ccleaner

Hi.

The malware issue was only for a couple days, someone in the company had issues with them and so put malicious code in.

They took that seriously and handled it.

As for avast, ccleaner portable is what I would go for or slim.

To be honest once set right the only thing you miss from the installed coppy are the desktop and program shortcuts.

And from my descussion with ccleaner they are going to look at avast being in their installers.

Sadly, I have several friends saying that all cleaners ccleaner, etc are malware.

To avoid this they buy something like mcafee or norton.

Sadly we all know how bad those are.

Its what we have to remove from our computers.

I think ccleaner compaired to some is quite safe.

They are up front with what they install and you can use other things for installers or portable.

Thanks much! That worked like a champ! I bookmarked the page so as long
as the portable version is always on this page I can get newer versions
from now on. If they change the page with each new version, then it
won't work but I hope it will.

The adjusting of the monitering so it says smart cleaning instead to

If you turn off smart cleaning ccleaner shouldn't stay loaded at

In my experience the portable is normally an older version to the installed one.

I also noticed something in an advert on filehippo yesterday, an advert for an Avast system cleaning utility. Could we be nearing the end of ccleaner now they belong to Avast as it seems half the universe now does?

By unwanted they mean avast anti virus, usually a couple of hours after you installed ccleaner. Then you need avastclear to get rid of it so it does not self install again later after you uninstall it.

Hi!
Thanks for the info below about CCleaner 5.46, with the Dropbox link to the new .ini file.
Talking of links, would it be possible to post one here where we can easily get the portable version of CCleaner, please? When my current portable version tells me there is an update, I'm taken to the Piriform site when I hit the "yes" button, and I can't find a download link for portable CCleaner there. Doing a Google search brings up different results every time, and the sites in the Google search results can be confusing anyway.
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Bye for now!

How do I get it to work cause whenever I type in a US city it comes up with a different zip code that is not in the US. Hi

If it was the skype update i just got to night i had to alt/tab to bring
the focus to that UAC screen. I guess that was because i had a few
windows open. usually tabbing through it will tell you what it is you
can always use the more information link it gives you. If some things
are not read out make sure it is in focus and you can also use the nvda
key + letter B to have it read out.

I tried the site with Firefox and it didn't read the fiels correctly
with NVDA.  It does with JAWS.  It is now, in my opinion a question
for NVDA developers to look at.  is this an NVDA problem or a site
problem?  Does this affect enough sites to be worked on or is the
number so very small that the correction, if there is one, isn't
justified?

Also, this form illustrates the reason people should be taught to
down arrow rather than tab through forms in general. Consider the
following quote from the form we are discussing:
Password (must be at least 6 characters and contain at least 1 number):
JAWS sees the word "password" but the explanatory text about what
the password must contain is not read when tabbing.  That is
important information and a lot of people won't sign up successfully
without seeing it.  They won't include a number or it will be too
short.

There are a lot of sites that have information that may be important
between fields that is not read when tabbing. Again, another example
of poor Internet instruction.  There are forms where I know, as an
experienced user, that I don't have to worry about missing possible
information between the fields.  But what about all the
inexperienced users?  What about people who fill out a form, don't
know the importance of down arrowing instead of tabbing through a
form, and don't understand why the form is not being accepted?  Had
they down arrowed and seen information about the syntax to use in a
field, they'd know.

Experienced users may want to tab through unfamiliar forms but they
may have problems as a result.  the best way to deal with a form is
to down arrow through it and certainly, inexperienced users should
do so as a matter of routine.  And, of course, anyone should try
down arrowing through a form if information isn't read that is
necessary while tabbing.

Hello,

Not a big fan of products like CCleaner. In September of 2017, it was widely reported that the backdoor was being exploited to have malware implanted. And another report last December:

The actual malware detected in CCleaner was found to contain malicious code: the attackers implanted their code in a legitimate product that received a legitimate certificate.

Who knows when or if the above will happen again. Use the product at your own risk.

