Ease of Access, Speech Pane (under the Interaction Section) has a toggle for, "Dictate text and control your device using only your voice."

Here's the Windows 10 Speech Recognition Commands page.

The terrible state of public education has paid huge dividends in ignorance.  Huge.  We now have a country that can be told blatant lies — easily checkable, blatant lies — and I’m not talking about the covert workings of the CIA. When we have a terrorist attack, on September 11, 2001 with 19 men — 15 of them are Saudis — and five minutes later the whole country thinks they’re from Iraq — how can you have faith in the public? This is an easily checkable fact. The whole country is like the O.J. Simpson jurors.

I’m not certain but I recall reading about a product called “Dictation Bridge” which I think can support verbal commands for the PC. I also recall that it is free software but please Google it for correct details.

Hello,

Are there any tools available that will allow a user to speak commands rather than type the? For example to click a link, select a radio button, or enter text via voice-activated commands.

Audio charts

Tony Malykh

Hello,
I am wondering if there is a way to visualize time series information
as audio signal? For example the way I envision this tool is that
larger numbers would correspond to higher pitch tones and the entire
time series would be synthesized as variable-pitch sound a few seconds
long. I often need to deal with time series at work and it would be
very helpful to get the general idea of shape of the curve. Reading
the numbers one by one is not an option, since there are typically
hundreds and often thousands of them.

Does anybody know any existing tool capable of that? I am currently
thinking about writing an NVDA add-on for that, but I just want to
check if maybe something like that already exists.

Best
Tony

For this answer, I will assume you know how to use a standard save as dialog.  If not, let us know.  When you open the save as dialog, tab once and see, in the files of type combo box, what options there are.  If PDF isn't one of them, you can't save as a PDF file.  Save the file as some other format, then use another program or utility to save it as a PDF.  I don't recall if PDF is an option.

Re: SAPI-specific settings not saving when changing to another voice

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

OK What seems to be happening is this. The settings are saved when you save settings, but only for the actual voice in Sappi 5. If you use a different voice it seems like the local settings for that voice are replaced by a default. Then if you come back to the old voice once again they are set at the default. However, most of the time if you do not allow save on exit, the old voice you set will be loaded back on a restart with the parameters you set. So. Moral is, do not change the sappi 5 settings by moving the voice then allow nvda to save settings or it will overwrite the old ones.

I suppose Microsoft's Sappi drivers are the culprits here, since only one set of parameters seems to be allowed for every single voice and this cannot be altered from the nvda dialogue once its been reset. and of course that default is then rewritten to nvda if you exit the screenreader with save settings on.
I have no idea if this is fixable by nvda but I'm almost certain I encountered this in Dolphin Supernove when I used it. It had a separate dialogue where you set each individual voice as in that much like the shark different voices could be defined for menus reading etc.
Its a bit awkward when more than one system is attempting to be king of the mountain!

Yes. Mine do tend to stick between restarts, but if I change the voice for the active SAPI 4 or SAPI 5 synthesizer, speech rate and volume do not stick.

For instance, changing to SAPI 5, then using NVDA+CTRL+left to go to voice, then using NVDA+CTRL+down to change between the voices , all my settings revert to default values.

I've never understood the reason. I don't really use SAPI a lot, but I'd like those options to stick when I do.

Well think about this for a moment. You do not want to close that window using normal things so as far as I'm aware, alt/f4 closes it. If any other combination was use it might go away when its actually needed!

Re: Speaking numbers

Jonathan COHN

Hello Peter,

This should be a functionality of the voice you are using. Though I would expect you could put in a regular expression in the dictionary to find digit comma digit and remove the comma. I believe the base regular expression "\d,\d" is the regular expression that would match a single digit a comma and another single digit. In order to get this regular expression to just remove the comma, you would need to appropriately bracket the \d  and then use appropriate code in the replace field to retrieve the bracketed item. I don't know the intricacies of Python regular expressions, so I am not sure how to bracket the items and if the replace field would be \1\2 or \2\3 but I am sure somebody on this list knows.
