Re: Hi what is this missing file?

For a browser user, is there any meaningful advantage in using the player instead of directly using the web page itself?  I used the web page yesterday.  With book marks in a browser and since you can use the controls on a web page, is that sufficient?  Also, it isn't clear to me whether the player will continue to work after a few months, that is, the one you might want to use now on a computer.  It might be important to find out if people want to use something like that instead of the web site.

Hello,

Can you supply a link to the BBC radio I player download?
I found what I think it is, but confirmation would be appreciated, thank you.

People are increasingly referring to applications as apps.  They aren't, but people have increasingly less respect for language and English is becoming increasingly imprecise and ambiguous.  I'm not familiar enough with the BBC site to comment much on the player but from the little I've used it, it looks to me like an embedded player and it appeared properly accessible to me with a standard browser.  It may be that at some time in the past, the Webbie program was helpful in using the player.  I am doubtful it is either necessary or particularly beneficial now, though I hope thos who use the player comment on that question.  I've played audio using a standard browser without problems  when I've used the site off and on.

I saw something about the player being retired in the next few months.  But I have no idea what is being referred to.  Is there a player for mobile use and one on the web site itself for browser use?

My mistake, perhaps they should specify “mobile” app but if you have a look at the BBC site for I player radio, they continually call it an app, not an application, so it’s an abreviation, I should make it clear that I am talking about the actual PC I player radio now, on the BBC site,

So it’s a bit confusing. I don’t know if the actual BBC program will be accessible now, it didn’t used to be, which is the reason for Webbie, and, to come back to the original point, Webbie I player radio doesn’t work for me and I know of at leat three others who can’t use it either, so is that because the BBC is updating again? this happened before when Webbie had to do a lot of work to make it accessible. Incidentally, BBC live radio still works with Webbie.

It isn't clear to me how, if at all, this app will affect listening with a computer.  What is being discussed is an app, not an application.  It is a mobile app.  I saw a statement that the BBC player in current use will be stopped.  But does that mean how you listen on the web site with a computer itself will change?

This article makes it very clear that the new release is an app.

I doubt you can tell from the article whether there are accessibility proboems.  If you saw a sighted person's description of Windows, how accessible would you think it is just based on that?

In addition, the link you gave isn't correct.  How did you get it?  the correct link is:

Hello,

Thankss to all who replied.

It looks like the BBC are to ditch the I player radio in favour of a new app, a quick look at some of the details seems to suggest problems with accessability, I hope I am wrong, but judge for yourself , the following address is where I got the details.

This is probably why the Webbie stuff is out of date, let’s hope it gets updated to cover the new, “improved” app.

Re: Hi what is this missing file?

Gene

I don't expect anyone to speak or write properly because almost no one does.

I looked at the BBc web site yesterday and played a station, BBC 3 as I recall.  The player worked just as it should have.  I could use the b command to move to the buttons that control the player.  In a podcast, there may be other controls such as a slider to move through the podcast, I didn't try a podcast or an archived program.

I saw a message from someone today saying that they use the player with no problems.

I think its important to not assume that a special program is necessary just because there is one.  It may have been necessary or useful at one time and not now, or it may have either made using something easier or was thought to do so by the developer and it may not have.  In other words, if a specialized program you use stops working with something, try the expected way, if there is one.
There may be times when there is no or little point in doing so but unless you really know, you are assuming without sufficient reason.

You'll notice that's a direct download link. Please note also that
this is *not* an official addon of the NVDA community. Caveat emptor.

Re: contact you off list

This will be my last message regarding "the footer issue" until or unless Mark comes back with something indicating he's made a change.

First, I will apologize to folks, because my memory of "the footer cluster" only applies to HTML formatted e-mail messages from Groups.io.  This is the default format, and the vast majority of traffic I see from all groups when I'm in individual message mode comes to me this way.  That being said, if a user changes the "send format" that they use to plain text email under groups.io the "Reply to Sender" link/function will not be available at the end of plain text messages.  I have never been on any group, including this one or any of the blind and low-vision technology groups, where the bulk of the membership in said group has gone in to their account settings on the Groups.io website and set their e-mail send format to plain text.

Mark has said he will look into trying to create a function in the plain text messages that would allow for the "Reply to Sender" function, or something quite similar to it, that's part and parcel of each and every HTML e-mail that goes out from Groups.io to be available in plain text messages as well.  My guess is that this will be at or near the bottom of the priority list, since relatively few users choose to set their send option to plain text so relatively few recipients ever get a plain text message from a Groups.io group.

If you have an individual message from Groups.io that does not have a "Reply to Sender" link after the main body of the message the only reason that should occur is if the originating party has tweaked their Groups.io account preferences (https://groups.io/account?page=prefs), Post Preference item to "Plain text."  As an aside, I have seen someone recently asking why they did not get a copy of their own message when they posted.  That's not the default behavior, either, since it is reasonable to believe that most are not interested in seeing what they've written themselves.  There is a checkbox at the bottom of the preferences page for, "I always want copies of my own messages," and it is unchecked by default.

Finally was able to bring up the elements list, NVDA f-7. I still rather use FX 52.x. as said page don't refresh. That is, if that's whats going on, as it does in latest version of FX, 60.2.0. I haven't added any ad ons yet. Thank you.

Nance, is this a triple talk USB or another variant? Does it have a battery?

Hello,
I think I've posted another message about this topic but I don't know if anyone read it, since I had no answers.

Guys, on the latest version of NVDA, there's any way to disable and enable emojis' reading?
I really appreciated the way NVDA works with emojis for now, but I don't always want this reading, because in certain places such as forums and other websites where people post comments about anything, this can be very annoying NVDA saying all emojis after and before the comment or something like that.

Hope anyone can help me with this.

Thanks in advance

Marcio

Best Regards, Jim.
