Softwares to compose music for the blind

Marco Oros

Hi!

I don't know, if I've asked It, but I would like to compose music, also enter It to the notes. What is good software for the blind, used with NVDA for this purpose?

Thank You.

Marco

Re: itunes issue

Just use a older version of iTunes, if its giving so much grief

Personally I use iTunes 12.6 for business, which still supports apps and ringtonesand doesn’t update or ask you to all the time

Hi.

well just tried versions of nvda 2017, 2016 2015, 2014 and 2012, same

issues so no help there I also tried 2018.3rc1 here and no joy.

In addition my speech went away and I had to doddle in narator in nvda

preffs to get it back, but the trying a different version path doesn't

work, its probably got to do with the fact that itunes is an app just

like all the other apps.

Re: Automatic Reading of Footnotes in Word

One to to achieve this could be converting the file into the pdf and then converting it back again to word. The footnotes will become the part of the main text and you would be able to read them with say all command.

Re: COLUMN AND ROW HEADINGS

Cearbhall O'Meadhra

Quentin,

Very timely! I use excel a lot and need row and column headings spoken. However, when I go to Outlook, this setting causes NVDA to say Subject before speaking the email subject line as it appears in the Inbox. I have just followed your advice here and I now have a spreadsheet profile attached to Excel that turns on the row and column headings and another profile called email that is attached to Outlook that has all table detection turned off. I can now switch comfortably between the two applications without the nuisance of extra unwanted verbiage!

I really appreciate your advice.

All the best,

Cearbhall

Subject: Re: [nvda] COLUMN AND ROW HEADINGS

To go one step further with that, if you never want column and row headings reported in say Firefox, but do want them in Excel, you can use "configuration profiles" to do it.

1. Set NVDA up how you "normally" want it.

2. Open the program you want setup differently (eg Firefox)

3. Choose "Configuration profiles" from the NVDA menu, or press NVDA+control+p.

4. Press alt+n to create a new profile

5. Press tab to move to "Use this profile for".

6. Press the right arrow to select the "Current application (Firefox)" radio button.

7. Press enter to create the profile (the name that we left blank between steps 4 and 5 is automatically filled in with the program name - Firefox in this case).

8. In Firefox, make any changes, such as turning off reporting of row and column headers.

Now that the profile is setup, any changes you make to most NVDA settings while that program is the active window, are saved to its profile (eg, changing keyboard echo, the speech rate, punctuation or even synthesizer).

(as always, for more useful tips like this, check out "Basic Training for NVDA" in eBook, audio or Braille from http://www.nvaccess.org/shop/)

Quentin.

Hi List

This is just a bit of information for those who don’t know.

When one reads information on Wikipedia, NVDA repeats the row and column headers by default.  This can be annoying when trying to read tables of information in browse mode, therefore, use the following steps to switch off row and column headings in NVDA:

  • Press NVDA+Ctrl+D to go to the “Document and Formatting” dialog. (NVDA key = Insert, numpad 0 or Capslock depending on the setting)
  • Press Alt+E twice to go to “row and Column headings”.
  • Press the Spacebar to check or uncheck the checkbox.
  • Enter to apply this setting.

Kind regards

Hi Paul,

Press WINDOWS+. or WINDOWS+; to open the emoji panel, then either right
arrow through the items in the current section, press tab to move to the
sections and arrows to choose a new section, or start typing to search for
emoji, eg "cake"
🍰, "Smiling" or "firetruck" 🚒 (as with many other
search fields, you don't necessarily have to type the full thing - I typed
"fire" to narrow the results down to a handful to get the fire truck).

Press ENTER to insert your chosen emoji, and escape to close the panel.

best forum members,

I have downloaded the nvda 2018.3 rc1 and put it into use.

but I am not entirely positive, there is still something here and there.

Like, I have already experienced a number of times, that I used the

emoticon add-on, often it goes well but suddenly without any apparent

reason it gets stuck.

