There has been much discussion on several groups about an entirely accessible backup utility with regard to actually taking a full system image backup.  I have yet to find a backup and recovery utility that is 100% accessible in all respects, but Macrium Reflect, Version 7, is 100% accessible for creating a full system image backup for "the typical user" who keeps the typical disc arrangement under Windows where all OS files and user data files are on the C: drive.

Given what's been happening over the last several days with the Windows 10 Version 1809 feature update it is really critical to take a full system image backup before it is applied.

You should be presented with a Save dialog shortly after activating the link. 

I went through this process from beginning to end using NVDA to control everything.  I cannot imagine that things should be different in JAWS and possibly even Narrator.  If there are any significant differences that you encounter please share them on this topic.

Kerryn, you should really inquire what your classmates are using to do
this, but I recommend downloading Xampp. You should download the .zip
version, as the .exe instaler is not accessible. Here is a direct

Not for the most part, in fact I would argue to an extent they have crippled Office's useability by refusing to abandon some really old keystrokes - for instance just on the ribbons, half the reason they are so hard to remember is that they aren't logical.  The Insert ribbon isn't alt+i, because they kept that for people wanting to use old Office 2003 shortcuts, so it's alt+n.  Similarly the View ribbon can't be alt+v in case an Office 2003 user only knows the old way of doing things, so the View ribbon is alt+w..  The Help ribbon is relegated to Alt+Y1.  Nothing is alt+d, yet the developer ribbon is alt+L, meaning the layout ribbon gets alt+p. 

 

To be honest, the whole thing is a nightmare.  So in short, I expect the reason control+shift+page+down doesn't work is not that they've just changed it, just that they've broken it and haven't fixed it...

I was about to say that CONTROL+PAGE UP and CONTROL+PAGE DOWN move to the
start of the previous or next page in Word, therefore to select a whole
page, move to the top of a page and press CONTROL+SHIFT+PAGE DOWN.  Then I
tried it and realised that (on Office 365 at least) moving between pages
works, but not selecting them.

So, I have a quick way for you which does use NVDA commands:

1) Move to the start of the page to be deleted.
2) Press NVDA+F9.  This is the review cursor command to "start marking"
text.
3) Press CONTROL+PAGE DOWN to move to the start of the next page.
4) Press the LEFT ARROW to go back one character.
5) Press NVDA+F10 once.  This selects the whole page.
6) Press DELETE.

The reason you have to use the left arrow to go back one character is that
the review cursor copy function takes the character to the right of the
cursor as well, so without that step you would delete the whole page and
the first character from the next page.

Meanwhile, I'm going to go see why CONTROL+SHIFT+PAGE DOWN doesn't work.

The website has been zipped you will need a program to unzip it. You can also do it with windows explorer but may be better to make a folder then put the files into it that is easy to find. Then it is a matter of just going to the index file with in the folder and pressing the enter key on it and use it like normal. As long as people have internet access they should be able to access audio files  etc.

 

There may be another tutorial been added on later this week so will update the link to the drop box account then.

The people we host with were alerted when i first noticed it and it has to be fixed on there end. I do not know when it will be back up but hopefully it is ASAP.

 

I guess this is maybe what you get some times when you host with a free provider? with no adds and only have to pay for the domain name.

 

It sounds pretty serious like the server hard drive took a dive?

 

If any one wants to access the material on it at present I can zip it up and drop box it until it comes back on line.

This will only be the website files not the audio files as every one has access to the internet mostly.

 

You will then need to unzip it and put it into a folder with the files. Then it is a matter of just accessing the index file for the website.

 

I might again even look at other options for hosting.

 

Let us know and can drop box to the list.

I have everything backed up so does my dad, but we have duplicates of stuff and I don't use the user folders, in fact I have my storage of my new documents to another folder on another drive entirely.

On my personal workstation on win7, right now everything is still done the dos way, I hardly if ever use the documents folders, the downloads folder is never left full of stuff like other users do.

