What about files being lost? Someone on another forum said all his files in his documents folder disappeared after he upgraded. I know it's a good idea to back things up before upgrading, but I'm wondering if anyone else had this experience after upgrading.

Re: google chrome

Gene

I'm not sure why that is but the work around is easy and very effective and efficient.  Use either control enter or shift enter.  Control enter opens the link in a new tab.  To close the tab containing the new page, use the command control f4.  That returns you to the tab you were in previously, containing the previous page and closes the tab you are currently in.  Or shift enter does a similar thing.  It opens the new page in a new window.  To close the new window and return to the previous window containing the previous page, use alt f4.  I don't know if one is faster than the other to open and close new pages.  You may want to compare.

As I think about it, I suspect the reason you can't use the back command currently is that all new pages may be opening in new tabs.  So the first option I discussed may be occurring automatically at this time.  But to make sure that whatever option you want always happens using one of the commands I gave, control or shift enter, might be the most reliable method.

If you wish, you can see what is happening when you just press enter by seeing if more than one tab is opened after following a link with just enter.  The command to move among opened tabs is control tab.  Alt tab is the way to move among more than one opened browser window if you want to do that when using shift enter to open a new window instead of a new tab.

It never for me showed folder sizes. What you could do in the sub linux command line is maybe a du -sh the path/to/folder. I know, tedious but it works, or maybe thats unix. But anyway, good lck.

I have found that the win 10 1809 disk cleanup has added a option to delete everything in your documents folder.  Make sure to not selete this option if you don't want your documents folder cleared out.

I had a strange situation this morning where I was doing stuff with NVDA and Chrome and I SHIFT+TABBED and ended up on the address bar. That would have been fine, but I couldn't get back to what I was writing in Facebook. F6? TAB? SHIFT+TAB? Nothing worked! When others experience this, is there a magic key combination to get back to the web page? The only way I got back into what I was writing was by moving my finger around on the mouse pad until I heard something on the page and did an actual left-click on the physical mouse and the page came back in focus.

NVDA and the audible app

Chris Shook <chris0309@...>

Hi,
This is mainlya request for the developers, but I'm posting it here hoping someone tells me I am mistaken.
I use the Aubible website for Audio book purchases and downloads. I conteacted Audible with a request of helping me fix an issue with the Audible download manager.
WHile they helped me fix the issue, the woman warned me that they would eventually phase out the Audible download manager because of the Audible app for Windows 10.
As of right now, unless I am very much mistaken, NVDA nor JAWS will work with the Audible app for Windows 10.
I would ask that someone look into this as it may become necessary for those of us that use the website to use the app to download books in the future.
The lady I talked to said she could not give me a time frame on when they would do away with the Audible download manager, but that they had already stopped updating it.
Regards
Chris

Category: Trojan

Affected items: file: E:\NVDA Portable\userConfig\addons\remote\globalPlugins\remoteClient\url_handler.exe

It has to connect to a server of course, and this is probably why its considered an issue. This came up ages ago with a different anti virus, and the answer was to allow that file to be accepted by the system. Maybe the new version of the add on has a different named file and thus its not covered.

Hi!
In any case, the file it flagged is not part of NVDA's core but of the
Remote add-on which, in some sense, does execute instructions from
outside. What I find strange is that there is such an exe file inside
the add-on.
