Re: WordPress for dummies

When I started using wordpress in 2011 I mastered the php editing I had to do for my themes with a little help from google. I would save my edits or book marked pages with the code blocks I needed to edit and apply them to every install of wp. It was and is quite easy to use. All you do is install plugins, activate them and you pretty much have a website going in about n hour, 2 hours, depends. But if you google the wordpress codecs you will get a indepth manual on how to run self hosted sites. It's well worth the read.

Re: Windows 10 App Essentials 18.11.1 #addonrelease

Hi

it depends if you are using the add on updator  or if it is just from the add on.

Really all you have to do is when it says there is a update just say yes to it it then will get it download it then a message will come up again saying like ready to install or some ting. Just say yes to that it will then update it I can not remember if you say yes again to restart nvda and that is it.

It is a similar idea with the add on updator been trialed out. it will tell you there is a update for it  just say yes to it it then will download it and then it will want you to do the same sort of thing. I think it was yes to the message same sort of idea as the old way of doing it.

Except the add on updator can do what ever add ons you have installed as long as they are on the main add on page.

Look at screen review commands.
If you are using the User Guide, read or look through 5.5. Reviewing Text.

Near the beginning, you will see commands discussed such as numpad 8 for having NVDA speak the current line and you are told that pressing such keys three times causes the item to be spelled phonetically, in this case, the entire line.  To have a word spelled phonetically, its numpad 5 three times.  Character is numpad 2.

Hello Jean,
Thank you for responding to my email. When trying to find out how to turn on phonetic spelling, I did searches of both the Quick Commands and User Guide for the term “phonetic” and got an error indicating that the word could not be found. Is there another term I should have looked for?
I agree about using a regular versus an laptop layout.

If you look at the quick keys reference, you will see that the information is organized as a table, with the desktop command and the other ways of issuing the command, such as the laptop layout command, given.  Did you turn the laptop layout on?  I really dislike the laptop layout.  You may disagree but if I had a laptop without a numpad, I would buy a USB numpad and use the desktop layout.

Thanks for the info, Jean. I went through the users’ guide and the quick reference documents and didn’t find anything specifically about activating phonetic spelling. Is there a way to do this from a laptop without using a numpad? Where can I find this info in the NVDA documentation?
Thanks,

John, are you using the new Wordpress editor? That has a nasty toolbar that's a female dog to get out of. Try pressing Shift plus Tab until you eventually reach the title, then Space plus NVDA to get back into browse mode, and you should be goode to go. I hope that helps.

This can be turned off if you know the make and model of the video card.these days, I don't think it impacts your use of nvda. Some Dell models use the function keys for Hardware functions. Personally, I find this very irritating.they do not have a utility that allows you to change this Behavior inside of Windows. You will have to get cited assistance to go into the BIOS and turn it off yourself, so that the operating system can have access to the function keys directly for software functions.

Believe It or Not, plugging in headphones can also be a bit tweaky. Dell likes to use combo Jacks, and a software will come up and ask what you want to use the jack for every time to plug in earphones.

I would rather have a Lenovo or an Asus myself, but there seems to be a lot of cheap Off Lease Dell Hardware around.    I just bought a refurbished Dell core i7 2.7 gigahertz, 8 gig RAM, and 250 gig SSD, for $400.it wouldn't have been my first choice, but I'm willing to live with Mike works for a computer of that Speck at that price.

Hard to say. The biggest thing to check is if its a laptop does it have all the keys you need without training as a concert pianist, and does the sound system in it work with nvda without clipping of the start of words etc.
There is the vexed question of what the f keys do by default. That really depends if you can get sighted help to tweak the bios or not. I do not think one can just say a particular make is OK or not, it comes down to individual models and installed hardware and drivers most of the time.
