Abbie, just so we can look at the same stuff, can you tell us what
book you were trying to get?

I had some trouble w/it last time when this was brought up, but I
looked at it today regarding a book title & here's what I got:
"Is Your Cat Crazy Solutions from the Casebook of a Cat Therapist:
Solutions from the Casebook of a Cat TherapistMar 27, 1996   Kindle
eBook
by John C. Wright
$10.99
Kindle Edition
Buy now with 1-Click ® (button)
Get it TODAY, Aug 28
4 out of 5 stars 12
Sold by: Amazon Digital Services LLC"

so the 1-click button was definitely there for me.

At that point I had a "main region" available with buying options. It seems
the tab order is all over the place so I am not quite sure about that. When
I found buying options hitting tab and then shift tab three times seemed to
bring me to the Kindle purchase button.

Another way I found to find the Kindle purchase button for this book was to
hit H3 to get to the start of the reviews, and then hit shift-B to go back
one button.

I hope this helps, but I have to say it is a bit confusing. Certainly
searching for "Kindle" with NVDA search functions might be more effective.

I just now tried to purchase another Kindle book from the Amazon site.
When I couldn't find the button to buy with one click with NVDA, not
even with object navigation, I switched to System Access, and sure
enough, there was the button, and I was able to successfully complete
the purchase without having to call Amazon's disability customer service.

It sounds to me, then, that the issue here may be with NVDA, although
folks who use Jaws or Narrator could possibly try the site to see if
they can find that elusive button. I wonder if there is something NVDA
developers can do to allow the program to read these buttons. Surely
there are other such buttons on other sites that NVDA won't read, even
with object navigation, but that are easily recognized by other
programs. Not all screen readers are created equal. This is just an idea
for what it's worth.

Hey, Jackie, I certainly hear you. I was using a few legacy add-ons when we all needed to upgrade to FF Quantum, so there was a bit of virtual kicking and screaming as I made the transition. I ultimately determined that security was worth the price.

There is certainly pain with losing a favorite add-on though.

Grab the portable version of Firefox:

It's version 62.0.2, the latest right now, and choose where you want it
on your computer.

When done, open it up and see if you can select text normally, or if
you're still having trouble. If things are normal, your desktop
installation may have corrupted, and you might have to uninstall and
reinstall Firefox. If things are still not working properly with the
portable edition, you may have to do the same uninstalling/reinstalling,
but this time with NVDA.

Another idea is to disable all NVDA and/or Firefox add-ons and
extensions and see if something there may be causing troubles. If things
work after that, try enabling things one at a time, and one of them will
likely break Firefox selection for you, but you'll know what the culprit
is this time.

Hopefully something will work.

I just tested things again with NVDA 2018.2, Windows 10 and Firefox
61.0.2, both 64-bit, and all worked as expected.

Good luck,

Travis

Re: reading mail in outlook 365

Quentin Christensen

Since this is the second email in a row to ask a similar question, I'm curious, why do people read pieces of text that may be long, using the arrow keys rather than Say All (NVDA+down arrow or NVDA+a depending on your setup)?

Note that I'm not saying you SHOULD do it one way or the other, just wanting a better understanding of why people do things the way they do.  For me, I use Say All with a finger ready on SHIFT to pause speech as needed.

You can force Outlook to open emails as plain text rather than HTML (File menu, options, Trust centre, Email security, read all standard email in plain text), however, that displays links to external images as links and reads out the full link of each, rather than the HTML view which simply denotes "graphic".

Regards

Quentin.

All you see is blank lines and graphics, whereas you see links and a fairly compact view in Thunderbird. The tab key doesn't change this in any way, shape or form.

Has anyone else seen this, and if you have, does anyone have a solution? For me, using Outlook 365 won't work unless I can get around these issues. I'm using the latest version of NVDA alpha. Any help with this one is much appreciated, and thanks in advance.

If you've got a self-hosted site, then WordPress is an excellent choice. It's very accessible from my experience. I've used the .com version of WordPress to create my own personal blog, and I'm loving it.
With a self-hosted WordPress installation, you can install your own plugins and themes. Heck, you can even turn it into a website, complete with a blog and a forum.

@Brian Vogel, thank you so much for the link to the Mozilla add-on to Thunderbird. Once I installed this, it took me a few minutes to figure out that in order to configure columns in a message list, you have to select an item such as correspondent and then determine where it should be by pressing the up and down buttons. For those of you who use Sero, it's very similar to the process of determining the order of items on your home screen.

This is truly wonderful. Now I can use first letter navigation in my message lists. Thank you again, Brian.

Windows 10 NVDA list

Kwork

Is the Windows 10 NVDA list still active, or was it merged with this list? I can't remember now. If still a separate entity, what is the subscribe address? Thanks.

Well, it works when a whole line is selected, but not word by word.

Hi

it is not happening on my version of fire fox and it is the latest
version 61 some thing  a rather. It is selecting what I want and i hear
it say the word then selecting or is it selected all the line i want
then copy it.

So no problems but I am using a 32 bit version of fire fox but do not
think that would  just because you have a 64 bit version it would do it.

Using Firefox version 61.0.2 (64-bit), when I press control shift
right arrow, words are no longer selected. Anyone else notice this?
