I do have some sympathy with them, but the fact is that they have been
guilty of assuming they have made it better when in fact they have obviously

not made it bug free as well. There is a long history of Skype cock ups
going back way before Microsoft ever owned it, and they seem unable to break

the cycle of fix one thing and break several other things. We all know the
old Skype code is not as robust or secure as it could be, and hence I do see

that Microsoft want to engineer it better for this reason anyway, but
sadly, its not just blind users who are having issues with the new version

and I really do think they need to stop fiddling and concentrate on fixing
before they retire the old system for good.

for version 7.0 of classic Skype in September. If that news didn’t sit well

In a forum post where the Skype team was asking for feedback about the
update, the team has updated the post to say that they will not be ending
support Skype 7 and will extend the deadline. The company did not provide a

new timeline for the end of life of the product but did say that they will
update the post again with more information in the future.

The team says that this change is based on customer feedback but is
ambiguous about the future of the platform. This is an awkward backward step

for the Skype team as they previously said that Skype 8 had all the
functionality that users needed but clearly that is not the case.
For the past couple of weeks, Microsoft has been aggressively pushing users

to upgrade from version 7 to 8 but it’s clear that this update process has
been far from painless.
I have reached out to Microsoft about this change to see if they will
provide any additional information about when this product will be retired.
For now, if you are using the classic version of Skype, you will be able to

do so for the foreseeable future. That being said, at some point you will
have to migrate to a newer version of the software.

I just saw an article in the mainstream press about this new update, which talks about a lot of you I changes, mostly visual. It also says that this will be a whole new install, but it does not install over the top of version 52. Does that mean that I’m going to end up with two copies of Thunderbird? Does it also mean that I’m going to have to redo everything in the new one so it is like it is in the old one? That is to include my account information and any settings I have changed? Sorry for the stupid questions. But the other email app I use forever always used to install over itself when it got an upgrade.

i one time tested skype, but because i cant use and dont love windows
seven, skype 8 does not work for me.
when i tested with windows seven, it was extremely great and realy love it!
but the only issue is not supporting windows xp.
i wish that microsoft readd support for windows xp in to skype eight.
as skype is an important software for me and i realy need it, i

In there select a release, thats 60, just 60.0 no beta, etc.

Select your language, en-us is what I use but en-gb is the global english or any other language.

then win32 is the standard thunderbird, or win 64 or win x64 is the 64 bit directory.

Download that file they are all called the same.

uninstall from add remove programs your old version of thunderbird and then install the new one.

Hi!

I installed Add-On Updater 18.08.5 yesterday, and it shows up as enabled in my add-ons list, but I still have the strange problem I described before, where there is no sign of the add-on updater in either tools or preferences.

As I wr’ite this, I haven’t been warned of any add-on updates either, but that might be simply because none of mine are being updated at this moment. Some of my add-ons are old and have never been updated since I got them as far as I know, which might make a difference.

I probably shouldn’t worry if nothing happens, I just hope to see proof one day that the add-on updater is working, not just that it’s enabled in the Manage Add-ons dialogue.

First, thank you all for your valuable feedback regarding Add-on Updater. At the moment I’m making changes to the corresponding pull request (NVDA issue 3208) based on your feedback and the add-on code.

 

Also, version 18.08.5 will hit the air in about half an hour from now. This one fixes a bug where Add-on Updater settings panel didn’t show up properly if there are add-ons with badly formatted manifest data. I also took this time to exclude Nuance Vocalizer family of add-ons from participating in add-on update checks.

 

Few more important announcements:

 

• Removing “stable” tag: I’m removing stable tag from this add-on once 18.08.5 is released. This is to follow precedence set by Screen Curtain where proof of concept/prototype add-ons will remain under development.
• Compatibility with really old add-ons: prior to widespread use of Add-on Template, add-on authors would package add-ons by hand. This means add-on manifest data would be formatted in such a way that caused Python to treat them as things other than text. Although Add-on Updater will notice these and take appropriate action, compatibility with these old add-ons is not guaranteed. The solution is for add-on authors to put quotes around manifest data, specifically for summary and description fields. I’ll edit relevant sections in NVDA’s developer guide to reflect this discovery.
• Feedback channel: in addition to emails and social media replies (Twitter and what not), the best place to send feedback regarding add-on update feature is GitHub via https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/3208.

I have just added a link to the google translate page for other languages on
the main web page.
You can jump down by letter H to its heading then go down to the link then
press the enter key where it will take you to another page.

For some reason i could not put in a plug in to do it and it wanted it on
every page so have gone down this other route. There is a heading that says
some thing like translate this website to another language and a link to the
translate page. The default language is english and the website main page is
already in the edit section to translate. it is then a matter of changing it
to another language then having it translate to it. Just after the language
combo box you want it to go to is where you can read it in another language.
it also seems if you click on one of the links the next page is also
translated but only on that page i have it pointing to off my website.
You will see what i mean when it is translated.



it may help? for people where english is not there first language like
mine.

Not sure if the steps on what to do is enough or should i add a little more
or hopefully it is clear enough on what to do.

I was not sure if it worked on XP as when the directions went up i think at
that time it had been tested on 7,8 and 10.

Would the directions from 10 also work on XP? to get into it as i used to do

the old way to get into safe mode in windows 10 can be found here at
https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-boot-to-safe-mode-with-command-prompt-2624541

You will need a pair of eyes to do this plus you might not even have sound.

So am guessing you will need to burrow some eyes and give them directions to
fix the problem.

Is that not to make a call? I would have to go back and check when i checked
the short cuts i did not see any to answer. so this one works to answer a
call?

I wonder if any of the old short cuts would work? at moment i just get it to

I have not gone through all the short cuts for skype either I copied the
list from them and tried a few of them but not all. it just might be a focus
thing with nvda not speaking that shorcut when preformed?

i think it is under your profile you can check the boxes to have it
automatically answer in coming calls and videos that is what i have done at

answer in coming calls or video calls may be still to be added?

I do not mind the automatically answer part saves rushing and trying to
figure which part of the screen to be in. It would of made sense to have
left the old short cut keys from skype 7 in it.

Hi Adriani

I have just added a link to the google translate page for other languages on
the main web page.
You can jump down by letter H to its heading then go down to the link then
press the enter key where it will take you to another page.

For some reason i could not put in a plug in to do it and it wanted it on
every page so have gone down this other route. There is a heading that says
some thing like translate this website to another language and a link to the
translate page. The default language is english and the website main page is
already in the edit section to translate. it is then a matter of changing it
to another language then having it translate to it. Just after the language
combo box you want it to go to is where you can read it in another language.
it also seems if you click on one of the links the next page is also
translated but only on that page i have it pointing to off my website.
You will see what i mean when it is translated.



it may help? for people where english is not there first language like
mine.

Not sure if the steps on what to do is enough or should i add a little more
or hopefully it is clear enough on what to do.

I was not sure if it worked on XP as when the directions went up i think at
that time it had been tested on 7,8 and 10.

Would the directions from 10 also work on XP? to get into it as i used to do
it the other way that was posted.

I have not any XP machines here now to test with.
