It's not just on wikipedia, it happens on other web pages too. I thought it was just an artifact of the way the page was laid out, I didn't think it was an NVDA problem, but it certainly could be. No idea what would caus it though.

Strange behaviour of NVDA on Wikipedia
Morne van der Merwe
Hello list,
Please bare with me. I am going to explain my problem as best as I can.
I’m running the latest version of NVDA as well as Windows 10.
When I’m reading about a country on Wikipedia, NVDA read the information and, when reading the next part of information, NVDA adds the previous information as well. And before reading the next information, it repeats the previous information. I’m going to give an example.
Currently I have “Germany” open in Wikkippedia. NVDA reads “Federal republic of Germany, Bundesrepublik Deutschland.”
Then I arrow down to the next piece of informationwhich is the information about the capital and largest city. I hear the following information: “Capital and largest city. Federal Republic of Deutschland, Bundesrepublik Deutschland Berlin.” So, I get to the next piece of information, but I hear the previous piece of information again.
Well, I really hope I explained my problem sufficient enough to get some help.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards Morné

I agree. While certain settings may affect
this problem, I doubt that most of them do, and not all are appropriate for all
computers, such as the resolution. But the reason I'm doubtful that any
settings changes will help is because this is a new problem after the latest
Windows update. It sounds to me like a UIA automation problem, which isn't
user correctable.

Most people won't pay, regardless and only those
who pay may get more confidentiality.
I haven't looked into this, but I think this is
being done to discourage people from using third party clients, which, I
suspect, don't show advertising. So I doubt a paid service is coming and I
suspect this is just to cause more people to receive ads.

Hi Steve,
I am wondering about what settings you have for the File Explorer. I have noticed that with some settings in Windows/file explorer since Windows 7, that it doesn't interface well with screen readers. In particular, if you have under the view menu extra large icons or grid or something other than list or details checked, you will have problems. First check the view menu to see that either list or details is checked.
Also make sure that everything under the group by sub menu is unchecked. If anything is checked under that menu, it can result in sluggishness and odd behavior.
Also under the graphics options sub menu there are sub menus.
Under the panel options only the display scaling is checked. Under
the resolution sub menu 1024 X 768 is checked. Under the rotaton
sub menu, rotate to 0 degrees is checked. Under the hotkeys and tray icons sub menu, they are both enabled.
Check out these settings and make them conform to the suggestions above and see if that helps with your file explorer issues.

Hi Jackie,
Steve, may I ask if you're running NVDA as portable? Truthfully, I personally cannot replicate any of the problems you're having w/my Windows 10, latest build,. Can you tell us: Firstly, I am not running as portable on the machines tested. 1) How are your views set? Details, This PC by default, no Preview Payne, no Navigation Payne. 2) What details do you have enabled? All of them I think. 3) Is your File Explorer maximized? Yes. I even tried Windows+Up Arrow to make sure it was. I do know that portable NVDA just does not read lists as well as when it's actually installed. I don't know if this is because it's better able to hook into various machine processes or what, but that is something my experience has definitively shown me. Well I haven't found portable to be any worse for me thus far, but now, Explorer is completely unusable on all my machines. When you enter a folder, it reads out the first file name, but from then on, it is silent. All the best Steve