I updated all systems and was happy I did it, I am going away end of next week and the worst that would happen was all systems would be down with updating unless I simply made win pro not update till I got back.

Now while everything is updated, all I need do is worry about a codec update or 2 which will not be that much of an issue.

The updates all went on today normally, mine got a mangled software distribution folder which I had to clear, however on 7 at least I got a service stack update straight after the main one so who knows.

    In my past writings on this subject, I've assumed that the problem

    known before the rollout?  Are there too few people in the

    Though he says
    none of his machines have had the issue. There was also so
    question marks
    about third party anti virusses maybe blocking the back up of

The website has been zipped you will need a program to unzip it. You can also do it with windows explorer but may be better to make a folder then put the files into it that is easy to find. Then it is a matter of just going to the index file with in the folder and pressing the enter key on it and use it like normal. As long as people have internet access they should be able to access audio files  etc.

 

There may be another tutorial been added on later this week so will update the link to the drop box account then.

The people we host with were alerted when i first noticed it and it has to be fixed on there end. I do not know when it will be back up but hopefully it is ASAP.

 

I guess this is maybe what you get some times when you host with a free provider? with no adds and only have to pay for the domain name.

 

It sounds pretty serious like the server hard drive took a dive?

 

If any one wants to access the material on it at present I can zip it up and drop box it until it comes back on line.

This will only be the website files not the audio files as every one has access to the internet mostly.

 

You will then need to unzip it and put it into a folder with the files. Then it is a matter of just accessing the index file for the website.

 

I might again even look at other options for hosting.

Not for the most part, in fact I would argue to an extent they have crippled Office's useability by refusing to abandon some really old keystrokes - for instance just on the ribbons, half the reason they are so hard to remember is that they aren't logical.  The Insert ribbon isn't alt+i, because they kept that for people wanting to use old Office 2003 shortcuts, so it's alt+n.  Similarly the View ribbon can't be alt+v in case an Office 2003 user only knows the old way of doing things, so the View ribbon is alt+w..  The Help ribbon is relegated to Alt+Y1.  Nothing is alt+d, yet the developer ribbon is alt+L, meaning the layout ribbon gets alt+p. 

 

To be honest, the whole thing is a nightmare.  So in short, I expect the reason control+shift+page+down doesn't work is not that they've just changed it, just that they've broken it and haven't fixed it...

I was about to say that CONTROL+PAGE UP and CONTROL+PAGE DOWN move to the
start of the previous or next page in Word, therefore to select a whole
page, move to the top of a page and press CONTROL+SHIFT+PAGE DOWN.  Then I
tried it and realised that (on Office 365 at least) moving between pages
works, but not selecting them.

So, I have a quick way for you which does use NVDA commands:

1) Move to the start of the page to be deleted.
2) Press NVDA+F9.  This is the review cursor command to "start marking"
text.
3) Press CONTROL+PAGE DOWN to move to the start of the next page.
4) Press the LEFT ARROW to go back one character.
5) Press NVDA+F10 once.  This selects the whole page.
6) Press DELETE.

The reason you have to use the left arrow to go back one character is that
the review cursor copy function takes the character to the right of the
cursor as well, so without that step you would delete the whole page and
the first character from the next page.

Meanwhile, I'm going to go see why CONTROL+SHIFT+PAGE DOWN doesn't work.

When I say choppy, I don't mean that it breaks up or anything. I mean
that when it gets fast enough, the ends of words and sentences sound, to
me at least, unnaturally cut off. I know a lot of people like way faster
speech than I do, and that's OK too.

Just to let you know the web site has come back on line it seemed it was a very series crash on there end. it may go up and down while they repopulate all the web sites on that server.


Hopefully nothing like this happens again for a very long long  ..... time again.


It is dated the 23rd of September so is the last update that was drop boxed to the list.

The website has been zipped you will need a program to unzip it. You can also do it with windows explorer but may be better to make a folder then put the files into it that is easy to find. Then it is a matter of just going to the index file with in the folder and pressing the enter key on it and use it like normal. As long as people have internet access they should be able to access audio files  etc.

