Try restarting windows then see if you can delete them then

I found NVDA files left after the uninstall in the program files (x86)

folder. There are 21 files. I tried removing the directory manually,

removing the files with a global delete and one by one. In all cases I got

the same message saying that the process could not be completed because a

file is in use.

I have never used safe mode. Can a screen reader, JAWS 2018, read the screen

in safe mode?

How do I get in to safe mode? Is that the right next step?

In the latest nvda system, the lib folders are renamed and new files are

written to new copies, then the old files deleted. If any of this fails then

this error can occur. I noticed it with another piece of software about a

week ago. A complete clear out fixed it.

However great care went into the fail safe nature for nvda in this regard,

but it might well be a very old  version of nvda if then updated to a very

new one might throw up errors we have not experienced.

You said that it was uninstalled.  That doesn't mean all files were removed.

The next question, which has been discussed here before but which I didn't

try to remember the answer to, is what files are left when uninstalling.  It

appears from the cannot overwrite a file message, that at least one file is

in use.  I don't know why but such questions may help you solve the proboem.

Perhaps something wasn't fully uninstalled that should have been and Windows

is keeping a file in use, perhaps because a registry entry is still present

that tells it to.  In short, I suspect that completely removing the program

may require dealing with such questions or, perhaps, going into safe mode

and removing the extra files.

I don't know what you have done but you may be looking in the wrong
places.

I don't use the new version of NVDA but the latest version, and perhaps
the one before, I don't know, uses a different interface for some
settings. I'll let those who use it discuss it further.

Folks, sometimes the connections just get messed up w/these displays.
A reset can often help.

I don't know if this topic has been already discussed here or if  there's a related issue already created on GitHub, so my apologies if this is a duplicate.

When I update NVDA with Firefox opened, and the updated copy launches, I cannot navigate normally by web pages. With arrow keys I cannot access certain content, but if I press tab I hear all the content there should be in the page. the problem disappeared by restarting Firefox (closing and opening again).

I'm sending this to give anyone who has had this problem the solution and to ask you if this should be escalated to a issue on gitHub. I ask this because it is a problem, but the solution is easy and I don't know the useful for developers ot knowing this.

Because there is no updating content on the static screen after a command is
implemented and has ended. Its just a dos screen except of course its
emulated dos.


The active element is the cursor , not the rest of the screen so the only
way to read the rest one supposes is to kind of move your viewing hole
around the screen.
That was my understanding but I do not use Braille displays, but the spoken
output is the same. IE as its refreshing you hear the output but though
review it you need to use other forms of navigation.

A while back I reported that Windows had started showing me a list of
accessibility tools every time I logged onto my system. This was happening ever
since Windows updated to the latest spring update.


I also reported that I turned off all my plug-ins and that the multiple daily
freezes I was seeing had gone away. Well I am very glad to announce that the
accessibility tool list popup has now also stopped showing up at logon. It
looks like perhaps something in one of them was causing a condition where
windows thought it needed to show me those tools.


Yes, I did try the suggestions folks posted to stop this behavior but none of
those helped.


When I get the time to start turning my plug-ins on again I'll let you all know
which ones cause these behaviors again. I have checked and all of my plug-ins
do appear to be up to date.
