Accessible YouTube Video Downloading Software

Bhavya shah

Dear all,

Presently, I use clipconverter.cc to download YouTube videos in the
desired format and quality. However, I am now looking for a software
equivalent that can download multiple YouTube videos simultaneously in
my preferred format and at a selectable quality that is free as well
as accessible.

I would truly appreciate any suggestions or recommendations of such software.

Thanks.

Accessing the Proofing Toolbar in Word 2016

Bhavya shah

Dear all,

When pressing F7 in Word 2016 to access the Spelling and Grammar Check
dialog, a Proofing toolbar, which I infer is a different name for the
same functionality, opens up. In dealing with the Word 2016 Proofing
toolbar however, I am unable to ascertain what the error is in the
first place. I Tabbed around the dialog hunting for a field or control
with this information as was the case in Word 2010, attempted screen
review, and neither of these two approaches yielded anything. In my
brief experimentation though, on the other hand, object navigation did
get me at something although I will need to play more with this to
zero in on how object navigation can be effectively used to achieve
access to all parts of this Proofing toolbar. If anybody can confirm
this inaccessibility, suggest alternate means of getting to the error
and text around it along with a list of possible corrections if
available, all of that would be valuable.

I would truly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks.

Re: List of Annotations in Word

Quentin Christensen

Hi Rick,

Thank you, all good feedback.  Making the results found so far available is definitely a good idea, and I know we were keen to try and improve the efficiency of the whole function.  There is an open ticket on our issue tracker which you may be interested in following here: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/6297

There isn't currently a way to change the default view of the elements list. If you press alt+a it moves to that option, although because the activate button also uses alt+a, you need to press spacebar to choose it.

Hello Quentin:

Thanks for your explanation. I was trying to find a common thread before mentioning this problem. Has it been considered to split the annotations into 2 separate panes, one for only comments and another for insertions and deletions (my preference)? This might make each faster. I think this is how WindowEyes did it in the past. Also, what about producing the partial results after the 20 seconds. Something is often better than nothing. The only issue here is how to announce that the results are incomplete.

Whatever you do, don’t go to the separate keystrokes for each type like in Jaws. I can never remember all the different keystrokes. I like the single dialog with multiple choices.

Also, is there a way to select the default view. While some people might prefer links as the default, since I mainly work with reviewing, I much prefer annotations as the default when first invoking the elements dialog.

Rick

Hi Kelby,

It is an issue we are aware of.  The issue and associated conversation are at: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/6297

Basically NVDA gives the process 20 seconds to run and if it hasn't finished in that time, it cancels it so that the user isn't left with an unresponsive system for too long.  We're looking into how we can improve that.

Word's reviewing pane lists all the track changes etc.  You can get to that from the reviewing pane, and the easy, quick and logical shortcut* to get to it is alt+r, z, t, t, p, enter

If you want to "clear" track changes so you can just see comments etc, you can press ALT+r, a, 2, s to accept all tracked changes and turn off tracking.

*Shortcut may or may not be easy, quick or logical

Quentin.

Re: NVDA FireFox and PDF Incompatibility

Did you know that Firefox can be set to open pdf files in another program such as Adobe Acrobat Reader? I don't remember exactly how I set it up, but now, when I download my local newspaper, which is in pdf format, I just click on the link to the issue I want, and after okaying a dialog box that confirms that I want to open the document in DocuScan Pus, a program I use to read pdf files, voilla! Until the issue with Firefox and pdf files is resolved, this might be a good work-around.

I have used several computers with intel and a m d cpus. I have used jaws, nvda and win eyes and have had no problems with any combination of cpu and screen reader.
Try this;

Download a demo of jaws, and install it.
Listen for audio problems using jaws.
If there is no problem with jaws and there continues to be a problem with nvda, then you know the problem is nvda.

Which synthiser and voice are you using with nvda?

I don't have the technical knowledge to tell you how to do this but you have to send the log or the appropriate part of the log to someone who can look at it to try     to figure out what is causing the problem.  At this point, we don't even know what is crashing, the screen-reader or the synthesizer.

It might help to know what sound card / chipset this machine uses, in case
other people have the same hardware and can comment on any problems they've
experienced.

Also, when NVDA stops talking and needs to be restarted, do other sounds (a
media player, for example) continue normally?

Which version of Windows are you running?

Which speech synthesiser are you using, and have you tried another one to see
whether the problem remains or changes?

Is there any obvious situation or timing to when NVDA gives up - does it stop
when you try to do certain things, or when it's been running for a certain
length of time? How often does it occur?

So after a loss of speech or NVDA crash how do you capture the log file that may show what happened. If I restart NVDA the log file only shows the restart of NVDA

Just downloaded the screen curtain add on hearing screen curtain on

I also checked out the documentation as well and had a quick read.

I think maybe some people may know or some will not that you can
asign a short cut key to turn it on and off. There was no mention in
the help section or where to go if you are a new user of the add on.

I Until i looked under the gestures section then tools then screen
curtain i did not know where this could be done.

Some people may not be aware you can asign a gesture to some of the
    add ons.

Do you reckon it needs to be mentioned or not just looking at it

          * Toggle messages: instead of playing a tone whenever screen
curtain is toggled, a message will be spoken and brailled.
The tone will be heard if screen curtain is enabled when

Well for pdfs to be honest unless you have a need to open them inside the brouser go to options, and then applications and save them to save.

You can open them outside the brouser easily enough.

Re: Windows 10 Essentials Error on Stable Channel

Hi,
Actually, returning an error is the correct and intended behavior. Ideally, the version metadata should come up, but if it doesn't, that's an error. I'll look into making the error message clearer.
Cheers,
Joseph

Joseph: I am running revision 18.8, but even if this is the latest version, it should notify me that I am running the up-to-date add-on rather than returning an error. Example: NVDA speaks No update available when I check for updates on 18.2.1. Thanks for looking into this.

On 8/13/2018 2:52 PM, Joseph Lee wrote:

Hi,
I see. Which version of Windows 10 App Essentials do you have?
Technical: the regular expression used to locate version metadata isn't working for this user. If one is using 18.05.x series, chances are that the URL for the add-on download package isn't recognized. I'll do something about this for 18.09 release (around Labor Day weekend in the United States). Prior to that, one workaround is to visit the add-ons website and download the latest stable version (18.08.1).
Cheers,
Joseph
