Well, if you downloaded it in firefox or similar, bring up the downloads and using context menu, go to open containing folder.

If on the other hand you just saved the message with the link on its most likely to be in your documents somewhere!

It may be from an addon, I know Screen Curtain beeps to tell you that it's running on NVDA startup.

It might be an error indication which the rc and release versions have turned off.

The free version does as well.  You have to use the Microsoft compatibility pack.

LibreOffice should work. I have more experience with OpenOffice but they are very similar, and Libre does seem to work better with NVDA. You can access .docx documents, but I do not believe you can save in that format, only in older MS word .doc formats. But MS office is downward compatible with these formats anyway, so anyone needing to read your documents with MS's product should have no trouble.

You can use wordpad open .docx file on win10
But it accept simple word only
If the file contains a form, a picture, etc., it will look very
unintuitive.

You can still get older versions though, even the xp one.
However I still say install it as a portable on another part of your drive and just add a manual shortcut, or use my batch file in each folder to run it. If you cannot figure out how to do that, I'll post it again. Brian

You could use a portable version for the old add on and use the newest for other tasks. i wrote a very dimple batch file to switch to and fro between nvda portable and installed versions for similar reasons a while back.

Maybe Joseph might be persuaded to support the lode software in the newer add on since there will be a lot of people who cannot afford to update when the old version does what they need. Some people who use this on internet stations get it gifted at the start, but not the updates.

Hello. I was wondering what is the latest version of the virtual audio

not get that to launch which is version 43 and I tried an older version
think it was 15 I did install that version and I had to get my husband
who is sighted to completely uninstall the older version to get my sound
back that is so weird how when the computer restarted the sounds were
disabled. So he had to uninstall the older version 15 and I got my sound
back. I did install the add on but is there another program that would
work in recording music or whatever from the computer that does work
with NVDA I did try audacity but no luck there. How about gold wave and
since am on windows 10 with the latest update from the spring 2018
update to the current version what would work as to what I have it is
getting harder to find anything that is accessible. So any help would be
awesome. Thank you.

If you focus on either the desktop, or the notification/system tray portion of the windows UI, and then tab around until you are focused on what gets announced as the task view button, invoke the context menu, and arrow up to taskbar settings, and hit enter on it.

Then tab over to the item called "Select which icons appear on the taskbar ", and, hit enter on it.

That will bring up a window where you can tab around, activating checkboxes for all system tray icons to make them appear, or not, and, there will be a couple of them mentioned there for NVDA, which you can activate, and the icon should then appear in the system tray.

Hi All,

I am using the latest win 10 and nvda rc3.  I noticed that the nvda icon doesn’t show up in the system tray.  Is there a setting I need to check to get it to show up?  Thanks for any help.

Re: the latest virtual audio cable software to work with nvda

The Gamages

Hello,

Audacity does work, but you need to set the preferences.
1, Open Audacity,
2, press the alt key,
3, arrow right to edit and then up to preferences , press enter,
4, you land on a list and the top one is devices, if you don't land on
this presshome or up arrow until you do,
press tab, you land on the host, the top one is what you want, it's
called MMe, but NVDA announces it as Madam, focus on this ,
5, press tab again and you land on your playback device, probably only
one unless you have other things plugged into your computer,
6, press tab again and you land on the list of recording devices, up and
down arrow and, if you have "stereo mix" focus on it and tab to OK and
press enter, if you don't have stereo mix, shift and tab bafk to the
list of hosts and choose Windows WA sappie, tab on to the recording
devices and choose Speakers loop back, tab on to OK and press enter.

In either of these cases you will be set for recording any sound you can
hear on your speakers or headphones, it used to be called "what you
hear", so it's probably best to do as Brian suggests and mute the system
sounds, it will also record your screen reader, so just use the
keystrokes mentioned below to record, pause etc.

To start recording, press the letter R,
to pause and resume press the letter P, to stop recording press the
space bar and to play back press the space bar again.

To save the track, use the Export item in the file menu, if you use save
as you will save the project in Audacity format.
This all sounds a lot, but in practice it's only a few keystrokes and,
once set, the settings will remain until you change them.

Good luck.

,

Best Regards, Jim.

Subject: [nvda] the latest virtual audio cable software to work with
nvda

Hello. I was wondering what is the latest version of the virtual audio
cable software to work with NVDA and I did go to the website and could
not get that to launch which is version 43 and I tried an older version
think it was 15 I did install that version and I had to get my husband
who is sighted to completely uninstall the older version to get my sound
back that is so weird how when the computer restarted the sounds were
So any help would be
awesome. Thank you.

Re: beeping when nvda restarts

It was what I thought when I saw this topic. Sometimes we install some programs then we completely forget we did it. It should be the cause  of this problem...

Here's my suggestions:
1. Try to run NVDA without any addon enabled.
2. If the problem persists, try to completely uninstall NVDA and don't forget to remove the folder in Appdata.
3. Try to reinstall NVDA after step 2 and let's see what happen.

Hope this helps

Cheers,
Marcio

It may be from an addon, I know Screen Curtain beeps to tell you that it's running on NVDA startup.

Hello list. I can't remember when this started. When I restart NVDA, or restart computer, NVDA beeps or causes a beep. It's a very short C note, maybe a tenth of a second. How would I begin to track this one down? My Dell support software says there are no issues with hardware.

Further, this does not occur when I use Narrator, either starting it up or setting it up to be used from startup of the machine. Any help with this one would be much appreciated. Much thanks to all in advance.
