Giles: In Windows 10, the easiest way to get to personalize
settings is to press WINDOWS-KEY+I, TAB in to the list of options,
choose personalization, press ENTER there and choose themes. From
there, choose related settings desktop icons and check the items
you want. If you ever need to deselect anything on the desktop
CONTROL+SPACE-BAR will do that.

Hello, Giles. Yes there is. To do so, you'll need to use NVDA's object

selecting the desktop
Hi all,
is there a way to right click on the desktop in the way you can with a mouse, not selecting any specific item? I want to get 'personalise' in the desktop context menu so that I can add 'This Computer' as a desktop shortcut. I can't figure out any way to not have an icon selected using NVDA, which means I don't get personalise as a context menu option. I'd be grateful for any ideas or alternative ways of configuring Windows to put the This Computer icon onto the desktop. Using Win10 and NVDA 2018.1 Thnks, Giles

what's with cortana
ken lawrence
Hi list have been noticing something strange about cortana the last couple days. When I ask it to give me the weather instead of cortana coming up with a search result it says an app or a site called dark skys might be able to help would I like to access it? What is wrong with whatever cortana used to get the weather? Is it down? It doesn’t happen all the time. Very very strange. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm actually one of the few that do, and I recycle messages that people write including ones I've written to make things easier.

But first log onto github, find the nvda repo if you are subscribed to it, then click issues and then click new issues and follow the prompts. Upload any logs you need to upload there.

To the original question at hand: you need a GitHub account in order to post bug reports. Typically, one would sign up for GitHub, then go to https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/new and fill out the form there. I will cover this in more detail during NVDACon 2018. Cheers, Joseph

After all, someone wanting to report a bug might not already be a list member, and someone who is a list member but has forgotten how to report a bug might need to do so the day before the reminder gets sent out, and I'm sure many people here don't keep a personal archive of list messages just in case they happen to come in handy several weeks later. Bug Reporting for NVDA - Do Step-by-Step Instructions Exist?
I know that at sometime in the past I've asked about "the official procedure" for reporting bugs to the developers of NVDA and also seem to remember it's done through Github. What I don't have, either in my head or in my collection of records, is a set of specific instructions for exactly what the process is.
If anyone has them, could you post them? To the group moderator, if someone has them and posts them, could consideration be given to making them a regular cyclic posting, say, once per quarter? -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. Hi.
There's an add on that'll give you a lot more functionality in the meantime. It's located in NVDA's official add-ons list, which you can get to with the get more add ons button in the add ons dialogue of NVDA itself.

Sound Oddity With NVDA And Release Of Windows 10 18.03
Ron Canazzi
Hi Group,
Actually, I'm not sure if this is a sound oddity or perhaps a tool tip issue of some sort. From time to time, what happens is the reading of documents by NVDA stops and after a few seconds, if I press NVDA + T to read the title bar, I hear DWN. After a few seconds, NVDA resumes normal operation. What could be causing this and how can it be rectified? Thanks for any help. -- They Ask Me If I'm Happy; I say Yes. They ask: "How Happy are You?" NVDA and orbit reader20

Hi The latest batch of orbit reader20 devices at least for me is working quite good so far with NVDA. Perhaps though, in a future update, there could be more NVDA braille commands to completely control the computer using the braille keyboard I hope.

I think contextual help would be quite a big thing to implement as it would need a whole new file which is translatable in every sort of dialogue you go to in nvda.

I have not often found these very helpful elsewhere, but that might be just me. Most of the descriptions are short and not often covering the specific query you have as such. Brian bglists@...
