Hi Nevzat
Glad you got it sorted. You obviously have admin privilidges as you were able to install software, so as Sarah says, It must have been a glitch with your machine, possibly as a result of the latest update.

Anyway, looks like I solved the problem. When I assigned the shortcut
key I pressed enter and it gave me the same error message saying I
needed to have administrative permission and asked me to continue to
fix the problem. So I pressed continue and again went through the
procedure of assigning the shortcut key for JAWS. I type j and pressed
enter and it went through. I unloaded JAWS and restarted it by using
the shortcut combination and to my surprise it worked!

If it is just asigning the shortcut after you have gone into the
properties tab down to shortcut and asign one.

I think you can only use alt + ctrl + a letter like J for jaws or
another letter.

Make sure you save the settings.

what happens if you use the -r flag when issuing the nvda command from the Run dialog? If it does restart can you then verify the synth has been changed? Also, paste your log privately to one of the nvda Developers.

I know I've come across this before but I just can't recall the solution.  I've got a PDF file which when I read it, parts of it read with no spaces between words (ditto copying the text out or saving to a text file).

It is something to do with how Adobe Reader interprets the spaces in files created with certain other products, but what I can't remember, is how do I fix it, please?

If it's an IMAP or Microsoft Exchange account, you can probably just delete
your *.ost files. Mine are found in the user profile folder, under
AppData\local\Microsoft\Outlook. You need to close Outlook before deleting
the files.

When you start Outlook again, it will retrieve the messages from the server

Re: Activating the BrailleEnhancer

In the BrailleExtender preferences, you can configure the list of output
tables between which you want to switch. Then, use the command documented in
the BrailleExtender help for your specific display to switch between the
configured output tables.

The configuration dialog shows the tables that are in the switch, and those
which are not, allowing you to add and remove tables from the switch.

If this overview doesn't solve your problem, let me know what's confusing
and I'll enter into more detail.

it will depend on your operating system what the add/remove section is called for programs.

You will need to locate nvda in that list and uninstall it .

Then close that screen with the alt key + f4 key.

Next use the windows key + letter R to bring up the run dialogue and type in the following %appdata% then press the enter key.

it will give you a list of folders i think it is called in the roaming folder.

Locate the nvda folder and delete it

Close that screen with the alt key + f4 key.

But before you do that make sure you have a good working copy of nvda that you can use. Just to be on the safe side i usually grab the latest copy from nvaccess.

After the steps have been done you can then reinstall nvda to your computer.

I do have directions some where on my website that says what to do.

Then when it cam up with a dong noise as obviously nvda was not installed fully, I ran a portable copy from another folder, then I manually removed the exe files from the nvda folder in program files (x86) and reran the update file and  boom all is well.
As has been said before often if there is something on the machine which screws up an install, say a file that needs to be deleted but is not from an older copy, then all sorts of random things happen.
Its seldom the end of the world. Moral, when you are happy with a working version of nvda. Create a portable version in another folder on your hard drive, go there with explorer and create a shortcut to the  main exe file or use a batch file in that folder and make a shortcut to that. I published my batch file a day or so back as it makes sure any running copy of nvda shuts down before running it again from the portable version.

Hi everyone,

I know I've come across this before but I just can't recall the solution. I've got a PDF file which when I read it, parts of it read with no spaces between words (ditto copying the text out or saving to a text file).

It is something to do with how Adobe Reader interprets the spaces in files created with certain other products, but what I can't remember, is how do I fix it, please?

Regards

Quentin.

Re: Dropbox innaccessibility again

I am on windows 10, and the latest version of DropBox reads fine for me when I share a folder and when I accept a folder invite. When I accepted a folder invite I did not have to accept any captures. :) And yes, I know how to spell captcha's but I just wanted to piss some people in this thread off. :) I'm not sure why the captcha's are appearing. I've been trying to find a decent accessibility contact all morning. My emails to other departments are opened, but not replied to. I generally don't write to general email addresses in cases like this. I have yet to get a decent reply from anybody over there so does anybody have any contacts?

I should add that I might not have commented on this topic, but I am a moderator and part of my job is to maintain civility on the list.  I, therefore, discussed the matter.

When I first saw Lino's message, I thought the matter was a different interpretation of what is wanted.  Instead of making assumptions about someone's motivation and writing nasty messages, perhaps at first, the subject should be approached civilly and with the possibility in mind that the problem may not be what it seems.  I didn't look at the original message carefully but I thought the intention was to use one voice in NVDA for speak to end on the Internet when using NVDA and not use that voice elsewhere.

Thus, the discussion of profiles and the instructions thought to be convoluted.  They were discussing how to do something different than in your message, Lino.

and even if the instructions were more complex than necessary, which I didn't check, there are ways to point it out without attacking, almost flaming someone.  If it were stated something like, your instructions are far more complex than necessary to address the problem.  You often write unnecessarily complex instructions.  and then present what you think is better, that makes the point without an almost personal attack.

Note that I am not saying this is the case.  I'm illustrating how to make a point without an attack.

Also, since Brian doesn't use Windows 10, this may have led to the different interpretation.  Speak to end may have been addressed when Read Alout was intended.

I don't think it was really clear what exactly he wanted to do though.

To Brian first of all do you really have to put out instructions the average
user can’t follow sir? Not everybody is a techie freak like you sir. To
Gary. To change the voices in Red Aloud in Edge hit alt X then press enter
on Read Aloud. Next tab to the button that says change voices. Their how
simple is that?

Re: NVDA And Avast Free Anti Virus

Gene

Turning off self-defense allows NVDA to see the available information on screen.  It does nothing aside from that to improve accessibility.  Using JAWS with self-protection on or off, doesn't change what JAWS sees and, with self-protection on, the program is better protected from attack.

If I needed access beyond the time a JAWS demo runs, since that is what I use now and then, if necessary or desirable, I would turn self-defense off and use NVDA for the that operation, such as a scan, then turn it on afterwards and use the JAWS demo with the program.

Hi,

Yes, the very registration of the product was a nightmare for me, too. I
did it, but, I do not know how. As for semi-accessibility, you're
supposed to turn the self-defence off, although Avast does not recommend
the end user to. Why am I saying semi-accessibility? Because Avast has
never been fully accessible as far as screen readers (Jaws and NVDA) are
concerned

Re: PDF file missing spaces

Gene

I don't know if the problem can be corrected with Adobe itself.  You might try PDF2TXT, a small almost utility instead of being a program and see if that corrects it.  I've had lots of trouble using the current one but I think I still have the installation file for the older one, which I find works better on a lot of P
DF files.  Or, using OCR such as available in Openbook, Kurzweil, Fine Reader, and I would think other OCR programs might solve the problem.
