Re: keyboard layouts

I would suggest that if you have a numeric keypad, the desktop layout is
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
simpler and provides access to slightly more features. However, in the same way that "the best camera in the world is the one you have with you" and "the best programming language is the one you know how to use", I would say that the NVDA keyboard layout which is easiest to use is the one you know best and can work with most efficiently. This is one of those subjective questions where different people will have different opinions, which may not apply to you in the same way. Regards, Antony.

Re: FireFox Issues Discussion

The settings interface has been changed in newer
versions of Chrome. I have worked with the new interface a little to get a
sense of how useable it is. It is not well implemented for a blind
keyboard user in some places in terms of seeing how to use it without
experimentation. But it can be used and, once you have instruction, it
isn't difficult, just not intuitive, in certain places.

As far as the latest version to run with XP, it
doesn't matter at all for what you are trying to do. Here is a link to the

Re: latest nvda that works on windows xp?

There's a general formula you can use to work out the download link for any
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
version of NVDA from 2013.1 onwards. To download release number N (where N is between 1 and 4) from year YYYY (where YYYY is 2016, 2017, 2018 etc), the download link is: https://www.nvaccess.org/download/nvda/releases/YYYY.N/nvda_YYYY.N.exe Simply substitute the year and release number you want into the above URL and you can download whichever version you want. I don't know about getting a version earlier than 2013.1, but I seriously doubt anyone really needs those. Antony.

Microsoft Security Essentials is still working on windows 7 here. I also manually update and run superantispyware. A word of warning though, as the latest installer seems to need screen navigation to find the I Agree button when the text is displayed, and you need to launch the product from the try for it to be in focus for normal nvda usage. I suspect they have messed up the mssa somewhere when it auto launches or is started from the desktop though of course screen nave and nvda and keypad enter still action stuff OK, its just a bit awkward.

because fortunately firefox 52 has not direct update to firefox quantum! i tested with both windows xp and seven and hears the result. in xp, as the last version which supports xp is 52esr, any version that i install, if i dont disable updating and notification for update completely, says that i upgrade my firefox 52.9esr, it does not make a difference if i use previous regular version or esr ones. all versions by default and not changing for its preferences, directs me to firefox 52.9 but in windows seven which i tested, if i install any version before version 56, they direct me to install version 56 and not quantum versions! if i install 56, it directs me to update for firefox quantum. if i install firefox 45.9, 52.8 or any other esr versions of firefox, all direct me to install firefox 52.9 thanks God! if i install 52.9, thanks God, it does not offer me to install esr 60 version of firefox, as i mentioned before, because they dont have the option to update to firefox quantum. the only version which supports updating to firefox quantum, is version 56 which can updates itself to the last and current version of firefox quantum.

I should update my comments about noscript. The one issue I've noticed with it is that you can't identify sites, at least I can't anyway. So for example, suppose I'm on a site and pick noscript. I get to the top and start going down the page, and I get an untrusted radio button, a temp trusted radio button, and so on. When I get through all of the stuff for one site, if I keep going down I get another untrusted radio button, and so on. So I know that's for a different site, but I haven't seen a way to find out what all of the sites are that it wants to have permissions for. To be fair though, I haven't really done a lot of looking around to find out if they show up. So if anybody figures it out, do let us all know.
