you don't represent your age group. As a
person over 55 myself, I do not accept your representation.
As far as XP is concerned, the developers are still
intentionally having NVDA run in Windows Xp. Also, I don't recall messages
of people reporting bugs stating that they are using XP. It appears you
are making an unsupported assumption.

An iTunes Question
Dan Kerstetter
Hello all.
I’ve just installed the most recent iTunes update; and while it has fixed some issues, I’m still unable to read the list of albums I have. Is there some way I can remedy this situation?
Thanks in advance.

Re: NVDA Curiosity
Gene
Such questions may generate a lot of meaningless
responses. If 300 list members are not having probems. we will learn
nothing useful by having them write to the list and saying they are not having
probems. Problems need to be reported to be corrected. Nothing can
be done when people write and say they are not having problems. It doesn't
help solve the problems some people are having and such messages don't help NVDA
function better.
Gee
Over the last few days, I've noticed a lot of people pointing out issues with the latest version of NVDA. For a little perspective, how many people are not having these issues. So far, everything has worked fine for me. Is there any one else that is not having any problems with NVDA 2016.2? Chris

In all the programs I use regularly: Firefox, Thunderbird, Notepad Plus Plus, Computer, Free Make Video Converter, Soulseek, Winamp, Speak On Media Suite (java based) and ESET Anti-virus, I have noticed no difficulties. I have not had any issues with my NVDA add-ons such as Weather Plus 3.84, Winamp enhancements, Clock and probably a few I can't remember. I am using a Windows 8.1 system with 12 GB RAM 8 core processor, 1 TB hard drive with external drives, ETC.

I have no issues at all either. Everything is working okay, ESpeak NG sounds just fine, web browsing and other stuff is as great as it used to be, if not better in certain areas where NVDA has improved. Thanks.

Re: About the "Windows 10 App Essentials" add-on
Hi, 1. Alarms and Clock: confirmed, a hacky fix on its way (technical: in some cases, English version is affected due to the fact that arrow keys does not cause the looping selector item to fire UIA selection change event). 2. Twitter contents: This is screen reader dependent and ties with markup used by Twitter. This problem is caused by Twitter’s markup strategy, and I believe this was reported to Twitter not long ago. I may need to write a hack to force NVDA to announce content from child objects. Pauses is there due to presence of an unwanted Unicode character, and the optimal solution should come from Twitter. I’ll go head and build 20160603-dev version of the add-on, and please let me know if item 1 is fixed for good (after installing that version). Cheers, Joseph

Hello Joseph and all, 1. The fix that you provide in the add-on for NVDA to properly read the values in the time pickers in places such as the Alarms and Clock" app works if Windows is in english, but does not work if Windows is in another language such as bulgarian. Do you know why is it so? Can you make this fix not to be language-dependent? 2. In the official Twitter app for Windows 10, JAWS manages to read the content of the twittes, although be it with some strange pauses between each word in them. But NVDA and Narrator don't Can you make NVDA read the twittes content? I can even now read the twitt content with NVDA, but I have to use object navigation to do it. Thanks much in advance! ______

Re: [nvda\] NVDA Devils advocate
Arlene observed, "Confirmed! If you have a certain bug. Some people can or can’t confirm your bug." Yep, because the number of variables that come into play to make certain bugs exhibit themselves are mind boggling (which is often why the software maker cannot replicate an issue even if they try to do so in what should be "the same environment" as it was encountered in by the user). We have folks with various versions of Windows, all sorts of different hardware, all sorts of assistive technology beyond NVDA potentially installed, all sorts of programs in general besides NVDA installed, and the list goes on. Each and every one of those things has the potential to set things up *juuuuuust right* for you, and only you (or a very small number of people who have the same combination as you), to encounter a given bug. I often think it's a bit of a miracle that most software functions at all given the number of variables at play that the developers have no control over and may have never even had a reason to conceive of. I worry a lot. . . I worry that no matter how cynical you become it's never enough to keep up. ~ Trudy, in Jane Wagner's "Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe"

Confirmed! If you have a certain bug. Some people can or can’t confirm your bug. I had beta tested Jaws 5.0 and there were some bugs I did find. Some others did not find. Or vice versa.

Hear, hear!! Software development is not all that different in that regard than any other pursuit where repair is involved. Just like a mechanic cannot fix a car if they're unaware of a problem, or if a reported problem cannot be replicated by them, neither can a programmer do the same for a bug. This is one of the reasons I download and install the release candidates. NVDA is not a major corporation with the resources to hire a dedicated testing department that can flog the software to death. Having been a programmer, and one in an entity that can and did do that, you still will not find all potential bugs. Even with very thorough test "scripts" the general user public will always find a way to do something that no one could ever have predicted they'd do, and with results that are sometimes as unpredictable. Being a late beta tester on NVDA with the release candidates is a good idea for all users of the software. And those of you who actually use NVDA as your primary method of access can be a lot more thorough in testing just by doing what you always do than anyone creating testing scenarios could hope to be. Hi,
To be fair, how many people tested the RC before NVDA 2016.2 came out? I know that this is the first RC I've tested. If we as a group do not test the RC and note any bugs that occur, then those bugs will show up in the next version of NVDA because the developers are unaware of them. Chris
