If you restart nvda does it work again, or has it got to be word or the whole machine that has to be rebooted. I think for us to help we would need you to set logging level to input output or debug.
Then run it till it happens. and see if you can get the old log the next time you boot nvda from the %temp% folder. assuming you are aloud to of course.

Hi everybody,

I would like to ask to people who work with Microsoft Word like me if you have the same problem.

During my job, Microsoft Word stops working and until I don't close or restart NVDA it doesn't unlock.

It happens since a lot of months. I've hoped that through different NVDA updates, Microsoft Word updates and Microsoft Windows update it can be solved, but it continues, so I'd like to ask here.

I'd like to specify that the computer I work on is specifically set only for job.
So few application are installed, and everything is licensed.

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 1803
Microsoft Word: Home and Students Version 1806 (build 10228.20104)
NVDA: version 2018.2.1
Synthetizer_ IVONA, italian Carla

I've made a lot of tests. Microsoft Office tries to understand via Remote Control, but no success.

When Microsoft Word stops working, also NVDA doesn't give me anymore audiofeedback.
There is a log file for NVDA I can share with you to understand better what's happening?

Thanks so much.

Daniele.

Yes. And apparently, a restart of my computer was enough to fix it. At
least for the moment. Very odd indeed..

Hi,
Could someone please remind me what the key command is to bring up the
menu that gives us choices for USB drives such as open folder to view

I haven't used it in a while and I can't remember to save my life.

Weird Focus Bug in Browse mode with Chrome

Clement Chou

So I'm finding that from around this morning, when using chrome I
can't seem to get focus to track properly. When I use my arrow keys to
find links, they aren't able to be activated. Using Focus mode and the
tab key though, I can tab t links and other objects, but when I go
back t browse mode I find that my focus is in a different location
than t should be. This only happens with chrome for some reason, and
I'm using the latest version, 2018.2.1, japanese version. Any
thoughts?

NVDA & IE11, figured it out

Larry Higgins

Hello again listers,

As so often happens, after asking, something happens that leads me right to the answer.

I  was just reading through the posts on the list earlier this morning, and found that someone was having trouble with there use of ZoomText (don't remember what the issue was), but they talked about switching between focus and browse mode, which for some unknown reason I assumed that brows was no longer being used by newer versions of screen readers. I looked up the key command for browse mode, and used it, and I was in business. Guess I'm in  no position to remind anybody about assuming <smile>?

I need to get to RTFMing real soon, as I am in the fourth day of a seven day trial period for Code Factory Eloquence, and need to give NVDA a bit of a work out, along with the synthesizer.

I find, at least for me, that NVDA is much more of a pleasant experience     with Eloquence, my long time preferred voice.

Thanks for all of your help, it is really very much appreciated.

Larry

Re: Contact

Ibrahim,

Thanks very much for sharing the link.  As you suspected, a login is required to continue through to subsequent pages.  The first page is simply a series of radio buttons where you are asked what bank you have an account with and I can't see any more than that.

Without knowing what the object that's misbehaving actually is, it's well-nigh impossible to make an educated guess as to what might work as far as interacting with it, at least for me anyway.

I'm not great with object navigation, but the commands for same are in the Commands Quick Reference that you can bring up via the NVDA help menu.

Re: Disable desktop keys when laptop mode is enabled

Quentin Christensen

Just a small clarification, if you are using NVDA in laptop keyboard layout, then that has its own set of review cursor / object navigation keys which don't use the number pad.  Changing the desktop layout keystrokes won't have any impact on NVDA's functions while you are in laptop layout.  Note that if you do this, you want to leave the laptop layout keys for those functions, or as Gene notes, you will not be able to use those functions.

Quentin.

But before degrading NVDA when it may well not be necessary, what kind of laptop are you using?  Laptops that don't have home and end keys usually have some combination that will work as home and end.  I don't know what that combination is most likely to be, but it may be the fn key and this or that key used in combination.  Others will very likely have suggestions to try or may be able to check documentation.

Also, are you completely sure there is no home and end key?  My laptop has small home and end keys that don't look anything like standard computer keys in a horizontal row of very small keys that are above the main keyboard.  Once, a computer user discussed this question on a list I'm on and, after considerable discussion, she found that the home and end keys were present in an interface more or less as I described.

Re: Disable desktop keys when laptop mode is enabled

Quentin Christensen

Hi Tage,

In NVDA's Input Gestures dialog, you can adjust keystrokes.

Press NVDA+n, then P for preferences, then N for Input Gestures.

In the "Object Navigation" and "Text Review" sections, you should find most of the keys you need.

Numpad7 (which is Home on a regular desktop keyboard) is used in:
"Move to top line in review"
"Move to previous line in review"
and
"Switch to next review mode"

Numpad1, which is End for me, is used in:
"Move to start of line in review",
"Move to previous character in review",
and
"Switch to previous review mode"

If you open the commands quick reference from the help menu- NVDA+n, then H then it's Q or the second item down, has all the keystrokes, so you can search for, for instance "numpad1" or "numpad7".

Regards

Quentin.
