OCR Add-On & Incompatibility with Win10 & NVDA 2017.3 and later
I had added this to NVDA a long while back to play with it, but had forgotten entirely that I'd done so. Today, when I went to play around with another add on and was reviewing my existing ones I noticed that the OCR add-on page states, "Important: if you are using NVDA 2017.3 or later on Windows 10, please disable this add-on." Its continued presence may have been messing with Virtual Review, as I could get nothing from Virtual Review until I removed OCR.
The above being said, I can't imagine I'm the only person who might have installed an add-on such as this and lost that fact to the mists of memory. I am just wondering if the add-on itself, or the NVDA Add-On manager, has some way of being context sensitive and checking what OS environment it's operating under and giving a message if an add-on should be disabled or removed in that operating environment. It is pure chance that I happened to catch this. It seems to me that there really should be a way that, at the very least, the add-on itself would be sensitive to its OS environment and give a warning if it's being run under an OS version with which its operation is incompatible. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. opening big pdf files adobe reader
Josh Kennedy <joshknnd1982@...>
Hi, Is this a bug in NVDA? When I open a pdf, like a really big 2mb pdf file. Nvda says, pdf name, avg page view. Then it sits there forever while it tries to open the pdf. Do I have adobe reader or NVDA set wrong that it takes forever to open pdf files?

Re: NVDA not speaking my images

Also, the WEB-AIM mailing list or the A11Y Sslack channel both have numerous Accessibility professionals on list, there are probably folks on that list that can respond directly. I believe I did see some discussion of wrapping SVG in a div with role="image" and then labeling the div. I can't remember if the label has to be with an aria-label / aria-labeledby attribute or if you can use the alt attribute.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Some memories indicate to me that you should add an id to the title within the SVG and then use the aria-labeledby attribute to point to that id. Sorry I don't have time to research my notes on SVG today. I'm new to NVDA but am committed to developing websites that are fully accessible. I used a custom font with svg logos I uploaded to the font. I have used every tag I know about but NVDA doesn't read them. If I highlight the same area on my iPhone and ask it to speak my selection if speaks the information about the image. I'm hoping you can give me some guidance about what I need to add to the code or perhaps a perhaps a setting to change in NVDA. I made a screen print that shows the area and the code behind it. I believe this will give you all the information you would need to help me. The screen print is at: https://sandiego-autodetail.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/NVDA-reader-question.png I also record my iPhone speaking the information and have loaded that short video here: https://sandiego-autodetail.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/iPhone-speaks-the-image-info.MOV Let me know if you need any additional information. Rock,
Type control-shift-A in firefox to bring up the addons manager. Hit F until you get to the search field. Enter axe in the search field and hit enter. After hitting tab a few times you should find: aXe Developer Tools Thursday, June 14, 2018 Add accessibility auditing to the Firefox Developer Tools More Release Notes: Loading… Install At this point bring up the contextual menu with either shift-F10 or the Applications key. The second item should be install. This will then prompt you with a license agreement and a accept and install button. I believe the rest should be straight forward. I suddenly thought to try Internet Explorer and the sales page worked much better with that so my item is now listed. I will attempt to list it on Blind Bargains too, thanks for that suggestion :) Giles

if you have one available, you could try the ebay
app on either iPhone or android. I have been telling ebay for some time about
there lack of accessibility on there selling page, but they are simply not
interested in doing anything about it.
my best bit of advice however, would be don't even
bother with ebay, use a different platform, such as shpock or gumtree, or
in-fact any other trading platform that doesn't charge you 10% and then another
4% for using paypal, and all that to be part of a system that lets buyers take
the waste liquid as much as they like, and gives sellers no rights at all, which
is exactly what the ebay system does!

selling an item on eBay
Hi all,
I regularly buy items from eBay and, in my sighted days, occasionally sold things too. The other day I noticed a pair of Orcam MyEye talking OCR glasses that sold and, since I have a pair that I would like to sell, used the "Have one to sell? Sell it yourself" link. I am not finding the page for entering the details for my item very easy to navigate! I can add the photos and I can enter the description of the item, but navigating, with both tab key or num pad object navigation, repeatedly takes me back to the item description pane. Does anybody have any suggestions to make listing an item easier with NVDA? I'm using Firefox 60, NVDA 2018.2 and Win10 Thanks for any tips, Giles

Most likely they have set up buttons using CSS graphics. Though there are a few other ways this can happen. Generally it won't matter which screen reader they look at the sight with the graphics will probably appear the same. an issue about the NVDA 2018.2 and instent translate addon
Mert Anlar
Hi fokes
since I installed the NVDA 2018.2 update, I cannot use the Instent translate addon. setting up it's shortcuts, and also the languages, for example, from En to TR, but it automatically sets from auto to TR and, until I restart the NVDA, it doesn't allows me to open any NVDA dialog box. i'm getting the following error. An NVDA settings dialog is already open. Please close it first. note that using the latest instent translate dev 4.1 here is the log ERROR - unhandled exception (15:41:23.148): Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Users\Mert\AppData\Roaming\nvda\addons\instantTranslate\globalPlugins\instantTranslate\interface.py", line 106, in onOk File "wx\_core.pyo", line 16711, in __getattr__ PyDeadObjectError: The C++ part of the Choice object has been deleted, attribute access no longer allowed.

Bug in 2018 Braille
John J. Boyer
Hello,
Using the U.S. Grade 2 table and NVDA 2018.2 I have observed the following. When a word begins with a capital letter both the dot 6 capital sign and the dot 7 on the letter itself are shown. This does not happen if the letter is part of a contraction. For eexample, If the word is Tooth dot 6 preceeds the translation and the beginning t also has dot 7. If the word is That the translation has dot 6 poreceding thr T that contracts that, and the T has no dot 7. This version of NVDA uses liblouis 2.4. The latest release is liblouis 2/6/0. Hopefully the bug has been corrected in this release. Thanks, John -- John J.
