Re: looking for tutorial on Dictation Bridge

Thank you very much for helping. I do have drageon 12 so will try dictation
bridge with. I was hopping for some list of hotkeys that work with nvda
like that of jaws. Of course jaws is much more than I can afford. So I am
hoping I can do the same thing with nvda.
Thanks a bunch.

Hi Dan,

There are no paid tutorials for dictationBridge but thanks for the thought.
The place to go for dictationBridge documentation is:
https://github.com/dictationbridge/dictationbridge-docs/blob/master/dictatio
nBridge.md

There is really nothing you need to do with dictationBridge. If you need
echo back, you install the add-on and wen you launch Dragon or windows
speech-recognition, you will get echo back. If however, you want to write
commands to control a program via speech, then you will have to look at the
documentation of your speech recognition engine of choice.

No. They use an offline OCR engine provided by Microsoft.

was recognized and placed in the results viewer. I went down to mail,
I hit space, nothing happened, route mouse to navigator object folloed
by left click, nothing, tried enter, nothing, space, and enter two
times, still mail did not activate, NVDA did not click it. So I
unloaded NVDA and started the latest jaws2018. Jaws old legacy MSAA
drivers are turned off for windows10. So I told jaws to OCR the
screen, it did.  It turned on the jaws cursor, I moved to windows10
mail, and did a left mouse click twice quickly. And mail activated and
loaded up. So what is wrong with NvDA OCR? Why won’t it activate
mail while jaws will in fact activate mail? Will I have to use jaws to
get at the menus of games such as madden nfl 19 and successfully click
the options and then unload jaws to play? Is this a NVDA OCR bug, or
is there a more accurate OCR NVDA addon? In any case I am glad I have
two screen readers on here, in case one does not work, the other
probably will.

Since this is the second email in a row to ask a similar question, I'm curious, why do people read pieces of text that may be long, using the arrow keys rather than Say All (NVDA+down arrow or NVDA+a depending on your setup)?

Note that I'm not saying you SHOULD do it one way or the other, just wanting a better understanding of why people do things the way they do.  For me, I use Say All with a finger ready on SHIFT to pause speech as needed.

You can force Outlook to open emails as plain text rather than HTML (File menu, options, Trust centre, Email security, read all standard email in plain text), however, that displays links to external images as links and reads out the full link of each, rather than the HTML view which simply denotes "graphic".

For example, it appears that using arrow keys in some emails in Outlook 365 is not a great solution. All you see is blank lines and graphics, whereas you see links and a fairly compact view in Thunderbird. The tab key doesn't change this in any way, shape or form.

Has anyone else seen this, and if you have, does anyone have a solution? For me, using Outlook 365 won't work unless I can get around these issues. I'm using the latest version of NVDA alpha. Any help with this one is much appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Re: Updated the accessible applications wiki again.

I added the free version to the wiki. I really don't want to promote paid software on the wiki because accessibility could break later. I plan on adding a few more links either Friday or Saturday but for now, the free version of OE Classic has been added to the wiki. 2.9 will be even more accessible, by the way.

Re: Microsoft office 2019accessibility

Quentin Christensen

Hi Robert,

I just replied to someone else with pretty much this, but sometimes things just come through as improved UX rather than accessibility specifically.  Spell check in Word 365 for instance, is vastly better than it used to be - you get the context of an error and the error spelt now, and when moving through alternate spellings, it automatically reads definitions.

Of course, change can also take some getting used to, and comes with the possibility of breaking things (for instance, alt+letter accelerator keys don't work in spell check now, although as long as you aren't on the edit box, you can now press the letter without alt).

The other thing of course, is that I can tell you what Office 365 is like right now, but no guarantee of what it will be like this time next year...

Hi Don,

Microsoft are regularly updating Office 365.  So, while you may be wary of that if you aren't a fan of change, they are improving some things.  For instance, spell check in Word is much better now than it used to be in Word 2013 - you get the context of an error and the error spelt again, when moving through alternate words, it automatically reads the definition etc.

Of course, change introduces the possibility of things breaking as well, but on the whole, I like Office 365, yes.

Hi Quentin

I went back to beta 2 and beta 1 they still have the same problem. they only also have 56 files in the main directory.. they were downloaded from the nvda developers snap shot page at https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/snapshots/

I beleave the location has not moved?? as that is where i have been downloading them from.

There is no add ons at all in these versions of nvda and i just now went in and disabled all add on etc in fire fox aprt from add blocker as it does not cause problems with alfa or stable.

I will be going back to the 2018.2.1 version as it does not do it nor does the alfa.

Did the problem with the browseer get sorted out when you either open it or do it through the user manual for mozilla fire fox? apart from maybe installing it over the top of the 2018.2.1 version i have not done to see if the same problem is still there.

Hi Quentin

Even with that program turned off when you go to open the browser or even the user manual in nvda it crashes. There even in the portable version should not only be 53 files in the main directory.

It does not crah as mentioned before in the stable version or the alfa. Yet the other browsers work nice with it.

I might go back and try previous versions of the beta. to see if the same problem is there. I just can not remember i know when it was reported first i think it was a 2018.3 beta 3 release.

Hi Quentin

I done the following. From the portable copy installed nvda over the top of the installer version so now the installer version is 2018.3 beta 3

it still crashes Mozilla fire fox.

I also done it from the 2018.3 beta 3 file over the top still crashes the user guide and mozilla fire fox.

I will be going back to the 2018.2.1 version as it does not do it nor does the alfa.

Autohotkey is a great program that will remap keys, and do just about
everything else.

I think All Jaws does is to add a key that does the actual presses
internally, which seems to me to be a waste of a keypress as keys unasigned
tend to be getting as rare as hens teeth these days!
There used to be a neat utility that just did macros ie you could define a

series of keypresses for a simple sequence to do for you.

NVDA does have the ability to remap keystrokes for its internal commands
via the "Input Gestures" dialog - press NVDA+n, then p, then select "Input
gestures", search for the command you want, and add a new keystroke (or
remove one).

CONTROL+UP ARROW or CONTROL+DOWN ARROW to move by paragraph in Word, is
actually a Word command rather than an NVDA command however, so you can't
remap that one. It's a common function though and is available in many
programs.

Quentin.

Is there a way to set one of the single letters on the keyboard, say P,
as
the command key for navigating content paragraph by paragraph? right now
we
need to press ctrl with down arrow for the same. A single letter key
would
be very helpful, like there is in JAWS.
