I would only suggest it if there is a feature or features in Windows 10 you want or if there are features in new versions of NVDA you want.

Hi,
This message is for Windows 7 users.

You will not receive NVDA 2018.2
2017.4 is the last version you'll get.
I'd highly suggest upgrading to Windows 10.

Re: For windows 7 users

Hey,

I was wondering, is it possible that when NV Access blocked the NVDA 2018.1.1 update for non-Windows 10 users, they accidentally blocked the update to 2018.2 too?

Sincerely,
Artin Dekker

Hi,

For now Windows 10 App Essentials won’t be listed under new Settings screen.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi Joseph,

I misunderstood the original message. I thought I was suppose to find this Golden Cursor in the nvda settings categories list, and that 3.0 would be downloadable that way. But I  didn't have 3.0 yet, so I had to go into the tools, ad-ons and get it to update, and now Golden Cursor shows up in the categories listing. Windows 10 app essentials does not, and I did check and I do have the latest version with the suffix A that you mentioned in another message.

In about half an hour from now, you’ll be able to download three add-on releases that’ll (absolutely) require NVDA 2018.2 or later:

  • Enhanced Touch Gestures 18.06: add-on settings can be found in new multi-category NVDA Settings under “Enhanced Touch Gestures” category.
  • Golden Cursor 3.0: same as above but the category to look for is “Golden Cursor”.
  • Windows 10 App Essentials: version 18.06 stable is now available to everyone. For those using 18.05.3, you’ll have until June 20, 2018 to update to 18.06, by which time the temporary update channel will be gone along with release of 18.06.1.

Also, for those using Windows 10 App Essentials development snapshots: regular and pilot builds are now united. This means, going forward, anyone wishing to use development snapshots MUST be running NVDA 2018.2 stable or later. Also, you’ll need to be running Windows 10 Version 1709 (build 16299) or later in order to receive future add-on builds.

Cheers,

Hi,

Thank you for opening the topic.

When I try to update it from the help menu, it reports that the update is not available.

I use Windows 7, 64bit, ultimate with SP1. May I update it from the download page?

I won't do that until I've got a message that the coast is clear as to the update issue.

Indeed, I believe there is a problem so that win7 users are not able to update over the help menu in the update section.
However you can do the upgrade from the nvaccess website and do it manually.
As I write now I am a win7 sp1 user with all update and working fine with nvda 2018.2.
But I do not understand why people here are spreading rumors that 2017.4 was the last version for win7 users.
The only thing I admit is that somewhere NVACCESS had a problem including the upgrade into the help menu i.e. that is the case for my system but please do the upgrade manually and the update process is just working fine then.
I am very satisfied with the hard work for this new version.

Except for if you are on a workstation where you do not have access to upgrade to Windows 10, given your message, then you should use NVDA 2017.4.

Hi,
This message is for Windows 7 users.

You will not receive NVDA 2018.2
2017.4 is the last version you'll get.
I'd highly suggest upgrading to Windows 10.

OK I tried to update to NVDA 2018.2 and got the message that said failed to update. I’m going to manually have to download off the NV Access site. Is anyone experiencing this by checking for updates via NVDA?

Re: For windows 7 users

Hmmm nvda updated just fine on my windows 7x64 box, I had to manually get it for the 32 bit desktop I have here because it wouldn't.

Hi,

Never mind about my “burrito” comment.

Looking at the log, I don’t see errors regarding update check problems.

Administrative privileges.

Hi Group,

I am trying to assign shortcut keys to icons on the desktop, but it
won't go through as I am told I have no administrative privileges.
Using NVDA how do I get administrative privilege on my computer?
Your response will be greatly appreciated.
