Steps to reproduce:

1. Install Vocalizer Expressive Compact voices.

3. Restart NVDA.
4. Open NVDA settings, and try going to Add-on Updater panel.

Expected: no errors, and add-ons excluded from update checks will be

Actual: error in check list box.

Cause: add-on summary text for add-ons like Vocalizer Expressive
Compact contains one or more commas, which causes manifest parser to
treat it as a list instead of text.

Solutions: several, including short-term and long-term, good and bad.
These include converting between strings and lists, checking for names

In the meantime, I’ll prevent Vocalizer family of add-ons from

Have a look down the page from the link provided when you get to it at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net/nvda%20tutorials%20for%20other%20programs.html

You can jump down by headings until you get to the windows mail tutorial. There is a link just under the heading then go into that page.

There might be other tutorials that may be of interest to you on the pages coming off it in the table etc

The material is for a desk top user and there might even be some other blindness related material that might help.

Hi everyone,
I’m delighted to announce the immediate release of updates to Add-on Updater and Screen Curtain. Note that these add-ons are proof of concept (prototype) add-ons and should be used to provide feedback to people developing these feature in NVDA Core:
* Add-on Updater (NVDA Core issue 3208): Joseph Lee
* Screen Curtain (NVDA Core issue 7857): Leonard de Ruijter/Babbage B.V.
In case of Add-on Updater, today’s build includes work from checkable list (NVDA issue 7491), thus serving as a field test of that issue. If you have any comments on checkable list, please send them to Leonard.
To check for add-on updates:
1. If you have Add-on Updater installed, go to NVDA menu/Tools/Check
for add-on updates.
2. If you don’t have Add-on Updater, go to community add-ons website
and install Add-on Updater.
3. Due to addition of Screen Curtain in “add-ons under development”
category, you’ll need to check for add-on updates a second time to
update Screen Curtain.
Changelog:
Add-on Updater:
* When new add-on updates appear, the first entry will be selected and
announced automatically.
* Added ability to exclude add-ons from being updated. You can
configure this by going to NVDA menu/Preferences/Settings/Add-on
Updater panel. From “do not update add-ons” checkable list box,
check add-ons you do not want Add-on Updater to update. This was
requested by an add-on author.
Screen Curtain:
* Added a check to make sure magnification wrapper can be imported.
* Added an unassigned gesture to toggle screen curtain.
* Added a toggle menu item in Tools that shows state of Screen Curtain.
Enjoy.
Cheers,
Joseph

This one is to do with the screen curtain.
I have noticed when nvda boots up the screen curtain is on. I have been told by my sighted partner.
this is when you turn on the computer for the first time and not stand by.
so to make her happy i went to tools then screen curtain and pressed the enter key on it so it would turn it off.
I then saved the configuration so it would not come up.
Computer gets turned off have a cup of coffee then boot back up the computer from off.
When it boots back up the screen curtain goes back on so then if the wife wants to use it i  will turn it off.
She says she can not see the screen to do it lol rof. I use it all the time that way i tell her.
I think may be the default should be off until you turn it on.
I am guessing if the sighted partner wanted to use the pc and did not know they would be stumped. On my computer when ever one of my computers boots up nvda comes on and so would the screen curtain until things are ironed out.
Will a short cut be created so it can be turned on and off quickly with out going through the menus?
By the way where i hear the beeps could down the track maybe have it say screen curtain on or off?
I do not know what others think but but would be easier than the beep. I think it is high beep for on and low for off?
fI am going to get her to see when i go into other screens etc if it stays on permanently until it is turned off I am guessing it will.

I had to restart nvda so it would stop it from looking. Would that also be because the other add on is not up there? or a bug?

Re: Add-on Updater: patch release candidate for update checking and key error problem

Hi,
It is just one that's affected (there could be more). As for taking care of that in Core later, this can be done by not listing Vocalizer entries in the future add-on updates database, and checking or unchecking Vocalizer add-ons to exclusions list has no effect as current add-on server does not list them.

Please, blacklist all the Vocalizer voices addon from Tiflotecnia...
The only addons that benefit from updating are the driver addons... So, all the voices can and should be blacklisted...

I don't know how that will be handled in future NVDA core...

Hello!
With this version, entering the NVDA Settings Panel, and arrowing down in
Categories, when arriving to Add-on Updater I receive the following
error:

In addition to the new link, this new patch should resolve continuous
progress beep problem when trying to check for updates. If this is
working, I’ll release 18.08.4 tonight.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi

The link is broken.

Could you post the new one

Hi all,

A test version of Add-on Updater is now available from:

This one should fix a regression where NVDA kept showing progress
bar dialog when performing a manual add-on update check. Once this
is working, I’ll release 18.08.4 to the public.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: Strange Behavior with NVDA and groups.io Website

I changed the email subscription preferences in another group to full-featured digest yesterday, and today, that seemed to work better since I could use my email program instead of the website to reply. I just changed the preferences in this group today, and I think that will solve the problem. By the way, the reply button is back in Firefox. Will wonders never cease?

Tutorial on Using Windows Mails App with NVDA

Abbie Taylor <abbietaylor945@...>

A while ago, someone asked about The Windows Mail app’s accessibility. Someone else responded with a link to a tutorial on using NVDA with the Windows mail app. Unfortunately, I didn’t save the link, and I don’t remember the exact name of the thread, so trying to find it online would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. If anyone has this link, could you please send it to me. Thank you.

Gene, yes I see what you mean.
I think there are more people who use braille and speech both than developers realize.
And if one used the rules to totally eliminate unnecessary words there would be no problem.
And it will be a pain for me to set up two separate sets of rules.
But (sigh) I see what you mean."
