Hi Group,

I also have the same results as Clare with my Windows 10 18.09 system.  I haven't used the Dropbox add on for years and I have no issues.  I wonder if the report dynamic changes and/or tool tips reporting under NVDA settings is the issue for some people.

Do you have the Dropbox AddOn for NVDA activated? With Windows10 Dropbox tells me when files are received here at my end. However what I’m finding is even though Dropbox is set to start up upon Windows, I need to open the dropbox folder for Dropbox to open up and start working. I went into MsConfig, where everything seems to be alright.

As long as you press enter on the link (and not the bullet beside it),
you should be moved to that section. That doesn't work in Edge.
Switch to another browser and you should be fine.
Alternatively, navigate by headings until you find the part of the user
guide you want.

that’s not all.  I can see that the screen changes but NVDA continues
reading the table of contents.  I printed out the entire user guide and
put it under my CCTV reader but that takes a lot of time.  I have tried
the NVDA key + numpad keys and I can move to the desk top and back to
the table of contents but I haven’t figured out how to move to the page

I'm not sure what is causing the problem.  Which browser are you using?  It sounds, from what you describe, that the browser is moving to where it should be but the NVDA browse mode buffer isn't updated.

One way to work around the probem is the following:
Move to the item in the table of contents you want to read.
Select the title of the item, you can select the whole line, which includes its number in the outline, and copy it to the clipboard.
For example:
4.1. Launching NVDA
Open the NVDA find dialog, used when in browse mode.  The command is insert control f.  You can use either insert.
Paste the line into the search field and press enter.  You should be moved to that part of the guide.
You can save the guide in whatever formats your browser offers and use find in whatever you are using to read the document in the same way.

Hi Max. If you not aware already I’d learn using your NVDA hotkeys for browsing on the web. If you are also a JAWS user H for switching to different headings is one key to get you started. Now you should be able to press enter on the links within the user manual. I’ve done this successfully with Edge and Firefox. Try that out and let me know how it goes.

Hi all,

Important notice for users of StationPlaylist Studio and Windows 10 App Essentials add-ons: originally, I planned to release version 18.12 next week that’ll ship with compatibility flags with future NVDA releases. However, given the speed of development of internal changes to NVDA that deals with compatibility flags, I’m releasing emergency compatibility patches for these add-ons as follows:

  • StationPlaylist Studio: version 18.11.2A for stable, 18.09.5A-LTS for long-term channel subscribers
  • Windows 10 App Essentials: 18.11.2A stable

These emergency patches are designed specifically for people using NVDA alpha snapshots who might be using stable add-on releases, and you can check for updates in about an hour from now. Note that for those using development versions of these add-ons, the needed compatibility flags are already present, so no need to worry.

Special note for SPL Studio long-term channel users: it turns out version 18.09.5-LTS was never released (it shows up as released but you couldn’t download the installer). I’ll be fixing this as part of today’s release.

Cheers,

Joseph

It's interesting that you have this acdcessibility problem with Dropbox,
Brian, as I am still on Windows 7 here, and I can still read the Dropbox
preferences, keep track of uploads and downloads in the system tray, and I
still get help balloons to tell me a download has finished: I don't get told
that an upload is finished, but I know it has when the Dropbox icon in the
system tray includes the words "up to date".
Since you can't read the preferences yourself, I think you should get
sighted help to go through the dialogues there to see if changing some of
the settings will bring more accessibility back for you. I hope this helps!
Bye for now!
From Clare

Hi I'm not quite sure when this started to occur, but somewhere along the
line Dropbox does not seem to push out any kind of alert when files are
coming in or indeed indicate when they are being uploaded on the tray icon.
Are these preferenc choices which have been changed recently from the
default of on it used to have? Obviously since I cannot use the preferences
box, the share dialogue or other similar windows on windows 7 it seems, I
cannot check but if it can be toggled on again, then I'll get a sighted
person in to do it.
Its rather irritating as it seems the person using it at our studio does
not know when its completed uploading and I do not know when its stopped
coming in at my end.

Cheers,

Joseph

When you say reformatted. Do you really mean that or a reinstall of windows over the top of itself?
Most of the problems I've seen like this have been due to a kind of remaining bit of the parameters of some software being there, but windows or nvda getting confused what its doing. Oftn if it is only nvda which is the issue, you can weed out all the occurrences of nvda and install clean and start again. If other things are affected then stuff can get more complicated. So it might still be that the reason you cannot action the items you say is purely due to nvda not being in a good state. I assume this is the latest Windows 10? If so then try using narrator for making things work like anti virus and firewall, however I'd be a bit worried why, after a reinstall all of this was not on by default.

