The manual installation successful
Dejan Ristic
I've just picked up the latest (2018.2.1) version of NVDA to check whether I won't fail while updating through the check for updates in the help menu. It failed when the secure screen appeared. I tried to bring up Narrator to see whether I can do anything, but to no avail. It was certain that my machine got stuck in the mud. That's why I am unable to provide you with some debugging log information. It was good that the manual installation was a success.

\Devlearning request: tech support engineers
Hi all,
As part of their final exam, people on Devlearning subgroup who learned NVDA development basics and internals are asked to subscribe here and interact with you in at least three separate topic areas for the next few days. Once the final exam is over (on June 23, 2018), I’d like to ask feedback regarding how these students did in interacting with you as tech support engineers.
Thank you. Cheers, Joseph

You don't need to send it to anyone to know if the pic was saved successfully. When you're going to save the pic just press tab until you hear NVDA saying the file's type. If it's JPG or something like this, then you did all right and now it's just save the pic on the place you'd like. :) Em 17/06/2018 15:48, Danni escreveu:

Hi, Quentin thanks for the confirmation so basically this is just
a new prompts dialog added to the master snapshot. 😊

I believe so , as far with the last statement mentioned of
Quentin which I never saught this prompt dialog, in the previously
version of the master snapshot and that is I just wanted to
confirm. Actually, I was having a thought that is a new features
added once you run update of the master snapshot but more or less
its fine for me as long as nothing to be transmit.beyond aside of
the data activity of nvda.

Re: How can I set nvda to read column and row when use equal to select
Quentin Christensen
It doesn't read automatically at the moment, though it would be useful if it did. I have created an issue on our tracker for it: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/8411 I also documented a couple of workarounds there (namely, read current line at any point to read the selection, or set focus moves navigator object off, and read the current review line). Kind regards Quentin.

Re: earlier master snapshot concerned
Gene
Is this to comply with the new EEU law? It's
probably referring to what has been collected for a long time, information on
how often it is used on the machine.

Re: recommendation for ms office equivalent

I have not tried LibreOffice, but my understanding is: Libree is more frequently updated, but still has some accessibility barriers that Openoffice does not. I know someone involved somehow in the LibreOffice project was posting on this list sometime not long ago, so perhaps he will chime in. I thought of giving Libre a spin anyway, but really, both Libre and Open do the same things and have almost exactly the same functionality, so I didn’t think there was really any advantage in having them both around.

Shouldn’t you use Libre Office instead of OpenOffice? From what I understand, OpenOffice is not supported, but LibreOffice is.

Re: earlier master snapshot concerned
Quentin Christensen
Hi Robert, The information is the same as we have collected previously, as the dialog indicates, OS and NVDA version, language used, country, synthesizer, Braille diaplsy and table, This information is collected when NVDA checks for updates. Nothing secure or private is ever transmitted, no spoken content or anything like that is shared. Prompted by the new privacy regulations in the EU, we wanted to be as open about what data we collect as possible. For anyone interested, the dialog reads: "In order to improve NVDA in the future, NV Access wishes to collect usage data from running copies of NVDA. Data includes Operating System version, NVDA version, language, country of origin, plus certain NVDA configuration such as current synthesizer, braille display and braille table. No spoken or braille content will be ever sent to NV Access. Please refer to the User Guide for a current list of all data collected. Do you wish to allow NV Access to periodically collect this data in order to improve NVDA." We use this information for several purposes: - Having an idea about many users we have overall is good to use in promotion. - Knowing that we have a lot of users in a particular country enables us to do things like prioritising translating information for users in that country. - Conversely, if there is a large country that we are not reaching, maybe it is because we do not have a translator for the main language used there and that is something we can concentrate on looking for. - Knowing how many users are on a particular version of Windows allows us to ensure we support what our users are working on. For instance, when we dropped support for XP, we knew that only a very small percentage of users were still using XP. We try to collect the minimum information possible which gives us valuable information. You can opt out of this information collection if you prefer, although it does give us more useful data if the majority of our users allow it.

Well of note, the office apps sway, one note, office lens and todo are free office apps.

So if these can be made accessible even if these are the only ms apps I use well I will be using them.

Holy crap! Microsoft has finally made this app usable! Microsoft, who are you and what have you done with Microsoft? Yes, there are quirks and issues (tables, for instance), but check out the shortcuts: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/keyboard-shortcuts-in-onenote-for-windows-44b8b3f4-c274-4bcc-a089-e80fdcc87950 ...And even search is very accessible, which I haven't ever been able to say of MS Word. I'm using Office 365 with NVDA. We'll see how it goes long-term, but a couple of hours with it exceed Ulysses for Mac and all similar that I've tried.

Re: nvda 2018.2.1
Quentin Christensen
Surprise! Happy Monday :) Yes, NVDA 2018.2.1 is to fix an issue with some translations where an older version of some translations was incorrectly used in 2018.2. The problem was partly caused by the what's new file itself, so the outcome was to update to the correct translations, but not update the what's new file, rather than update the what's new file, and risk the same regression with translations. It has raised some issues with the translation system, and Mick is looking into how to make it more robust to prevent issues like this in future. Sorry for the inconvenience! Regards Quentin.

Hi, Chris,
I think outlook is configured to auto archive. I'll look in that folder and see if by any chance they're there. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Rose-Marie Is your Outlook configured to auto-archive? Check your folder list and see if there is a level 0 folder containing archived messages.

Hi, everyone,
I don't know what happened to some of my messages that I had from other lists that I'm on. They just suddenly disappeared. I know I didn't delete them. I tried looking in the junk folder but they're not there. Is there something else I can do?
Thanks for your help in advance.
