NVDA with Spybot and Mozilla Continued
David Russell
Hello Group,
Brian, thanks for the input and things to think about per Spybot, Mozilla, WaterFox and the like. I don't mind passwords being destroyed by Spybot as I have them noted on a hard copy pad that only I can read. I just don't know how reliable Microsoft Security Essentials is or was. Avast is to 'damn' difficult to install and as said, my history with AVG wasn't user-friendly at update time. The problem with the new FireFox versions is it throws off the way I am used to navigating email and social media. I rely on both! Google is searchable but just odd to navigate with new versions of FF. I will look at WaterFox and decide. Meantime, if you or anyone has an easy-to-install anti-virus program recommend, let me/us know. I prefer free of charge.. Thanks. -- David Russell david.sonofhashem@gmail.com

Re: Eloquence with Lates Version of NVDA

I'm a little confused. It sounds like there are at least two versions of Eloquence. Are you saying that it is only the illegal one that is SAPI? Is the Code Factory ad-on the only legal one?

Re: Eloquence with Lates Version of NVDA
Gene
It's not a Windows Voice. it is, in one paid
version, a SAPI 5 voice. SAPI has nothing to do with whether something is
a Windows voice. SAPI is a Windows program interface that allows
synthesizers to communicate with Windows. The legal add-on is not
SAPI. As I said, there is a SAPI 5 version. You should try both as
demos if you are trying to decide which you want. The legal add-on has
lots of really annoying artifacts and, in my opinion, should either be fixed or
withdrawn. And the NVDA page about voices still doesn't caution users
about this problem. Nor does it tell users that a SAPI 5 version is
available that doesn't have this problem. This information should be on
the site and users should be advised to try demos of both before making a
purchase. I've written about this before and the page hasn't contained
this information and discussion for years. This is a real disservice to
users and it should be corrected yesterday.

Hi, I think this would be best suited for add-ons list, but the solution involves studying what’s called “text infos” – a routine used to work with text content. Cheers, Joseph

I tried down arrowing and pressing control very quickly after down arrowing. That causes no speech to sound. If you can have the add on activate control after every down arrow but not on the last one if you want that to be read, that should solve the problem. I don't know if there is another solution on a more technical level but as a user without technical knowledge of the internal operation, that is what I found.

We are working on an add-on which allows us to move multiple objects of same type in one go. For e.g, I want to jump 3 lines in a document. We are calling script_review_nextLine() function three times. Here, we are facing an issue, NVDA reads out all the three lines, instead of just reading the third line. May be he is putting all the lines content in queue. Any suggestions, how we can fix it.

I've never seen anybody mainstream usin teamtalk. It seems like only blind people use it, sadly. It's a great program even though it is not simple to set up. As for what you can do to make this new version a bit easier to use, there's very little you can do. I would at least turn auto answering calls on. Below are the steps. The privacy issue is outweighed by the amount of time it takes for users to answer a call manually.

Hello!

It depends on the synth you are using... The Eloquence SAPI5 works alright, since it is a Windows synth and not a NVDA dedicated synth... The Eloquence addon from CodeFactory also works... The ilegal ones, some work, others maybe not... But, it is not the place to discuss those... Rui Fontes Às 14:30 de 13/11/2018, kelby carlson escreveu:

There was a discussion some time ago about what would happen to older synthesizers when NVDA began using the newest version of Python, and a few people were expressing concerns that Eloquence and other synthesizers would no longer function correctly.

Eloquence with Lates Version of NVDA
kelby carlson
Does the latest version of NVDA still support the eloquence
synthesizer in any form? I am about to put it on my work computer. I have not updated my NVDA beyond 2018.3, because I have heard that Eloquence will no longer work, and it is the only non-iOS synthesizer I am really comfortable with. -- Kelby Carlson

Has anyone else had quick navigation keys stop working after installing Microsoft Office?
John J. Boyer
They were working until I did that installation. I have a laptop computer. The vendor configured it before giving it to
me. The quick navigation keys have never worked. They are trying to figure out what they might have done that caused this problem. Once I know that, I might be able to write a NVDA add-on to correct it. Thanks, John -- John J. Re: ccleaner new release
I love this file! I wish Bleachbit was accessible. It's an open source alternative. It's not accessible to NVDA at all, but if any developers want to look at the code or otherwise, the github page is below. I have not tried asking about accessibility yet. Below is in markdown, for all you text email readers. Not sure it will render. Documentation on compiling, adding cleaners I still like Puran Utilities though, even though it has not been updated in ages.

Well, not sure about the latter as I subscribe to the mail list for issues and this allows email to be used to comment on tickets on github. I do find, even with modern browsers, a little like a system over engineered for many tasks that in the end fills with clutter the user is not going to need and clever little non standard bits.

However getting back on topic. yes you can stop Firefox from updating, but I suppose you then leave yourself open to breaches. If you have a 64 bit machine then Waterfox is quite good. I still find, even on windows 7 that the new Firefox versions crash more and do not provide good audio feedback of when pages are loaded etc. Brian bglists@blueyonder.co.uk Sent via blueyonder. The usual reason is security,There are much more reasons why proxy servers are used, but thats not the point. So, I'm not aware that anything out there allows you to do what you want.Tecnicaly it should be no problem because other software is also able to use the proxy to check for upgrades and install them. As long as only http or https is used for the checks and downloads, the proxy should no problem. Maybe the system admins can arrange a pass through or maybe they canmonitor the sites for the add ons etc you want. This is the last step to perform and in some environments this will be inpossible due to security policies, e.g. By all means raise an issue on Github, but I'm not sure how the devsThanks for the hint with Github, I will create a request. Why are you not happy with the Microsoft solution?
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I'm assuming that, like myself you have Windows 7. One thing is for sure, nothing will stop you getting infected 100 percent. Its all a trade off, Much can be done by being wary what you click on or open and hence no matter how good a solution is, they will all have issues of either being too invasive, slowing down the machine or not spotting things. There is no magic bullet even if you pay. Brian bglists@blueyonder.co.uk Sent via blueyonder. Re: NVDA with Spybot and Mozilla
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
I've not used it in some time, mainly due to its over invasive tendencies, some of which you have found. I do remember its supposed to be configurable to avoid passwords, but I never found an accessible way to achieve this.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Does it perhaps use a .ini file? As for anti virus, well its not really an anti virus program, but to some extent it used to highlight things like route kits and such installed by Trojans. Once again though, I found that it was hit and miss, and often getting rid of what it considered to be malware, could trash the machine. I'll leave it up to others to comment further, but I just found it rather tiresome and went over to Superantispyware, which although not that easy to use, seems to be more reliable and does not remove passwords but does remove cookies associated with tracking, however other problems with it are things like unwanted browser extensions, like the Ask toolbar, which it says I have on one machine but I do not see it, but even if I wanted it to be removed the checkbox to remove it is not accessible.
