Re: keyboard layouts

Antony Stone

I would suggest that if you have a numeric keypad, the desktop layout is
simpler and provides access to slightly more features.

However, in the same way that "the best camera in the world is the one you
have with you" and "the best programming language is the one you know how to
use", I would say that the NVDA keyboard layout which is easiest to use is the
one you know best and can work with most efficiently.

This is one of those subjective questions where different people will have
different opinions, which may not apply to you in the same way.

Antony.

The settings interface has been changed in newer versions of Chrome.  I have worked with the new interface a little to get a sense of how useable it is.  It is not well implemented for a blind keyboard user in some places in terms of seeing how to use it without experimentation.  But it can be used and, once you have instruction, it isn't difficult, just not intuitive, in certain places.

hi brian.
the last version of seamonkey now is 2.49.4 which its security fixes
are based on firefox 52.9
also, you can read its releasenotes hear.

I'd personally use waterfox myself which still works.

The reply by Shaun best describes what occurred. I was at

Moments later, I heard a beep tone and was informed FireFox was
updating. It took a few moments.
I then had the option to change search engines, or do not change
search engines, and I chose do not change.
I was somewhat in surprise at all this occurring.
I googled something about updates and learned that malicious updates
are on the rise as Gene indicated.
Scrolling through the program menu, my browser was now identified as
just FireFox not Mozilla FireFox.
Settings were changed.
Keyboard functions such as backspace, hyphen, period, comma, were not
read when pressed. My auto-signature was not read when in email. I had
to forward tab once when going to a website to access the link wanted.
Shall I say more?

I later changed the update criteria in advance settings after
restoring my computer to an earlier time. Now, updates are told to me
when they want to occur and I either say yes or ask me later.

I cannot ascertain for certain if this is Mozilla or a hack.
Nonetheless, It appears Mozilla as known, is returned. It's supposed
update occurred in November 2017.
No background service is doing any installations for me under the
current criteria. I'll be darn careful and use my MS Security

Before you go through the time and trouble of putting Windows 7 on the
machine, while XP is on it, find out the specifications of the machine
such as the chip speed and amount of RAM. If you don't know the minimum
requirements for Windows 7, let us know what you find out. The machine
may be able to run Windows 7 well or reasonably well, but it well may not
be able to.

As far as the latest version to run with XP, it doesn't matter at all for
what you are trying to do. Here is a link to the download page of the
latest version that runs in XP. You can run any version of NVDA as a
portable version without even having the program create a portable
version. When the installer runs and you have speech, you will be given
choices such as, install, create portable version, or keep running.
Select the keep running option.

Re: latest nvda that works on windows xp?

Antony Stone

There's a general formula you can use to work out the download link for any
version of NVDA from 2013.1 onwards.

To download release number N (where N is between 1 and 4) from year YYYY
(where YYYY is 2016, 2017, 2018 etc), the download link is:

https://www.nvaccess.org/download/nvda/releases/YYYY.N/nvda_YYYY.N.exe

Simply substitute the year and release number you want into the above URL and
you can download whichever version you want.

I don't know about getting a version earlier than 2013.1, but I seriously
doubt anyone really needs those.

It's been a while I have not seen update from this and tried to test this as well to beta version of nvda and unlikely the OCR function still not working perfectly because some text could read and some text could not recognize fully like giving such blank when pressing the Insert/NVDA plus R

Also, could the OCR recognizes fully the graphics for the image itself? Thanks.

Re: weird mozilla firefox update

i told firefox, not chrome.
because fortunately firefox 52 has not direct update to firefox quantum!
i tested with both windows xp and seven and hears the result.
in xp, as the last version which supports xp is 52esr, any version
that i install, if i dont disable updating and notification for update
completely, says that i upgrade my firefox 52.9esr,
it does not make a difference if i use previous regular version or esr ones.
all versions by default and not changing for its preferences, directs
me to firefox 52.9
but in windows seven which i tested, if i install any version before
version 56, they direct me to install version 56 and not quantum
versions!
if i install 56, it directs me to update for firefox quantum.
if i install firefox 45.9, 52.8 or any other esr versions of firefox,
all direct me to install firefox 52.9 thanks God!
if i install 52.9, thanks God, it does not offer me to install esr 60
version of firefox, as i mentioned before, because they dont have the
option to update to firefox quantum.
the only version which supports updating to firefox quantum, is
version 56 which can updates itself to the last and current version of
firefox quantum.

hello.
last month i decided to test firefox 52.9 and thanks God, it worked
great for me, without any hang, sluggishness or crash.
i keep and use this version forever and never update it!
also, fortunately, it never updates itself automaticly, because there
is no esr version of firefox since version 53 until 57 for firefox to
updates itself to it.\\
in all windows i believe, it does not updates itself and even i check
for update manualy,
thanks God it says firefox is up to date and i believe that this
version is only version that does not update itself automaticly!
it was a very important point for me whowish that keep and use one
version forever without any update!

Re: FireFox Issues Discussion

the last version of chrome which supports windows xp is version 49
which is for februrary oof 2016!
i use it, but it cant open some computer websites unfortunately!
also, i mean that firefox needs addon for javascript for making exception.
for example: i wish to turn off javascript for all websites, but allow
it only for four sites!
how can i do this in firefox without installing addon?

I should update my comments about noscript. The one issue I've noticed
with it is that you can't identify sites, at least I can't anyway. So
for example, suppose I'm on a site and pick noscript. I get to the top
and start going down the page, and I get an untrusted radio button, a
temp trusted radio button, and so on. When I get through all of the
stuff for one site, if I keep going down I get another untrusted radio
button, and so on. So I know that's for a different site, but I haven't
seen a way to find out what all of the sites are that it wants to have
permissions for. To be fair though, I haven't really done a lot of
looking around to find out if they show up. So if anybody figures it
out, do let us all know.
