To be honest, I wouldn't touch xp anymore now days.
Reasons, well lets face it, a lot have moved on now its not just insecurity now.
So, here for those are the status of xp.
Firefox, the last version is 45.0, fine but not secured, not updated.
Last official java is v 6, maybe 7, but nothing more than that.
Klite codecs, the last version is 13.83, there are no updates, no new codecs nothing.
Nvda 1703 is the last version that works with xp now.
Its worth noting that things have moved on since then.
Drivers have done that to, realtech has a win xp driver for its hd cards which is for v 2.7 I think so some of your cards will work maybe.
But everything from graphics to whatever probably will not no support either.
Skype classic for now and 8 for now but to be honest, chances are that any online stuff may or may not work.
Dotnet apps that are written with frameworks over 4.00 will not work either probably and ms has removed a lot of xp downloads from its sites.
Even if you install the windows imbedded 2003 server update hack, you barely have a year now I think that expires next year if I am right, even then, as soon as you do that, you won't have the ability to run anything like office which if you are a gamer is fine.
A small exception is that even though you can't probably run them visual studio 2005 to 2010-2012 runtimes will work as well as 2013 through to 2017, however anything made with 2017 visual studio up uses the new dotnet tech 2013-2010 and earlier is the newest type of app you can run.
A note to that for xp users, you don't get dotnet by default, you will need dotnet 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 runtimes installed as well as directx runtimes for 8 and 9 and 10 and others installed.
There hasn't been security updates for most of the dotnet things bar 4x and sometimes 3.5 sp1 since ages now but because of win7 dotnet is still updated a bit.
For win10, there are no dotnet updates as such or maybe they are handled differently who knows.
It does always seem though in win10 that your latest whatever component you install from setup is always the latest one and maybe they keep themselves updated.

support Skype 7 and will extend the deadline. The company did not provide a
new timeline for the end of life of the product but did say that they will
update the post again with more information in the future.

The team says that this change is based on customer feedback but is
ambiguous about the future of the platform. This is an awkward backward step
for the Skype team as they previously said that Skype 8 had all the
functionality that users needed but clearly that is not the case.
For the past couple of weeks, Microsoft has been aggressively pushing users
to upgrade from version 7 to 8 but it’s clear that this update process has
been far from painless.
I have reached out to Microsoft about this change to see if they will
provide any additional information about when this product will be retired.
For now, if you are using the classic version of Skype, you will be able to
do so for the foreseeable future. That being said, at some point you will
have to migrate to a newer version of the software.

Probably however as with all betas best practice is to uninstall all beta software before installing stable versions.
And before you ask versions 53-59 are all betas.

if you search for thunderbit ftp, the first page is the entire release archive.
from there, selecting the release you want I suggest doing an nvda f7 for list elements, typing 60 or whatever release is the latest then hitting enter on that, select win32 or win64 then your language then the thunderbird file.
There is a 64 bit version however you will have to do a bit of doodling to get it, note there may be a way through the builds on thunderbird.net but I have not studdied this as such as I can perfectly get it off the ftp archive easily enough.
You do need to know what language you use, for most of us en-us should be fine but if you don't care about us or need different spellings or something en-gb is fine for us to, other languages will have to know the language code, ie ru, pl, af, al, or whatever your lang code is.

And while they said they were ready clearly they are not, I don't need it right now but still, just use 7 you don't need 8 right now, they are obviously not ready for us,.

Just use the conventional Add/Remove entry created in the Windows Programs panel. Uninstall the 32 bit version of Thunderbird just like you would any other Windows application you wanted to remove off your PC. Once done install the new 64 bit version.

Question about audio at log in

I have a problem. It seems that since I had this computer repaired the sound does not start up until after nvda has in fact gone past its tones, often you do not even hear the start button or whatever, it just sits there.
What might have happened? is there the load of a special driver for sound right at the start which might have got turned off?

I think though, that the current idea to make older versions of Skype no longer work is a little short sighted. I see noto gain in removing legacy support with runs alongside the new systems now already.
I cannot imagine anyone could hack a new skype user from getting in an oldeer skype system as the interface of the skype system would stop that from happening.

I have reached out to Microsoft about this change to see if they will
provide any additional information about when this product will be retired.
For now, if you are using the classic version of Skype, you will be able to
do so for the foreseeable future. That being said, at some point you will
have to migrate to a newer version of the software.

Hi can I install this version of Thunderbird over the version 54 that I currently have?
Or is it better to uninstall the version that I am currently using and then install the newer version of Thunderbird?

Hi all, Screen Curtain August 7th build will hit the air in about half an hour from now. This build includes following changes as a result of basic add-on review: - Settings: now configurable. You can now ask NVDA to not enable screen curtain when it starts (default behavior from now on). Also, the add-on is ready for configuration profile switches – that is, you can enable or disable screen curtain while in certain situations (using an app, for example).
- Documentation: greatly improved. It now mentions new settings, toggle state, and a link to the actual NVDA issue is provided.

You can't update it directly with the update feature of Thunderbird, but if you use the installer it updates your version without trouble.

I just saw an article in the mainstream press about this new update, which talks about a lot of you I changes, mostly visual. It also says that this will be a whole new install, but it does not install over the top of version 52. Does that mean that I’m going to end up with two copies of Thunderbird? Does it also mean that I’m going to have to redo everything in the new one so it is like it is in the old one? That is to include my account information and any settings I have changed? Sorry for the stupid questions. But the other email app I use forever always used to install over itself when it got an upgrade.

I did a similar thing by running a metronome app set to 2 second beats, and volume set as low as it would go. Note that this will run the battery in your B T headset down a bit faster.