Re: NVDA PORTABLE

hi.
i always follow new features, changes and bug fixes in different
versions of nvda.
i believe nvda since its version 2017.3 and later, has focus on
improving windows ten support, microsoft edge, braille and quantum
versions of firefox which i dont need any of them.
i wished to use 2017.2 which has some important features for me, but
unfortunately it is slow in web browsers, and even two or three times
made my keyboard and explorer unusable and made me to forceably
shutdown my system using power key!
the only version that sutes my needs and i did not experience such
problems on it, both using windows xp (my favorite windows version
forever) and even testing with windows seven, is nvda version 2017.1.

i realy love it, very fast and responsive, without hang or making
keyboard and system unusable and i wish and decided to keep and use
nvda 2017.1 forever by the grace of God!

Hi,

Gene is correct, although I should emphasize that 2018.3 (at least in beta
form) will bring more than improved support for Windows 10. Some of the
other features include automatic braille display detection, announcing
grammar errors in Chrome if exposed by web authors, support for BrailleNote
QT (my work), improved list of languages in NVDA's general settings panel,
and a whole bunch of changes for developers.

Cheers,

Joseph

Do you have service pack 1 installed on the Windows machine? that is
necessary. As far as I know, NVDA still supports machines withService Pack
1.

How important is it for you to run a current version. While I don't
follow what's new in NVDA closely since I have no need of what has been
changed, my impression is that for awhile, most changes are to keep the
program current and improve accessibility in Windows 10. Therefore, you
might do well running the last version that doesn't require service pack 1
if you can't or don't want to upgrade the machine.

I'm not sure the ADA doesn't cover private companies.  it certainly covers them outside of the Internet.  As I recall, there have been cases establishing that the law covers Internet sites, or at least sites like Amazon which are the Internet equivalent of public places.

Perhaps the ADA should be amended to cover private companies as well...
Though I'm not in the US and so can't really petition Congress, but maybe someone in the US could create an online petition to ask Congress to amend the ADA to cover private companies. This is not about regulating the internet, this is about protecting the rights of people with disabilities.

Yeah, I'm using Windows 10. I know only one of them as a Windows 10 user.

Well gee Ron I guess you don’t want to be an advocate for the blind then huh? I don’t belong to either crazy blindness org, but I’m only 1 individual blind dude and it doesn’t hurt to contact these tech giants with our concerns regardless of our disability. We need to work with our current admin in the WH like it or lump it.

Hi Group,

I hate to be the barer of bad news, but with continued deregulation of the Internet and an absolute abandonment of accessibility in education by the  current crowd in Washington, I think more and more, such appeals will fall on  deaf ears.  We're simply too small a market to justify the resources to create such accessibility instruments.

I wrote this little ditty to Facebook accessibility. I had the wrong address. However, I have commented on a Facebook post about this captcha issue. What I wrote follows. It probalby isn't perfect in tone.

"Hello. My name is Governor Staten. I'm sending this to remonstrate with you about this new captcha that has been implemented to prevent fake accounts. I"m a totally blind user, and this captcha is completely impossible for me to solve without sighted assistance, or some other tool I cannot yet access. I use your service every single day. Some things I do on it are deemed as essential to me, my friends, and organizations I am a part of.

Why is there no alternative given to make it possible for the blind to solve this captcha, therefore proving that we are not a spam account, and also proving we are human? Why is it that not being able to solve a purely visual construct makes us not human? It is honestly quite degrading to have it implied that because I cannot solve this captcha that I could be considered a spam account and not a real human being, the same human being who is writing this email to you. This issue is urgent and must be solved immediately!!!

Someone that is as dedicated to accessibility as your organization evidently is should not be making such errors as the one mentioned above. There are a few ways in which this can be solved. For instance, an audio captcha, or asking a question that we can then answer, proving we are human. One more way that I have just contemplated is to use the code generator to provide the answer to the captcha. Have a mode in which it provides these answers if you are blind and/or visually impaired. I'm sure there are other quite inventive ways I haven't yet thought of that could be used as well.

This is all to say that something must be done at your soonest opportunity to do so. I hope that this is not long languishing in a pile that is not urgent or not looked at."

Hello list. It now appears that Facebook is using a new captcha to prove
your account isn't spam. It's not the easiest thing in the world to
solve captchas at this time. I'm not willing to run an older version of
a browser to do so.

Another thing is that Facebook should make this test possible for the
blind to pass without much hassle. Has anyone else seen this new test
pop up? These things say we're not human because we can't read or solve
a picture puzzle. How ridiculous!!!