 

There may be another tutorial been added on later this week so will update the link to the drop box account then.

The people we host with were alerted when i first noticed it and it has to be fixed on there end. I do not know when it will be back up but hopefully it is ASAP.

 

I guess this is maybe what you get some times when you host with a free provider? with no adds and only have to pay for the domain name.

 

It sounds pretty serious like the server hard drive took a dive?

 

If any one wants to access the material on it at present I can zip it up and drop box it until it comes back on line.

This will only be the website files not the audio files as every one has access to the internet mostly.

 

You will then need to unzip it and put it into a folder with the files. Then it is a matter of just accessing the index file for the website.

 

I might again even look at other options for hosting.

 

Let us know and can drop box to the list.

I upgraded manually and I was fine. I'm glad I didn't upgrade my  husband's computer, though, just in case. I never would've updated mine if I'd known there were problems because I don't usually upgrade on the day of or the day after even, but I was anxious to see if the update fixed the Explorer problem and it did--and thankfully, my files are still here. I do have the things I really want backed up though, so if my Documents folder had been wiped, it would've been somewhat disturbing but not alarming.

It may be worse than I thought.  it may be just plain neglegence. 
 
In my past writings on this subject, I've assumed that the problem in the latest major update was caused by defects in the insider program in identifying problems and the pressure of too frequent updates.  This comment in an article on the Kim Komando site raises the very real possibility that its just plain carelessness and neglegence.  This may become a major story and may result in major changes in how Microsoft handles updates. 
 
And this problem is yet another reminder to back up everything you don't want to lose.  If you don't, sooner or later, you'll lose a lot or all of your files because something is going to happen.

But in the old days, Windows didn't get a full upgrade every six months.  Service packs were infrequent--perhaps two or three or four years apart.  Windows 7 only had one.  Perhaps Microsoft should look through its records of who had problems with Windows 10 upgrades through Windows 10's history.  Perhaps they can identify certain combinations of hardware and software that are prone to problems.  They then can actively attempt to recruit members of the Insider program who run such combinations.  It appears the Insider program is not working as expected.

Windows rollout problems have been with us since the last millennium.  Remember Windows 98, it crashed, right there, on stage with  Bill Gates at the helm.

What is wrong with the insider program that this problem wasn't known before the rollout?  Are there too few people in the program?  Should there be more attention to trying to get more users who use Windows in different ways and on more varied equipment?  Microsoft is developing a reputation for bad rollouts, hardly helpful for the company achieving its goals of having people accept "Windows as a service." 

 

In an article I read yesterday from a reliable source, it was stated that both this major upgrade and the one before it had serious problems.  I don't recall the details now, but I recall reading about how the previous upgrade put some users machines into infinite bootup loops.  I don't recall what other problems may have been in that upgrade.  Again, what is wrong with the insider program that this wasn't caught?

Yes Jonathan Mosen was mentioning about it this very morning. Though he says
none of his machines have had the issue. There was also so question marks
about third party anti virusses maybe blocking the back up of files when
Windows tries to move them as well.

So who is going to sue for lost data?
 The more I hear the more I'm glad I'm on windows 7, even if it won't read
dropbox dialogue boxes any more.

Yah, when the win10 audible app becomes the only thing on windows I'm
going to be rethinking my audible, since the android app while
accessible only gives you drm-protected .aax files.

Anyway, uninstall that app if you haven't already, then reboot and try
a reinstall of the windows desktop application.

Just went through this found it yesterday fought with my computer, it
is not your machine, and got ahold of audible about half an hour ago.
This fixed it for me and site downloads are once again working.

First of all log in to your audible account, then hit enter on your
name, if your using jfw it will say hi whatever your name is
collapsed, arrowing around will now show Under that arrowing you'll
see your account status, for example mine said Gold Monthly.
Continuing to arrow down you'll get to account details, enter on that.
I should note that during this process you might have to log in again
depending on your browser settings. Arrow to update settings, and
scroll down or use heading navigation of NVDA to get to something that
says software verification. Under that there's a checkbox that for you
will be unchecked it says something like check for audible download
manager, check that, and then your good to go.

