to be an NVDA thing, though, because it doesn't do this with System Access at all. I have trouble alt tabbing between windows when it wants to act up, and then I have trouble going through list items. It's like the cursor doesn't want to move through them but it actually does; it's just NVDA isn't reading me the items. I also find that if I have more than, say, two or three windows open and I close one of them, it starts working fine again. It's random, though, so I never know when it's going to misbehave. It's not aggravating enough to make me switch screen readers, though. I just figure it'll be fixed in a future update and go with it. Annette

twitter is not charging for api usage, as a whole, it's only charging for certain aspects of the api, which will (at most) limit functionality of third party twitter clients, not make them unusable. According to the site I read, it's mostly related to realtime interactions, and refresh times of tweets, that's all. Your twitter clients aren't going to magically stop working, they just won't update instantly anymore. Personally, I don't find this to be a problem in the least, but that's just me.

Hi!

Judging from what I have heard recently, third party client developers having to pay exorbitant fees to use the new Twitter API is only part of the story. I gather that third party Twitter clients should still work after 16 August, but, as the new Twitter API replaces the streaming API we've had for some years now, not having the new API in third party clients means that they will no longer be able to stream tweets: in npractice, this simply means that users will have to wait longer for tweets to come in, which was the case when I joined Twitter in 2009 anyway, so it's not a big deal-breaker for me. As for Twitter with NVDA, to get back to the subject of this list, I do not know, as a Windows 7 user, whether the Windows 10 Twitter UWP app works well with NVDA, but NVDA users should still be able to use the currently accessible third party Twitter clients after 16 August, but without streaming of tweets, if I understand right. So there may not be a monopoly on Twitter after all. I hope this reassures anyone on this list who uses third party accessible Twitter clients at least a bit! Bye for now! From Clare

You mentioned not being sure if it was the keyboard, if you run your slideshow, and turn input help on (NVDA+1), then press control+shift+s, it should read "ctrl+shift+s Toggles between reporting the speaker notes or the actual slide content. This does not change what is visible on-screen, but only what the user can read with NVDA"