Hi good people:
Please I am having problems with my NVDA screen reader. I started
having these problems after a reformatting of my laptop computer a few
days ago.
The first problem is that I cannot change the keyboard layout from
desktop to laptop. When I activate the laptop option, it does not
change from desk top to laptop. I don't understand why this is
happening. I in fact re-installed the program, but the problem has
persisted.
The problem is peculiar with NVDA, because I don't have these problems
with JAWS. Please is there a fix for these problems.
I also want to find out how I can turn on windows defender, or windows
firewall. When I attempted turning on windows defender, by typing
defender in to the search box, and windows defender coming up, I am
unable to pull down the file menu to go to tools, in order to do the
turn on. I even tried using the application key, all to no avail.
Hope to read a response.
From Ibrahim.

Subject: [nvda] Issues using Flash Based Voicemail Website

I'm working with a volunteer who is blind to access an online voicemail system through my.jive.com. The website uses flash software and we're able to access the names of the voicemails using NVDA, but we're not able to click on the links to listen to them.

We're using a HP Pavilion Notebook PC with Windows 10 Home Version 1803.

Does anyone have experience with my.jive.com through Jive Communications?
Has anyone resolved issues when issue flash on a website?

Thanks for your help!

Re: NVDA not read anything in any browser.

Hi

Were you able to sort it out with nothing been spoken in all the browsers?

Out of curiosity did you ever install a plug in for nvda called I think it was called 7. Reading Mathematical Content
Using MathPlayer 4 from Design Science, NVDA can read and interactively navigate supported mathematical content. This requires that MathPlayer 4 is installed on the computer. MathPlayer is available as a free download from:

This was from the user guide. did you ever install it then uninstall it? there used to be a bug or it still may be there when you uninstall it it will cause that type of problem in the browser. If this is the case and you had installed it then removed it and then it had problems with the browser you may need to reinstall it again. If you never installed it do not worry about it.

Did you also do a complete uninstall of nvda? You will need to do it under program features remove nvda there then do the following You may need another screen reader to do it

Press the windows key + letter R then type in %appdata% then press the enter key. A whole list of folders will come up locate the folder called nvda then delete it then use the alt key + f4 key to close this screen.

Then you can reinstall nvda again make sure it is a fresh copy and not one that may of been curupted. Hopefully that might fix it.

By the way are you running a 32 or 64 bit operating system and which

I was wondering if maybe it might of been the mathshtml add on that might of
caused it or when you uninstalled say office?

have a look under the tools section in NVDA and look for a menu called Run
COM Registration Fixing tool... then press the enter key on it. I can not
remember if there were steps after it but it should reset the files and i
think the computer also has to be rebooted as well.

If it fixes the problem you should be able to use the browser as you were
before it happened.

Some times it would also affect the running application on the task bar and
say unknown etc and do some other weird stuff.

There is no documentation for it in the user manual but I think there
should
be so people know what it is for.

Re: Switch from Desktop mode laptop mode

The person didn't say anything about not being able to use capslock.  The person evidently doesn't know about it.  It isn't on by default.  you have to go into the keyboard layout and turn on this option.  I don't use current versions of NVDA so I won't explain how this is done, since the interface has changed and the method may not be the same.

How come you cannot use your caps lock, because that is what I always use?

Hi all, this is Michael. I have a question about switching from Desktop layout to Laptop layout on a Laptop.

Few weeks ago I got a shiny new computer from School. That Computer have both Jaws and NVDA installed in it.

After I'm done setup Jaws the Way I liked I proceed to NVDA.

I forgot that I have NVDA desktop Keyboard layout set as default. I went ahead and press Ok on do not show  welcome screen when I start NVDA then I pressed  the ok button.

I'm using an HP Laptop.

Caps lock key  is not available for me.

Where is the insert key on a Laptop?

All feedback  and answers are greatly

 appreciated

Thanks

Re: Switch from Desktop mode laptop mode

Hi

Are you saying there is no caps lock key or it just was not checked to use it?

Usually on a keyboard the insert key is above the arrow key there is a 6 pack of keys there and on this one it is the top left one..

also on a numeric key pad it is the zero on it.

You could try one of the following with the number 1 key on the keyboard which would be insert key + 1 this would turn on input help and then you could locate the other insert key or caps lock key then turn it off.

Then use the following nvda key + ctrl key + the letter K for keyboard a menu should come up then tab down to then from there you can pick your keyboard layout and under neath it in my case i have checked all 3 boxes for the modifier key you will need to arrow down to do this and check them with space bar.

hopefully it get you up and running and if happy save your settings.