I am afraid it is already here and not 3 years away at least here in

UK

I found last night when I went to my audible Library the download
facility
now takes you to a so called “help” page which only gives the option of
using Audible iOS, Android, Echo etc and Windows 10.

There is an apparent option to use iTunes but if you follow the help on
that it states you need the Audible app installed.

As it is now imposible to download directly from the website this is
very
bad news indeed.

I tried to open a “chat”with Audible support but after stating the
problem
they did not respond at all- I waited for 30 minutes for any
acknowledgement.

So for me as of last night Audible appears inaccessible for blind
users
of Windows and also for devices like the victor Reader Stream/Trek and
Pocket Plextalk which could until last week support the playing of
Audible
books.

As I am now blocked from accessing something like 60 books that I have
paid for over the years I am not a happy customer.

Eventually covers a long period of potential time. Are they going to
cause problems for Windows 7 users and Windows 8 users while there are
still many around? This sounds like something that may be perhaps

years away. I don't know when support for Windows 8 ends and support

Also, why assume the worst case? Why contact blindness organizations
first? Why not discuss it with Audible and see what happens. Audible
has
a good record on accessibility. If there is a problem, talking with

may cause it to be solved.

I use the Aubible website for Audio book purchases and downloads. I
conteacted Audible with a request of helping me fix an issue with the
Audible download manager.
WHile they helped me fix the issue, the woman warned me that they
would
eventually phase out the Audible download manager because of the
Audible
app for Windows 10.
As of right now, unless I am very much mistaken, NVDA nor JAWS will
work
with the Audible app for Windows 10.
I would ask that someone look into this as it may become necessary
for
those of us that use the website to use the app to download books in
the
future.
The lady I talked to said she could not give me a time frame on when
they
would do away with the Audible download manager, but that they had
already
stopped updating it.

It has been brought to my attention that one, and only one, dialog during the installation of Macrium Reflect, Version 7, has accessibility issues unless you use one of the various screen readers' alternate cursor methods.  Two members of the Windows 10 for Screen Reader Users group have been kind enough to put together instructions for dealing with this dialog in each of the three major screen readers:  JAWS, Narrator, and NVDA.

Dealing with the License Key Dialog of Macrium Reflect, Version 7, with a Screen Reader


JAWS

JAWS users can use either the Jaws cursor, or the touch cursor, which is the Jaws equivalent of object navigation.
Using the touch cursor:
1. Starting with the next button being the focus.
2. Switch to using the touch cursor (shift + numpad plus, using the desktop layout).
3. Press either left arrow twice or shift+tab twice to move to the home radio button.
4. Press spacebar or enter to select the radio button, and move the focus to it.
5. Switch back to the pc cursor (numpad plus twice quickly, using the desktop layout).

But in the old days, Windows didn't get a full upgrade every six months.  Service packs were infrequent--perhaps two or three or four years apart.  Windows 7 only had one.  Perhaps Microsoft should look through its records of who had problems with Windows 10 upgrades through Windows 10's history.  Perhaps they can identify certain combinations of hardware and software that are prone to problems.  They then can actively attempt to recruit members of the Insider program who run such combinations.  It appears the Insider program is not working as expected.

Windows rollout problems have been with us since the last millennium.  Remember Windows 98, it crashed, right there, on stage with  Bill Gates at the helm.

This just seems to be part of windows reality.  It seems we must live with it or  leave it.  There is a choice.

What is wrong with the insider program that this problem wasn't known before the rollout?  Are there too few people in the program?  Should there be more attention to trying to get more users who use Windows in different ways and on more varied equipment?  Microsoft is developing a reputation for bad rollouts, hardly helpful for the company achieving its goals of having people accept "Windows as a service." 

