Best blogging software for use with NVDA

Cearbhall O'Meadhra

Hi everyone,

I have decided to be brave and set up a blog on my site at www.multisensorydesign.ie to discuss various aspects of the approach and ideas for multisensory design as against purely visual solutions such as those that cause us such a nuisance.

I have been doing some research and WordPress keeps coming up. Is this the best option for managing a blog non-visually using NVDA?

All ideas and suggestion welcome!

Cearbhall

Unfortunately, it's been doing this since I updated sometime last
week, ie, it's been restarted multiple times since.

So no problems but I am using a 32 bit version of fire fox but do not
think that would  just because you have a 64 bit version it would do it.

Is the Windows 10 NVDA list still active, or was it merged with this list? I can't remember now. If still a separate entity, what is the subscribe address? Thanks.

With the physical mouse if i remember right it was find the thing hold down the left key on it then drag it to the place where you want it then let that key off.

Been 30 years or so i guess since i have done it that way.

when the golden cursor come to the add on website then it would let you use the arrow keys to move the mouse around and a bit more. Even labeling i think you call it hot spots.

That would make it super easy.

later on tonight I will add in a link to the tutorial on mozilla thunder bird to this add on. so people know it is there. I think some of the new users are not aware they can install add ons or where to go for extra functionality.

I just figured people knew it was there so did not add it into the tutorial but it looks as though people are unaware.

Probably some sort of drag and drop which I've never really gotten NVDA to do properly. JAWS has always had the edge there.

As I didn't want to use web mail, though GMail's basic html is quite accessible, and since I couldn't even get NVDA to read the setup screen for Microsoft's own mail program, I decided to fight with Thunderbird instead, at least for now.  My very favorite mail client I ever used was Windows Vista's version of Windows Mail, the only thing not great being that you couldn't have more than one identity. Outlook Express was my second favorite though large identities could get corrupt at times, losing all messages in the process, something Windows Mail on Vista solved by having each message be its own file rather than the full identity be one large file. A dream program for me would have been Vista's Windows Mail, but with identities added, but with the messages still being one to a file rather than the whole identity.

I tried Windows Live, but it was moving very slow on this machine, even the earlier installer Brian had saved.

Same here, Travis. That's one of my biggest pet peeves about Thunderbird, the fact that it displays the subject first instead of the sender's name. So far, I haven't been able to find a way to fix this, either. That's one  reason why I tried the mail app, which does display messages with the sender first.

Re: strange behavior with add on updater

This evening when I launched NVDA 2018.2.1 and Add-On Updater popped up, indicating that it had an update for itself, it was impossible to interact with the checkbox, even using a mouse, and thus the update could not be completed.  I had to cancel out of the Add-On Updater dialog.

reading mail in outlook 365

I decided to try my hand with Outlook 365. I liked it, overall. However, emails with NVDA and Outlook 365 didn't read as well as they do with Thunderbird and NVDA. For example, it appears that using arrow keys in some emails in Outlook 365 is not a great solution. All you see is blank lines and graphics, whereas you see links and a fairly compact view in Thunderbird. The tab key doesn't change this in any way, shape or form.

Has anyone else seen this, and if you have, does anyone have a solution? For me, using Outlook 365 won't work unless I can get around these issues. I'm using the latest version of NVDA alpha. Any help with this one is much appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Kevin,

Sorry, I see you did identify it as Control Usage Assistant on the "spur" of this topic.

I absolutely hate it when topics get split such that the same conversation is running in parallel and where anyone can constantly be missing something unless they jump back and forth between the two topics.  All over a misplaced backslash being introduced in the topic's subject line at some point.

It's definitely working with Thunderbird 60, the latest released version of NVDA, and Win10 Home 64-bit.
