Man, I take back what I said about having to start narrator to read the pane being annoying. Having to go in to NVDA menu, then preferences,, then settings, then speech, then change synthesizer just to read the emojis and then change it all back again is way way more steps to take. It's easier just to start Narrator then turn Narrator off afterwords.

NVDA+4 toggles speak command keys. That won't announce if you just press SHIFT and let it go, but it will announce "CONTROL+S" if you press those keys. You can also access that option from the "Keyboard" settings (NVDA+CONTROL+K to get there directly, or via the NVDA menu). In order to practise the keyboard, you can also use NVDA's "Input help" mode. Press NVDA+1 to turn Input help on. From then, you can press any key or key combination and NVDA will announce what you have pressed (including things like shift on its own) and what NVDA function it performs (if it's an NVDA keystroke). The keys won't do anything however, so if you press the WINDOWS key, NVDA will report it, but the Windows Start menu will not open. Press NVDA+1 to turn input help off again. Kind regards Quentin.

Though I have tried several SDR applications, the accessibility has generally been quite poor. In Windows, SDR Sharp is, in my view, completely unusable. HDSDR is a bit more usable, only because it has keyboard shortcuts, but I found some of the fields difficult to work with due to lack of labelling while the main UI is very graphical. I'm more hopeful about HDSDR than anything else, but it will require a good deal of work for even that program to make anything usable. As for Linux, that's off topic for here, but I have had more or less good luck with OpenWebRX in terms of accessibility though it is not suitable on other grounds for anyone who wants a wide range of frequencies. Hi Keith, If you haven't purchased anything else, you can create a new account from: https://www.nvaccess.org/my-account/ If you have purchased other things (eg training material), you will need to recover your existing account in order to retrieve those (there is no pre-requisite for the original certification exam, though ideally you'd only want one account). Hi Brian, Apologies if you've asked this before and I missed it :) The new release process is that Alpha builds come out quite regularly, every few days or sometimes several in a day, like the old "next" snapshots did. The key point about Beta releases is: "
So, if you are interested in testing the latest "bleeding edge" code which gets updated regularly, then you want the Alpha snapshots (with the usual caveat that while they usually work fine, they may not be completely stable or work in every situation - in which case please let us know, and also keep a stable build handy). If you want a more reliably stable experience but still want to test out new features before the masses, Beta should have you covered for that and you'll start to get those about 5 weeks before a new release is due (the last beta cycle was longer, being the first time we'd changed to that system). Hi, Which synthesizer are you using? If you happen to be using ones other than Espeak NG or OneCore, chances are that you won’t hear emoji descriptions… to some extent unless you are running a certain build on a certain branch. Cheers, Joseph

I covered this in various Windows 10 build podcasts: https://www.josephsl.net/tutorials I think it might be best to give you an impromptu tutorial: The emoji panel looks like a grid of emoji characters that you can arrow through. You can look for different emojis, search them, and insert one or more of these. To use this, provided that you have Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) or later (limitations apply), press Windows+period (.). Then use the arrow keys to navigate through this panel and press Enter to select and insert emojis. To close this panel, press Escape. Note that there were changes made in Version 1809 (October 2018 Update, which is put on hold at the moment). In 1709 and 1803 (April 2018 Update), you can cycle through different emoji categories by pressing Tab. In Version 1809, press Tab to go to categories, then press left or right arrow to go through different categories and press Enter on the one you wish to browse. This was done partly so that you can select skin tones for people emoji (which you can do by select "people" emoji category, press Tab, then use left or right arrows to cycle through skin tones, press Enter on the one you want, then press Tab to go through resulting emojis). Note that the above tutorial works regardless of screen readers in use. As of October 2018, the only known screen readers that'll support Windows 10 emoji panel are Narrator and NVDA (not yet for JAWS, which I'm sure Vispero will do something about in the future). There is no need for a tutorial Don. All you have to do is hit either WIN key semicolon or WIN key period and use your arrows to the emojies you want to incert then hit enter.

Password for certification Exam

Hi. I am wanting to take the NVDA certification exam. When I click on it, I am taken to a login page.
I apparently have an account, but I have forgotten my password. I have clicked on the reset password link at least three times and have never gotten a password reset email. I have checked all spam folders.
Does anyone have a suggestion for what I should do next? I tried going to the login page directly, as an old message on this group said you could create an account from there. But I didn’t find that option.
Any suggestions will be sincerely appreciated.