 

In an article I read yesterday from a reliable source, it was stated that both this major upgrade and the one before it had serious problems.  I don't recall the details now, but I recall reading about how the previous upgrade put some users machines into infinite bootup loops.  I don't recall what other problems may have been in that upgrade.  Again, what is wrong with the insider program that this wasn't caught?

Yes Jonathan Mosen was mentioning about it this very morning. Though he says
none of his machines have had the issue. There was also so question marks
about third party anti virusses maybe blocking the back up of files when
Windows tries to move them as well.

So who is going to sue for lost data?
 The more I hear the more I'm glad I'm on windows 7, even if it won't read
dropbox dialogue boxes any more.

It may be worse than I thought.  it may be just plain neglegence. 
 
In my past writings on this subject, I've assumed that the problem in the latest major update was caused by defects in the insider program in identifying problems and the pressure of too frequent updates.  This comment in an article on the Kim Komando site raises the very real possibility that its just plain carelessness and neglegence.  This may become a major story and may result in major changes in how Microsoft handles updates. 
 
And this problem is yet another reminder to back up everything you don't want to lose.  If you don't, sooner or later, you'll lose a lot or all of your files because something is going to happen.

Perhaps more troubling are the reports stating that the bug existed even on the Windows Insider preview versions of the update. Isn't this precisely the thing beta testing is for?

Just went through this found it yesterday fought with my computer, it
is not your machine, and got ahold of audible about half an hour ago.
This fixed it for me and site downloads are once again working.

First of all log in to your audible account, then hit enter on your
name, if your using jfw it will say hi whatever your name is
collapsed, arrowing around will now show Under that arrowing you'll
see your account status, for example mine said Gold Monthly.
Continuing to arrow down you'll get to account details, enter on that.
I should note that during this process you might have to log in again
depending on your browser settings. Arrow to update settings, and
scroll down or use heading navigation of NVDA to get to something that
says software verification. Under that there's a checkbox that for you
will be unchecked it says something like check for audible download
manager, check that, and then your good to go.

I am afraid it is already here and not 3 years away at least here in the
UK

I found last night when I went to my audible Library the download
facility
now takes you to a so called “help” page which only gives the option of
using Audible iOS, Android, Echo etc and Windows 10.

There is an apparent option to use iTunes but if you follow the help on
that it states you need the Audible app installed.

As it is now imposible to download directly from the website this is
very
bad news indeed.

I tried to open a “chat”with Audible support but after stating the
problem
they did not respond at all- I waited for 30 minutes for any
acknowledgement.

So for me as of last night Audible appears inaccessible for blind
users
of Windows and also for devices like the victor Reader Stream/Trek and
Pocket Plextalk which could until last week support the playing of
Audible
books.

As I am now blocked from accessing something like 60 books that I have
paid for over the years I am not a happy customer.

Eventually covers a long period of potential time. Are they going to
cause problems for Windows 7 users and Windows 8 users while there are
still many around? This sounds like something that may be perhaps three
years away. I don't know when support for Windows 8 ends and support
for
Windows 7 is ending a little over a year from now.



Also, why assume the worst case? Why contact blindness organizations
first? Why not discuss it with Audible and see what happens. Audible
has
a good record on accessibility. If there is a problem, talking with
them
may cause it to be solved.

This is mainlya request for the developers, but I'm posting it here
hoping
someone tells me I am mistaken.
I use the Aubible website for Audio book purchases and downloads. I
conteacted Audible with a request of helping me fix an issue with the
Audible download manager.
WHile they helped me fix the issue, the woman warned me that they
would
eventually phase out the Audible download manager because of the
Audible
app for Windows 10.
As of right now, unless I am very much mistaken, NVDA nor JAWS will
work
with the Audible app for Windows 10.
I would ask that someone look into this as it may become necessary for
those of us that use the website to use the app to download books in
the
future.
The lady I talked to said she could not give me a time frame on when
they
would do away with the Audible download manager, but that they had
already
stopped updating it.
