Hi, everyone,

Just want to admit that I was wrong about the blind mice megamall site not
being accessible. I just became a member. To the person who said that the
site is not accessible, you have to look at the form in browse mode. Then
you can fill it out. I looked at the site in both firefox and internet
explorer. This is a great lesson to learn for all of us--not to jump to
conclusions.

Re: Portable copy of NVDA not working on laptop

hurrikennyandopo ...

Hi

If you do it on a CD nvda must be in a directory called nvda and there
is a autorun.inf file that must be installed in the root directory of
the CD.

Also in later versions of windows now you have to go into the control
panel then autoplay part of it make sure the check box is checked to see
all devices and the following turned on  right down near the bottom
called Software and games Install or run program from your media

If you look under the nvda audio tutorials page there are different ways
of starting nvda also putting it onto a CD and USB stick.

You will need to jump down by headings to you hear it either for a cd or
usb stick.

Actually I think that statement means that you can run it from a CD, but if you want to do that you need to run it from the installer, not the portable package that's created from tools>create portable copy.

So, you need to use a USB stick instead.

I installed this thing, but it doesn't appear to show up in the list of synths in nvda.  I only see eSpeak NG and speech player in eSpeak.  I see nothing of eSpeak SAPI 5.  Am I missing something?  Also, I wonder if this will work with Narrator?

Thanks.

In this case, pressing Alt+tab to try to switch to any of the open windows didn't work for me. I can't remember what else I tried.

I'll set aside some time and attempt to reproduce.

I'm not sure this is a problem. It is very common, when I close a program
that I am not actually in any program. I may hear something when I read the
title bar suchh as the name of the program I was just in or some related
name. If I go to the desktop, everything is as it should be and if I alt
tab around, everything is normal with no window open that shouldn't be.
This is with Windows XP. I use Windows 7 but not with enough use or variety
of use to say if this happens in that version.

Is the original problem as I described or is it that NVDA stops speaking no
matter what you do and you must close and run it again?

Just tried to duplicate this. Indeed after closing the system information
with alt f4 it seems that NVDA goes silent. after the alt f4 is pressed
Nvda says unknown. Sighted help says I am back to the desktop and nothing
is shown besides my normal desktop. However if you hit windows key m
speech returns. Seems that something is open that is minimized by windows
key m.

Actually, I'd not be so charitable myself. There is precious little help too

figure it out and in my case even in browse mode it jumped about to the
wrong fields.
It could be done much more intuitively and with more help for people.

Hi, everyone,

Just want to admit that I was wrong about the blind mice megamall site
not
being accessible. I just became a member. To the person who said that the
site is not accessible, you have to look at the form in browse mode. Then
you can fill it out. I looked at the site in both firefox and internet
explorer. This is a great lesson to learn for all of us--not to jump to
conclusions.

Gene

I'm trying a new e-mail address, if anyone notices the difference.

please stop assuming and generalizing from your own experience.  This is your problem for some unknown reason.  I haven't had it and no one else, that I recall, has reported it.  If I look at the login form and down arrow through the fields, everything reads properly.