With alt tab I can then go back to the text where I wanted to place an

emoji.

but it is not going well. Only after I have restarted nvda again can I

place an emoticon again.

are there more people who have the same problem?

with nvda 2018.2 I did not have these problems.

do I have to update the emoticon add-on?

is it available?

with a curious greeting

Re: itunes latest issue

if you do switch to android, you will probably like it a lot. there are lots and lots of apps that are accessible with it.

Re: itunes issue on nvda

Well to be honest, if you can sync stuff to itunes your itunes media folder is accessible, you can use that to pull things like music, etc to your drive or phone, you can probably use narator to import data to.

There is sincios but I am not sure about accessibility probably isn't.

But if this is only an nvda issue and it not seeing the window well who knows.

I don't know about other versions but some others can try, as far as I know, itunes 12.9 is the same as the universal app now, so in theory we have 1 module to handle, we get this with 1 of them we get both.

Itunes itself isn't that bad of the last couple versions, sure its clunky but so is outlook.

The thing is store and their apple music subscription.

You can get apps like contacts backup and if you can backup to the cloud and use icloud for windows it will work ok I guess, icloud has some inaccessible screens but you can get where you need to go easily enough with a bit of fiddling.

Contacts can be backed up to icloud and with programs like my contacts backup and you can dropbox the resultant file.

If you use something like google calendar for calendars that will be fine.

As for data since all apps store a lot in the cloud there is probably nothing you'd really need bar contacts.

Hi.

Well if its an nvda issue maybe we can get an addon for this, it seems to be limited to the main window not being able to be seen that includes message boxes like dialogs, it doesn't cover menus, dialogs or property pages.

I have not heard anything from dolphin so I have to assume nvda is the only one with the issue.

It does appear that itunes universal app and itunes desktop use the same interface now.

But yeah its a shame really.

Luckily I don't need to touch the server databases, thank god they are sorted out now, now as long as I never need to reformat the server or keep the databases backed up then I have no issue, technically as long as the data drive continues to function we shouldn't ever loose any data at all but still it is a pain.

For now I can probably make it with narator.

It will work I do hope well enough to sync/ backup/ update the iphone I have for my aunt, which is about the only thing I use itunes for.

best forum members,

Hello folks

As the old version of skype stopped running, even the shortcuts that we used to use aren’t any longer used for other new versions.

If there is someone that is using one of the latest skype version for pc. I would be very greatful if he send me the version number and the shortcuts to use it please, I really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

One tricky thing I find with Emoji is that different platforms have different icons for them so things can look quite different.  Sometimes I hear NVDA describe an emoji and my first reaction is "Really? Is THAT was that thing is meant to be?"

Regards

Quentin.

Yep, I wasn't judging them - I haven't seen their code, all I see the end results for users :)

Yes I saw the Russian problem or something like it on their mailing list a few days back. You are right, they fix one thing and break another. Reading between the lines I gather that they are trying to work with code that to be kind was brought into being in an organic fashion and things break due to the ramifications of a change not being obvious to the new team.
They seem to be trying to make things more ordered and certain things always fixed in the same way, not patched up as it seems it has been before.
However I still use the speech player in Espeak add on but with the old voice files. It stops a lot of the weird UK English problems.

I did see it here.  I passed it on to Mick, as this is exactly the kind of
thing we are looking for.  I haven't had a chance to speak with him yet
about how to proceed.  Every eSpeak release lately seems to be a two-edged
sword - fixing some bugs and introducing others!

I think you need to raise a ticket on nvdas gather site for this as I
doubt anyone will see it here.
In the meantime,  speech player in Espeak is still downloadable as an add
on and is an older version of Espeak but I cannot comment on how it affects
Russian obviously, but the same variants are there.

hello, i am from russia and i using espeak. in changelog i noticed that
the synthesizer was updated. unfortunately because of the update, some
words and prepositions were pronounced very strange. I can not explain it
to people who do not know Russian, but it sounds unpleasant.
is it possible to not update the synthesizer in the release, or to find
the source of the problem?

itunes issue on nvda
