Re: \Re: Windows 10 and email

Ervin, Glenn

The only problem with Outlook in my opinion, is its lousy search features.

In outlook Express, we can put something in every message field to really narrow the search, and the time frame is much easier and customizable to use than it is in Outlook.

I save many messages for later reference and the searches for old messages is much faster with Outlook Express than it is with Outlook.

For me, that is a significant drawback with Outlook.

The one thing I can state that I like about Outlook over Outlook Express, is the way you can go to another folder and when you return to the inbox, you are in the same place in the list of messages from where you left the inbox.

All one has to do is think about any of the other Microsoft Office suite programs, other office suites, Thunderbird, most web browsers, and more and how they use them to realize that they "haven't even scratched the surface with all the features."

There are lots of things in the MS Office suite of programs that I've never touched, including some of the programs themselves (e.g., OneNote).

Were you also complaining about issues with the ZoomText reader recently not behaving as expected. If so, did both issues start at the same time as far as you can tell? I don't have any additional ideas, but perhaps the two are related.

Which version of Firefox were you using before?
I would actually suggest two things. If you are the sort of person who only puts your computer to sleep, try a complete shut down and restart.

If that works, all well and good if not, try running the register tool in nvda. I suspect this might make no difference as I think it runs at boot up anyway, but worth a try.
It is worth noting that there are a significant number of us who have had this issue with the Quantum builds so if you were using 52 before, then you might be on of us. For those my fix is Waterfox which is a 64 bit version of firefox with whatever the problem in Firefox recent builds omitted.

Re: Windows 10 and email

Ervin, Glenn

I find web mail time consuming.
My ISP sometimes, like several times a week, won't work with any of my eMail clients, in that I can receive, but sometimes not send from an eMail client, and I have tried a variety of clients to see if it was the program.
I have spent hours on the phone with CableOne support to no resolve.
But as a work-around, I use their web mail interface for sending mail, when I discover that again my messages aren't going out, and I must say that in my opinion, the web interface should be the utility of last resort when using a screenreader.
Their default settings is a format called Ajax, and I have never looked into what that is, but that definitely does not work with a screenreader.
But whatever the format, I think the web access for mail is less efficient than an eMail client.

I use Thunderbird. It's very easy to download and install if you get it from www.ninite.com. Some settings need to be tweaked in order for it to work well with a screen reader. I have instructions if anybody needs them. I've noticed lately that it's sluggish on start-up, so you just need to be patient and after a while, it'll work normally. The Windows 10 mail app also works well with NVDA, but set-up only works with Narrator, and it doesn't have all the features that Thunderbird does. I hope this is helpful.

I'm about to upload August 27th snapshot that not only includes a fix for this (for those who haven't applied revision A), but also will check add-on checkboxes by default so you can update add-ons.

Hi Tony. I was about to write to the list on the same subject. At
first I wondered if there was some kind of bug when the notification
appeared several hours apart but I am convinced it isn't a bug.

Looking forward to the answer and a possible remedy.

Howdy,

The latest version of the add on updater came out yesterday. When I
check the option to install it, the only button that shows up is a
close button. I went through the dialog box, and the only things that
are in there are the checkbox to select the update and the close button.
What's up with that, where's the install button for the darn thing?
Slightly perplexed.
