Anyone having issues with the latest basic training for NVDA?
Mobeen Iqbal
Hello Everyone.
I am having a problem accessing the latest edition of the basic training for NVDA archive. When I placed my order last year, I was able to download a zip archive containing different formats of the book. I recently decided to download the latest archive to take in to account latest improvements in NVDA. When downloading the basic_training_for_NVDA-NVAccess-20180615.zip archive, it only contains an HTML copy of the book. Are the other formats no longer being produced? Is there any way of downloading the latest edition in multiple formats without me having to convert them all manually? Very best wishes, Mo.

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
It sounds to me like there is a user profile for just word set up. Look at the profiles dialogue and see what you have set up. My guess is either that word has it set to sappi 5 or there is a say all rule set for that synth. I can think of no other reason for the symptoms you have.

Re: Windows10 Screen Reader in Word
#NVAccess
Sylvie Duchateau
Hello Sven, If you use the Microsoft OneCore voices in windows 10, there is also a multilingual support. You just need to install the voices you need. This is in the speech parmeters of Windows. Once you have installed the voices, changing languages work, I just tested it in a Word document written in French, German and English. 1. You have to make sure that language automatic detection is checked in Nvda parameters, speech, automatic language change. 2. In Word, when yo write in different languages, you have to check in the statuts bar, that your text selection is in the right language. Press f6 several times to reach the status bar, then use the arrow keys to read in which language the selection is. 3. When you read the document, the languages should work fine. I just tested the same document with Espeak and language changes work here. Do not hesitate if I can help. Best Sylvie

I‘ve got a strange problem in Word under Win10. The system is setup to use the NVDA eSpeak NG as screen reader now, because it is the only screen reader with multi-language support for Word, so it can read texts in English and German without problems. I‘ve used Microsoft Speech API v5 before, because the voice is very natural.

Re: Are There Now or Has There Recently Been a Problem with Donating . . .
Quentin Christensen
Brian, Are they coming from one of our pages to donate? On our donation page for instance: https://www.nvaccess.org/support-us/#donation-support it lists a range of suggested values, all in Australian dollars, with the last one in each row being an edit box you can change the value of. When you activate one of the buttons, it then takes you to PayPal ready to make a payment of that amount. I think once you give it your credit card details, it might work out where you are from and what amount it will withdraw in your local currency? If you go to PayPal's site and "Pay someone", then you can select the currency and choose either to send a set amount in your local currency - and it indicates how much we will receive in Australian dollars, or you can choose to donate an amount in Australian dollars and it advises how much that will be in your local currency. We did have a currency conversion widget on the old site, but it hadn't worked for some time, so we dropped it from the new site. Kind regards Quentin.

Hi Cearbhall,
Probably redundant replying now, but I will anyway :)
The main issue that I'm aware of, is that you need to be running Windows 7 with Service Pack 1. If you have an older version of Windows 7, you'll need to run NVDA 2017.3 until you update to SP1.
Otherwise, Windows 7 is certainly still supported, so if you do encounter anything else that doesn't work as expected, do please let us know.
Regards
Quentin.

Re: Files not showing
Tony Ballou
Hi,
Howard, if this is windows version 1809, unfortunately the files may be gone. Have you attempted to unzip the file since it tells you that there are 286 items in there overall?
Folks have been talking about this phenomenon on the list lately and I believe there's an article about it up here somewhere, however, I haven't found the message with the link to it in my mass of emails. So if anyone could repost that article, it would
be appreciated.
Just the other night my business partner told me that folks were losing their data after upgrading from 1803 to 1809. And in one such case a user lost over 250 Gigs of data. So it would appear that the first thing you'd want to do before upgrading to
windows 1809 would be to backup your c:\users\documents folder, and any other folders where you have documents and things that you feel are important to an external drive.

Re: Strange pronunciations
Quentin Christensen
Hi Walmir, Someone (possibly you?) reported this on Twitter as well and I created an issue on the eSpeak NG issue tracker here: https://github.com/espeak-ng/espeak-ng/issues/557 Feel free to subscribe to that or reply if you have more detail to add. If you do subscribe to the issue, feel free to prompt me when they fix and close it, and we'll look at updating the version of eSpeak NG we use in NVDA. NVDA doesn't automatically update eSpeak NG builds as new ones are released, but we'll make updating a priority when we know there are fixes in there that users are waiting on. Regards Quentin.

Re: Using Macrium Reflect Version 7 to Take A Full System Image Backup
Tony Ballou
Howdy,
Thanks mate. I've had a copy of this program for a while now but have yet to use it. Looks like from what I've been reading and hearing from numerous reputable sources, here on this list, in the wires, and in my personal network that this will definitely
come in handy prior to and after upgrading from windows 1803 to 1809. Tony

There has been much discussion on several groups about an entirely accessible backup utility with regard to actually taking a full system image backup. I have yet to find a backup and recovery utility that is 100% accessible in all respects, but Macrium Reflect, Version 7, is 100% accessible for creating a full system image backup for "the typical user" who keeps the typical disc arrangement under Windows where all OS files and user data files are on the C: drive.

Hi Claire, Thanks for raising this. I have recently updated the Basic Training material and I was working on the Word material. I must admit, I had intended to look at the exam and it had slipped my mind so I will catch up on my correspondence and then start looking at the certification exam. Kind regards Quentin.

I don't have any tutorials for Hyper-V, but did you end up finding any or getting any other responses? I happen to have a query from someone elsewhere on Hyper-V and I don't have any experience with it myself. Regards Quentin.

Re: closing the NVDA About window
Quentin Christensen
The Speech Viewer window stays visible on top of other Windows even when it does not have focus. While you can focus it and then press ALT+F4, the other way would be to press NVDA+n to open the NVDA menu, then T for tools, then S to toggle Speech Viewer (or down arrow a couple of times to get to it then enter). Kind regards Quentin.

I use Bitwarden (https://www.bitwarden.com). It's free except for things like a gigabyte of extra storage for keeping files safe, and it's open-source, which I love.

Re: NVDA 2018.3rc1 espeak problem with Russian language.
Quentin Christensen
Hi Alexander, We have created a test build of NVDA using the latest build of eSpeak, which should address the Russian pronunciation problems. Please try it and let me know whether it works or not. The build starts similar to any other NVDA download - once you run it, you can either install it, or continue running (as a portable version) - either should be fine to test this. Download the try build from this link: https://ci.appveyor.com/api/buildjobs/ece0x4n1oh02bpsn/artifacts/output%2Fnvda_snapshot_try-latestEspeak-16151%2C1acfc8d7.exe Kind regards Quentin.
