You can use control, alt, and shift as key modifiers for the shortcut to launch the program.  I use alt-control-N for NVDA, and alt-control.shift-n for Narrator.

I think you can only use alt + ctrl + a letter like J for jaws or
another letter.

Make sure you save the settings.

You can check if there are any other accounts by pressing Windows+i to open
Settings, then press enter on Accounts. Tab to the list of topics and arrow
down to Family and other people and press enter. Tab to the list of other
account names and types on the machine and see if there is a user account
with administrator privilidges. If there is, get the person to log on using
that account, then they could use this settings process to edit your account
details and change it from standard to administrator.

administrator would it change to that?

I would have thought you should be able to assign shortcuts as these are
personal to your account and don't affect other users, so should not

would be unlikely.

As Brian asked, is your user account standard or administrator? Could
you

The process I would use to assign a shortcut key is:
Select desktop icon
Press alt+enter to open properties
Tab to the shortcut key control and press the shortcut letter alone, the
CTRL+Alt part of the command is added automatically by Windows
Tab to OK and press enter.

If you get an error after pressing OK, please give full details

Anyone else have this issue with firefox 52ESR and NVDA 2018.2? I always have to manually refresh using nvda+f5. so it definitely isn't a browser issue.

Re: For chrome users.

You might have to use another browser for downloads and Chrome for most of whatever else you do.  I doubt you can stop this.  You could try turning report dynamic content changes off, NVDA key f5.  That toggles it on and off.  But I haven't found this command generally helpful in such situations.

I don't use Chrome much and I haven't tried to solve the problem myself.  But I'm telling you what you might try and my pessimism about dynamic content changes based on past experience in other contexts.

Hi, Marilyn,

I think you should be able to go to the "check for updates" and you'll find out if you canupdate your version of NVDA. If not, you'll have to do it through the nv access site which is nvaccess.org.

To find out what version of NVDA you're running, hit the insert key and N to go to the menu. Then arrow down to the help menu and open it with the right arrow. Arrow down to "about" and hit enter on it. You'll hear whart version you're running.

Hope this helps.

Re: for Windows 7 users Re: [nvda] NVDA 2018.2 is now available!

Hi Marilyn,

NVDA updates are not cumulative, so you can always download the latest version and run or install it regardless of whether you have any previous version or not.  If you do have an existing install of NVDA, it will copy the settings over when you install a new version.

The NVDA key will be either INSERT or CAPS LOCK:

To find which version of NVDA you have, press NVDA+N to open the NVDA menu, then H for help, then A for about (it's the bottom item in the help menu).

NVDA 2018.2 is the current version which came out a couple of days ago.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Thank you, Jonathan and Brian for your responses.  Geez, i can be a dope.  I understand it would be very difficult to diagnose the issue if you couldn't see where it skips.  The image i sent was also not very helpful then.  I should have at least cut and copied the code.  My apologies for that over-site.

Also, the WEB-AIM mailing list or the A11Y Sslack channel both have numerous Accessibility professionals on list, there are probably folks on that list that can respond directly. I believe I did see some discussion of wrapping SVG in a div with role="image" and then labeling the div. I can't remember if the label has to be with an aria-label / aria-labeledby attribute  or if you can use the alt attribute.

Some memories indicate to me that you should add an id to the title within the SVG and then use the aria-labeledby attribute to point to that id.

Sorry I don't have time to research my notes on SVG today.

if you have one available, you could try the ebay app on either iPhone
or android. I have been telling ebay for some time about there lack of
accessibility on there selling page, but they are simply not
interested in doing anything about it.
my best bit of advice however, would be don't even bother with ebay,
use a different platform, such as shpock or gumtree, or in-fact any
other trading platform that doesn't charge you 10% and then another 4%
for using paypal, and all that to be part of a system that lets buyers
take the waste liquid as much as they like, and gives sellers no
rights at all, which is exactly what the ebay system does!

Hi all,

I regularly buy items from eBay and, in my sighted days, occasionally
sold things too. The other day I noticed a pair of Orcam MyEye talking
OCR glasses that sold and, since I have a pair that I would like to
sell, used the "Have one to sell? Sell it yourself" link.

I am not finding the page for entering the details for my item very
easy to navigate! I can add the photos and I can enter the description
of the item, but navigating, with both tab key or num pad object
navigation, repeatedly takes me back to the item description pane.

Does anybody have any suggestions to make listing an item easier with
NVDA?

I'm using Firefox 60, NVDA 2018.2 and Win10

Thanks for any tips,

Giles

with the way they treat sellers like garbage, and between them and paypal,
charge them 14% for that sort of treatment, I'm not surprised. the problem
is that they have got far too big for there boots, and only something like a
major international boycott of them may get them to take notice of the ever
growing number who are not happy with the way they carry on.

Hi

If it is just asigning the shortcut after you have gone into the
properties tab down to shortcut and asign one.

I think you can only use alt + ctrl + a letter like J for jaws or
another letter.

Make sure you save the settings.

Only an administrator account can change a standard account to an
administrator account. That is why I asked if there are any other accounts

you details of a different method of solving the problem.

Cheers

Chris, yes, I get an error message saying I need to have administrator
permission. My operating system is Windows 10. I believe I have
standard user account. I tried to change user account and typed my
name and I was told that user account already exists. If I type
administrator would it change to that?

Hi Nevzat
I would have thought you should be able to assign shortcuts as these are
personal to your account and don't affect other users, so should not
require
admin priviledges. If you are using a work computer it maybe that a
corporate group policy is in effect which denies the capability but this
would be unlikely.

As Brian asked, is your user account standard or administrator? Could
you
give us more information, such as operating system being used, work or
home
computer, is yours the only account on the computer etc.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Group,

I am trying to assign shortcut keys to icons on the desktop, but it
won't go through as I am told I have no administrative privileges.
Using NVDA how do I get administrative privilege on my computer?
Your response will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I have been an NVDA user for a long time. I think it's great.

I am out of work. Recently my resume was updated but I can't open the
file to read it.

Is there a way using specific commands after clicking on the attachment
to open it and read it? In other words, if I use the arrow keys or tab
through the document, how do I get to access the attachment?

Is there any information about this on www.accessibilitycentral.net?

Thank you for a great screen reader, website and support group.

What you can do if you really need this add on, if say you are a windows 7 user like myself, is add it to an older version of nvda running portably. then when you do find a problem you need it for, simply launch the old portable version.

I wonder if this add on is even necessary anymore since Win 10 has this
ability built in and later versions of nvda are fixed to take advantage
of this.

Add-On manager, has some way of being context sensitive and checking
what OS environment it's operating under and giving a message if an
add-on should be disabled or removed in that operating environment.

It is pure chance that I happened to catch this. It seems to me that
there really should be a way that, at the very least, the add-on
itself would be sensitive to its OS environment and give a warning if
it's being run under an OS version with which its operation is
incompatible.
