Nvda certification exam

Claire Potter <claire.potter99@...>

Hi all, I have a question regarding the current online certification exam which people can take for NVDA. I have noticed that the questions are about version 17.3, and I wanted to know if there are any plans to update the exam to make it more relevant to the current release of NVDA, as I try to prepare for the exam it is very diffcult to make sure I am revising with the right information, a classic example being the Basic Training book which is now revevant to newer versions of NVDA than what the exam covers, and although most of the information is the same, it is extremely confusing when it comes to taking the exam.

Warm regards, Claire Potter,   Check out my brand new website: www.pottersplace.me.uk

Hope,

Thanks for sharing that information.   Very useful to know.

Hi Brian, you can always extract an RSS feed from an iTunes and/or SoundCloud page using this service. http://getrssfeed.com/ I never use iTunes, but I always use this to get RSS feeds for the podcasts.

Hi, here’s an RSS feed for this podcast, which will probably make it easier. You can just download the files that are attached. https://audioboom.com/users/1117363/posts.rss

JAWS has a mouse over function.  NVDA doesn't.  I don't know if JAWS would be at all useful in this context because I don't know what happens on screen when you hover the mouse over a listen link.

You can move the mouse to your current position with NVDA but that isn't the full ability that is necessary to work with mouse over links as you do in JAWS.  JAWS announces where a change on the screen takes place and offers a jump to dialog so you can enter the position information to move there and see what has changed on screen.  JAWS also has a way for you to jump back to the previous position.  In NVDA, the ability to move the mouse is just so you can left click something after you move the mouse.  it has nothing to do with telling you or allowing you to work with any changes on screen related to a mouse over function.

Ted,

Normally I'd love to help you (or almost anyone) out, but since this is an iTunes page, and I do not have iTunes nor an iTunes account the things you see when you land on this page and what I'm presented with are totally different.

I know that mouse over has been discussed here before, and I would have sworn there were actually mouse over commands documented for NVDA, but I'm not finding them in the latest documentation.  I'll take a quick look at the archive and see if I can find any topics that cover dealing with mouse over menus.

I've tried to use I-Tunes podcasts before and it can't be done from the keyboard.  Whether you might be able to do so by moving a physical mouse around the screen and having NVDA announce what is under the mouse is something I haven't tried.

I've also wondered if someone would put the actual I-Tunes Windows utility on their computer, if they might be able to listen to the podcasts that way.  Maybe others can answer those questions.

Re: Update: Openwith Barely Usable

Hi,

Ah, this one – although the add-on did some important things in the past, some of those important ones are now part of NVDA.

Things Windows 10 App Essentials can do include:

  • Suppressing unnecessary notifications in Calculator.
  • Announcing more alerts in Microsoft Edge.
  • Fixing bugs here and there in Settings app.
  • Providing needed commands for Skype in older Skype releases.
  • Announcing suggestion count (not just sounds) in some cases.
  • Improved access to Weather app and reading forecasts.

Things transferred to NVDA:

  • Search suggestion sounds.
  • Reading live text in various apps.
  • Detecting and reading dialogs in universal apps.
  • Working with emoji panel.
  • Reading text from dictation panel.
  • Announcing hardware keyboard input suggestions.
  • Navigating cloud clipboard history/paste screen (October 2018 Update).
  • Announcing notifications from various apps.

In fact, NVDA 2018.3.x includes important parts of Windows 10 App Essentials, namely working with modern Windows 10 input features and dialog detection.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: Addon Updater

Hi,
That button will open the add-ons website. The link to the add-on in question is under "add-ons under development". I have no intention of declaring Add-on Updater as stable, as it is really an add-on to test a feature planned for NVDA (and also because there is already a pull request for this feature).
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi Georges,

Where do I find it, thanks.

Did you ever use the Google Search with the keywords "nvda" and "add-ons"?

Hi,
By the way, Openwith also works if I press Tab key, so I think this may have
nothing to do with my add-on; I'll keep all possibilities open (and delay my
vacation for a bit).

Just tried getting this from the below link and also directly from the nvda add ons site.  Failed both times.  Hope someone on the add ons site can correct this.

Thanks.

The problem is the link that was mentioned below is https instead of http

So, I pressume needs to be correct the path which is confusing and when you click the link it will gives you insecure connection and as for workaround you need to remove the letter s at the address bar or navigation address to manually before you got the addons itself correctly.

Again, pasting the link of the direct link path in where I got from the site of the NVDA in where the problem occurs.
