Re: I've had it with Firefox

Ervin, Glenn

Depending on the eMail client, my Outlook and Outlook Express only  says picture one in the From field, I have to do properties on that picture to get the eMail.

The method I outlined will only work if the list has the list set to show that information, not all lists put in the message header.

So neither way is perfect, I have even had to press alt + enter on a closed message to get its properties to find the address of the sender.

But the method I described before works most of the time.

Hi Chris,

Using the method I described in a previous message of using shift + tab, I almost always see the original sender's address.  In fact, I can't think of any lists I am on now or have ever been on that won't reveal this information.  There may be some, but I would think they are few and far between.

Hi Christopher,

If you want to find the personal e-mail of a sender when you are using Thunderbird for e-mail, do the following.

1.  Open the message.

2.  Press shift + Tab until you hear the name of the desired sender.

3.  Press the context key (the key 2 positions to the left of the right control key.

4.  You are given a menu of items including copy e-mail address; add to address book, and send e-mail to.

5.  Make your choice and you should be good to go.

I don't know if you always can, but I've seen lists where the address of the user isn't in the from field but you can see it by looking through the full headers in the message properties.  There is usually a line that says From: and then the sender's name and e-mail address.  In the programs I've used, you can copy and paste what you want from this line using the application cursor as if you were in a word processor.

I'm not hopeful you'll get anywhere, but if Avast isn't sufficiently accessible to let you conduct the scan you want, you might tell that to the company and ask if they will give you a more useable version of the program as a blind person. I knew there was a way to scan using Avast from the command line. But when I checked now, I found it was only available in the pro or paid for version. That means that their paid for version may be accessible enough for you to use while the free version isn't. Whether they will provide you with a version you can use is anybodies guess. But in an environment of ever-decreasing numbers of accessible antivirus programs, you might want to find out.

Gene, how in Thunderbird would I extract your personal e-mail address from your post to the list?

Seeing I was mainly discussing JAWS, not NVDA, I boobooed. I didn't read the e-mail headers correctly, and thought this was on a totally different list which sometimes discussez JFW. I consider my message further to be off topic for this list.

I'd like however to try your suggestion, and if it doesn't work, e-mail you privately so we can keep trouble shooting... that is... of course, if you're OK with that.

Alas, thank you for your help.

Chris.

With JAWS and not with NVDA?  Maybe you should use NVDA with Firefox for a time and JAWS with it only if necessary for some reason.

Also, your problem may be that JAWS isn't lining up what is in the buffer with the actual control you want to work with.  Try the following:

Press the left mouse button instead of enter.  Don't route anything or change to any other cursor than the virtual PC cursor.  Just press the left mouse button instead of enter.

I have one or two other suggestions that might help but if this one solves the problem, trying the others won't be necessary.

I'm coming in on this thread extremely extremely late, so forgive me if
this's been already mentioned. I have managed to get so much mail in my
inbox these last few days of abscence, that I can't possibly go through
everything quickly.

One thing with JAWS 2018 and the latest build of Firefox 61 that I'm
seeing is an issue where you'll be on something which is clickable like
a link, or a dropdown, or something of sort. You either hit enter, or
space bar, and the stupid dad blamed thing either won't do anything at
all, or more 9 times out of 10, it will jump me focused on to my
taskbar. In fact, one time, I hit enter on a link, not even a mailto:
link, and the stupid thing opened my Windows 10 Mail app.

Excuse my language, but, what the hell!

Absolutely this didn't used to happen, and honestly, I can't remember
when it started. Ever since Firefox decided to go Quantom, things have
just totally totally gone down hill with it. I get that VFO is doing
their best with what they have to fix things, which I appreciate. In
their defense, I get totally that they're trying, but I wonder how much
of this is really VFO breaking things, vs. how much is Mozilla breaking
things. I'm inclined to think more the ladder.

I'm admittedly not the biggest fan of Chrome on the Windows platform,
maybe on Android, and on the mac, but not Windows. I'm not totally sure
why, but yeah... It's not something I can put my finger on. I just don't
care for it.

Anyway, I'd be curious if any of you all have seen this behavior as
well. I'm told that supposedly, I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Chris.

Re: Question regarding NVDA and speaking message columns in Outlook

Jus to follow up to this. Turns out, My office updates were disabled resulting me being on an older version of Outlook. Once I enabled it and updated my Office products, this issue of NVDA announcing before every message “No associated draft” went away. It seems it was a known issue with NVDA.

Was this done by reducing the number of columns in your Outlook view? In JAWS the column that indicates an attachment is present in a message is only spoken when there is actually an attachment. Also, the status column is not spoken for messages that have been read and no other action has occurred on the message.

Re: Working with Macros in Excel Spreadsheets?

Hi,
To open combo boxes, you need to use Alt + Down Arrow. On my computer, once I hit Enter to make a selection, NVDA stops talking. The easiest way to get it to behave properly is to maximize the sheet. This happens for me after every use of an Excel dropdown. It has happened for a very long time.

Hi all. Just trying to figure something out... in a workbook I'm reading for a menu guide for an audio device, there are combo boxes to select the different menus which I want to be displayed as tables.
However when I make my selections, even though the combo boxes are accurately reflecting my changes, the tables don't switch and stay at defaults. Is there something I am missing? Or is there another program I can use to accomplish other than excel 2016? The document is below just for reference in case someone wants to see what I mean. Thanks!

Since you are using Win 10, you won't get that ugly voice! It will
default to a Windows One Core voice and these are very understandable.
Only thing is they can't be sped up very much as most all the more
natural sounding voices just fall apart and become like jibberish and
not understandable if you speed them up very much. But you'll like the
One Core voice very much better than the eSpeak. At least, that's true
for myself anyhow.

NVDA? Second. How do I learn the commands to make it work? And
finally how do I get rid of that terrible voice and get one I can
understand and tolerate? I am running windows ten, and jaws 2018. Jim

Re: antivirus?

Gene

You're going to have to explain a bit more than that... because I have
no idea what that is. lol. This same document is perfectly accesible

what the issue was and if there was a way to do it with NVDA.
