Re: problem with the blind mice mart site and nvda
Bash them somewhere else. If you want to
discuss a problem reasonably, even if you want to express anger when reasonable,
that's fine. But you have no right, just based on your experience to bash
a company and say they should be shut down and say its disgraceful when you
don't even know the extent of the problem and if the company has been
notified. Bash all you like in a completely unjust and irresponsible
manner somewhere else. As moderator, I will not allow it here.
Reasonable discussion, fine. Bashing and disparaging with no justification
just because you, yourself have a problem and you know nothing about others'
experiences nor if the company even knows of the problem is something else
again. Of course I want sites to be accessible. But you don't cast
unjustified aspersions and disparagement in a responsible attempt at
resolution.
If it turns out to be a site problem, and we don't
know yet, I have no objection to you contacting the site in a civil manner and
reporting the problem. If you get an unsatisfactory response, we'd be glad
to know. If you can't do so civilly and responsibly, then let someone else
do it. You don't advance your cause by antagonizing someone before you
even know how they will respond or what they know in the first
place.

Re: problem with the blind mice mart site and nvda
I didn't say you didn't relate your
experience. That is true only as your experience. You don't know
what other people will report or experience. You don't know if there is
some odd problem with your computer that causes this interaction. I'm
discussing how to get the truth, not just what you experience, but the general
truth about whether this is a general problem or almost exclusively your
problem. We have very little information yet. I'm telling you how
you research and trouble shoot a problem like this.
I'm interested in the truth, not
just your experience. Why do you think programs are beta tested by a large
number of users? Because some people have problems and others don't and it
isn't always known why. You can't assume that your experience in a problem
like this is the general one, and that's the truth. Again, I didn't
say once that you don't have problems with the site. But drawing any
general conclusions with almost no information about others' experiences is
completely unjustified and improper procedure.
It would also be useful if those
reporting a problem tell us what version of Windows they are using. We are
looking for patterns and if there are certain factors that are associated with
the problem.

Re: problem with the blind mice mart site and nvda
Somebody made the point that if you use the arrow keys and then enter into the form field, you can tell what the labels are. That is true. It is also kind of a pain in the butt, because there can be lots of forms and all that moving in and out of forms mode is in official denigrate waste of time. I did try this site using edge with NVDA with the same results that others have reported. Tabbing from field to field is useless. The labels are not read. This is with the latest stable release of NVDA. Same results with Firefox. Using my iPhone, it works fine, but that is because using the touchscreen, you see the label before you actually enter into the edit field. Fields are labeled. But for whatever reason, NVDA with the browsers isn’t seeing them. I have had this problem with enough other sites where the companies have a bunch of money we’re NVDA also doesn’t see those labels. I have no idea why, since I do not understand HTML. Mary

Re: problem with the blind mice mart site and nvda
The problem is that the site is based on older technology. No--the tab key does not work particularly well on the site, as is the case w/many sites. But using arrow keys works very well. Using them, all form fields are labeled, etc, using latest stable NVDA, Firefox, & Chrome.
So those who are having problems--have you tried using arrow keys? You know, folks, it can cost a lot of money to keep websites up w/the latest technologies. & these evolve so rapidly that one can find oneself in a position of almost constantly having to pay for a revamp. If the site truly were inaccessible, I'd have something to say--if for no other reason that the web is what I do--but this from my experience is not inaccessible nor has it ever been. Try up/down arrow keys, yall. I think you'll like the results.

Re: problem with the blind mice mart site and nvda
Also, you don't know if the owner or owners of the
business are even aware of the problem. You don't know the extent of the
problem, how many people have had it, and whether it has been reported to
them. You don't know if this is just an NVDA problem or if it is actually
a site problem. Yet you have repeatedly stated here that they should be
ashamed of themselves. That is completely unreasonable. That is my
last comment. I've said all I need to say.

the site is not accessible. You said they should be shut down. You
had no facts. All you knew was that the site didn't work in your

I consider it very inappropriate to attack a site,

You bashed the company and I sent a

Re: problem with the blind mice mart site and nvda
You don't know they are even aware of the
problem. So far, we don't know how many people have the problem. If
they haven't tried the site with whatever conbinations of browsers and
screen-readers cause the problem, then why are you assuming they know about
it? Let's see what others say. I don't know what the situation is,
but on another list, Brian said this happens with the latest version of
NVDA. Now, he said it has been a problem for years. So what is the
problem? Is it limited to NVDA? Does it occur with JAWS or another
screen-reader? Does it only occur with the latest version of NVDA?
If so, how do we know if it is a web site problem or an NVDA problem?
The site worked properly when I checked it. I
am not using the latest version of NVDA and I checked it with Chrome.

I should add that I'm not saying others don't have
the problem but I suspect it is a problem limited to your or not many
machines. We'll see what others report.
